My Chrono Trigger speedrun with Essentia from Games Done Quick's 2015 summer charity marathon (which raised over $1,200,000 for Doctors Without Borders)! The run was co-op (we took turns playing) and 100% (all sidequests defined by the Guru of Time).
Really happy with how this run went! A few mistakes here and there with the RNG manipulation, but we both played very well overall (beat our RPG Limit Break run by 8 minutes) and the commentary was top-notch. Shoutouts to our awesome couch crew Raelcun (left) and AlecK47 (right), and Vulajin (offscreen) on the host mic.

Still got goosebumps when Glenn pulls Masamune out of the ground after he gets his balls back. So many great moments, truly one of the best games ever made.
CT encapsulated any lesson a kid needed growing up. If you grew up playing good rpg's, you probly grew up too smart for your own good. They're like a great novel and a life guide, all in one.

Chrono trigger is all time best game I've ever played. The story line is so overwhelming and great sound.

fun fact, defeating lavos at ocean palace gives the same result as beating him at the teleporter in NG+, so the developer ending can be your first ending granted you can beat lavos so early on

I've thought about trying to do this. It's a lot of grinding though. Being able to kill Golem when you first encounter him is bad enough lol.

Please someone help me. I'm playing this game for the first time and get stuck. Right after 3:41:21 Crono was killed and I dont know what to do. I didnt get Mayus, and I'm Lost... sad because I dont have Crono and I like to play with him. I dont know what to do with the Chrono Trigger... please someone help me

I've never played this on snes but I have beaten the drinking game using an iPhone, psx, ps2, Nintendo DS, and keyboard while using an emulator.

Saves sooooooo many frames skipping gato. I play lots of action games which is probably why I can do this. Street fighter, megaman, asuras wrath, etc. so I'm used to mashing.
I just found it interesting they can't beat it. But it makes sense if you speed run games that don't have much mashing involved. It'd be shocking if they spedrunned megaman X and couldn't.

Where the hell do these people get the money for $5k donations to speed running charities! That's what I wanna know, they're doing something right. Awesome run but it kinda makes me sad seeing one of my fav games just absolutely broken haha.
I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people conduct events to raise money themselves just so they can donate it here. Not only are you raising money for charity that way but you're also promoting a great event so it can continue to raise money also. Plus some people are probably just super well off and don't need the money, :P
+ParadigmZwei I never thought of mini-charities to donate but that makes sense. Yeah, I guess money is all about perspective haha. Good on them though, if I had the money to spare I'd donate.
Sometimes game developers give money, they've usually got it lying around, and other times people want to give to charity and decide this is as good a way as any
One of the top overall donors is Markus Person, who has lots of money because he started Minecraft and profited off its massive sales.

Except you can literally read the katakana and derive the pronunciation from that. While katakana has limitations and changes made (Schala for example is Sara in JP version), Marle is Ma--ru which is in no way Marlee. And Crono? It's a play off of Chrono Trigger. You know, the word that corresponds to time-related stuff that is definitely pronounced Croh-noh?
But no for sure because there's no voice acting that means words and languages don't exist and we can't deduce proper pronunciations, right?

I'm glad the Demon Chocobo thing didn't win the day. Honestly, that shit is seriously getting old. It kinda makes FFVI runs impossible for me to watch because the bid war alone is always so annoyingly distracting.
It brings in money for a good cause, I could say the same about the super metroid animals, but that keeps going on because it brings in a lot of money.

I love speed running videos but skipping everything doesn't make sense to me especially when later on in the game you need to be high level to defeat the harder bosses
and yet they still beat the game, if you notice.
if anything skipping makes it MORE impressive, as they have to figure out ways to beat bosses even when severely under-leveled.
speedrunning a game is WAY harder then a "real" playthrough and takes far more knowledge about the game.
and saying they skip everything is a gross exaggeration. this was still a 5+ hour run.
Jason Cummings you obviously don't need to be a higher level later on to beat the bosses. The point of skipping things is to go as fast as possible. I understand if you don't care about that but they do. That's how speedrunning works

Is it just me or does this runner say "I'm bad at _______" a lot in this... seems like if you are a speed runner you would get good at the tricks/hacks/glitches/RNG movement that makes the run shorter rather than just saying you are bad at it.

It's not playing the game the way it was intended to. Going through all the boss fights and all.
Uchiha Madara Well it depends on how you define the game was meant to be played, some players accidentally discover skips and think that's how the game was meant to be played. Besides, if you are a player who's played this game multiple times and love it but are bored, it would be cool to see the absolute limits of a game and watch them be broken to a point where some content it's unrecognizable.
That's why there are categories of speed runs.
