- If you want a learn a bit and have a laugh at the same time - have a listen to Pat Farrell here talking to me about the dresser in the home his late uncles Joe and Aidan Farrell, two bachelor brothers from near Kilrush in North Wexford.
This was my first time meeting Pat and although we’d spoke on the phone, I knew I was going to enjoy meeting him. I love his direct nature and there are no airs aor graces with him, straight up and great craic too.
The kitchen in which he is standing hasn’t changed much in the past 100 years and contains a lot of the original features that were made by Pat’s grandfather, Pat Farrell. Pat snr. died in 1953 and he thinks everything was made by him around 1900-1910. Pat is on the ball with family history too and has a brilliant turn of phrase and great humour.
He now uses the house as an extension of the farm yard and as he says himself, he should “gave it a clean for me” but to be honest - that’s what I like about it in this instance. A few hours work would clean and tidy it out and fairs dues to Pat for keeping the things in it and not getting rid of them. Love how he ends the clip with me. Again no airs or graces, take it as you find it and he doesn’t care less if I like it.
This clip has it all; history, heritage, storytelling and humour.
