This run beats the former World Record by 35 seconds and finally breaks the 1:03:xx barrier! The run is finally starting to look somewhat optimized! We had an incredible late game with several amazing fights, though we ended up with a pretty sub-par Devil fight with plenty of room for improvement. Grim Matchstick and Rugged Ridge both also had a handful of mistakes, plus we lost ~10 seconds early on in King's Leap. A 1:02:xx time is finally starting to look possible for this category, so maybe that will be my next major project in this game...
Some commonly asked questions:
Q: How are you able to play on Expert without beating the game first?
A: Speedrunners use something called the "Fresh Expert" glitch for Expert mode categories. Basically, if you have a save file where you've already beaten the game, you access that first and select a boss. On the difficulty select, you put the cursor over "Expert" (no need to actually fight the boss), and then back out and Exit to Title. When you start a new file you will begin the game on Expert.
Q: Why do you fight all of the King Dice minibosses?
A: While they technically don't contribute to file percentage, we decided in the speedrunning community to include them in the 300% category since it fills out the Checklist in the menu. That's also the same reason we require buying all the weapons/charms despite them not contributing to file percentage either; it's just nice looking from a completionist perspective!

You actually made this game look so good, I bought it expecting to have fun. I didn’t pass run and gun tonight after 20 tries. I’m pissed and respect you.
It's actually normal to spend way too much time on any level. The Root Pack is much easier than the first run and gun, I hate those levels in Cuphead. I needed way more than 20 attempts to pass that 1st level but now I completed it 300% and I am on a personal challenge to beat it without dying once. Not even close from monstruous players like Jason but it is a challenge for me !
The point is, you gotta keep trying and you will always succeed eventually !
But maybe tryhard games are just not your type ^^

Idk if you plan on improving your world record anytime soon, but I heard with Funhouse Frazzle, you can just walk through the wall's mouths without doing anything and it'll die. I even saw it before since its required to get the black and white filter in the overworld
Hello, yes, I know of that trick. However, it’s randomized which mouth will open up so I get better times on average by just destroying the wall instead of waiting for a mouth to open up.
On versions 1.1 and earlier you could actually clip through the mouths before they even opened, but unfortunately it’s patched on later versions of the game so it’s not possible for this category anymore.
@@Jason2890 Ah I didn't know that first detail. Knew about the clip though. I just assumed it worked for both mouths because of the no defeating enemies challenge in run and guns which included the walls
so much time left through this run I really think a sub 1 hour is possible and will happen soon

what controller do you use? i play with the switch pro controller but the d-pad and the shoulder buttons are kind of imprecise sometimes, so i would like to try something new :D
I use a USB SNES controller for Cuphead. Specifically, it’s a brand called iBuffalo, but unfortunately they don’t make them new anymore so they’re incredibly difficult to find. I’ve tried similar brands but the d-pad doesn’t feel as accurate as the iBuffalo ones, so unfortunately I can’t recommend an alternative to you.

Dpad allows you to be more accurate, so that would be my vote.

Her base plane weapons output slightly more DPS, yes. But the EXs are situational. Cuphead/Mugman do more damage with missile EXs on bosses with wider hitboxes compared to Chalice’s EXs.

Are there any tips you can give us who want to start speedrunning 300%??
Hmm, I would probably recommend learning the route first (probably from watching this video!) and then go through the run without necessarily “speedrunning” it. But just to get accustomed to the weapon combos, the route, the cursed relic fights, etc. if there are any fights you struggle with way more than others, make sure to practice those parts of the run a LOT until you feel confident about it. Then string it all together in a full run once you feel familiar enough with the route and weapon combos and then see how it goes!

what does the 684 mean i’m new to cup head speedrun
Whenever I get the hints for the graveyard puzzle I convert the solution into a 3 digit number that corresponds to the digits on a number pad.
In the case of this speedrun, the graveyard puzzle solution was right, up, left. So compare it to a number pad similar to below:
7 8 9
4 5 6
1 2 3
On a number pad the numbers 6, 8, and then 4 convert to the middle row right, top row middle, and middle row left. So it’s just an easier way for me to remember the puzzle solution by the time I get to that part of the DLC isle.
