Great job, congrats, fun to watch! The allusion to 'Goldeneye' (45:48) made me laugh. I'd play with my buddies all the time and can confirm we did constantly look at each other's quadrants in order to gain an advantage. Good times. :)
Man, I got way more in to this than any other sporting event in recent history. It had its ups, it had its downs. Two of my favorite Mario Maker streamers were on the same team.

This level is based on one of his existing ones, apparently, but Cliffy asked him to make a few tweaks so its true nature wouldn't be quite as obvious. I fell for it, too, but read comments here and on Carl's vid explaining it.

Regarding the hardest level, GoSeigen is the designer. Look up Super Seigen's Magnum Opus, it's insane. From start (building) to finish (successfully uploading), he spent over 700 HOURS on it altogether!

After the second checkpoint on GlitchCat’s Level, I did everything wrong. Abused that “made for SGDQ level design” Also, no way I could pull off a midair at the end, so just threw the shell in the air and spin jumped off. Fun level!

Already said this on Carl's video, but all of you deserve credit for it: Way to go with trolling 150,000 people live with that last so-called hard level! That was the best laugh I've had watching a GDQ since those fake Tasbot runs!
Please get someone on the couch with good knowledge of the game next time! So many cool things could have been said about the tech being used or the way the levels were built, but instead we got generic interchangeable comments the whole time. Everything else was on point though, super cool race, really entertaining!
Edit: the hard levels showcase was reaaally cool too! These are exactly the kind of insightful comments the actual race could have benefited from!

Excellent performance all around, GG. The levels were great too, and the hard levels showcase in particular was some of the best content I've seen come out of this years event so far (can't believe you didn't let the crowd in on the joke at the end, I wonder how many walked away believing he just one-shot a kaizo level blindfolded).
Thaaaaat being said, as a bit of constructive criticism I really, really don't like this race format. I understand the intention behind it, previous formats had issues with one team pulling ahead by a level or two and then staying that far ahead forever, but it really trivializes 90% of the event. The advantage gained from winning levels is negligible, if one team completely destroyed the other and took an eight level sweep they'd only have a 40 second lead which while substantial in terms of knowledge wouldn't have been enough of an advantage to change the outcome here (mathematically, even if team jebaited's last run would've cleared they still couldn't have caught up to the monster that is Carl even accounting for the extra 30 second delay in start times). So you fixed the old problem but introduced a new problem, instead of the final level having no tension there is now no tension until the final level with everything else being filler (albeit entertaining filler, to be fair). That also creates a competitive imbalance, these races are built to test a variety of skillsets but if one player just happens to be best suited to the final level, which is exactly what happened here, then they'll be handed the win more often than not.
It's great to see SMM back at a GDQ and I'll take anything I can get but if you do get to do this again in the future it would be nice to see more refinement. I don't know what the solution is, maybe having the time advantage apply to every level, building in clearly labelled shortcuts into levels that can only be used if you have a certain number of wins (with the commentators doubling as refs and illegal shortcut use requiring a start over on the entire level) or even just going back to the old "play through all levels in one segment" format with levels that are more conducive to it. And if you read this I hope you take it as a fan just trying to make an already great event better.
I get what you're saying & agree it's good to be innovative, always improving. This isn't a tournament, though, it's a charity event. As you noted, it was entertaining! That's probably going to appeal more to casual viewers (as potential donors), rather than dramatic tension. Could be wrong, but I'm guessing that is at least part of their general philosophy.
It was entertaining, but personally more for the personalities involved and the level designs. The actual "who will win, what's going to happen?" aspect of the race wasn't entertaining until the final level, which is why I think it's a problem worth addressing. Obviously not everyone is going to feel the same way but there's no real cost to tinkering with the rules and I think a happy medium can be reached which will be ideal for the maximum number of people. "Meh, good enough" just isn't a satisfying answer.

Eh. It's a charity event. Plus, I've seen Mario Maker levels that are considered "complete" even when the finish time is a few tenths of a second past zero. Maybe the same rules apply, you never know!
you could argue without looking at the start and end times that the timer guy could have started early by 7/10th to even it out
