  • We're now on the longest stage of a 7-day stage race in the country of Georgia with Racing the Planet where we're running 250 km while carrying all of our food and supplies for the week on our backs. The first four days of the race were just a wam-up for today.

Wow, really cool decision that Florian stayed with you through that long stage and you got to chat a bit. I really admire his attitude towards running and racing, it's really rare to encounter a top athlete who is not focused on winning and giving 100% at all times. It's a pity that the weather conditions forced you to take a shorter route, but nontheless the scenery was stunning!

This is just outstanding. Too much greatness to list but I loved the "I'm not chasing records, I'm here to enjoy life" and also "There was a point I didn't think I was going to make it, but here I am". When people ask my why I run ultras and I do so much training I have my canned answer but really it comes down to the solitude. I work all day with people, grocery shop: people, people everywhere. I have kids, a wife, extended family....people! I love my kids and my wife and all the people, but DAMN that training in the hills where I don't see another human being for 3 hours, it's indescribable what that does for me. Being an introvert I recharge mentally on those long runs and races. I couldn't love being alone in those moments more. I have also come to appreciate running in the mountains with friends too though so I can totally appreciate where Florian was coming from. Last thing I will say on this is what else is interesting is how in a race you will make all sorts of "friends". On long 50M races I have made best friends with 75 year old women, 18 year old guys and everything in between. Every race it seems you pass that one person a few times, they pass you a few times and then before you know it you are racing buddies for the next 20-30K. It's a crazy world runners live in. Their question was valid though.....how do you make it look so easy:) This video is amazing and rejuvenates my excitement for the human race:)

Excellent episode Jeff! Would be really interested in a follow-up with Florian for a more detailed breakdown of his pack and the how's and why's of what he picked since it looks so small! I'm always interested in ways to optimize gear especially for long self sustaining efforts such as these.

Could not agree more! Super curious about Florian’s pack especially after seen the care you put in organising yours in the most efficient way Jeff. His looks like the pack I carry for a 50miler in the Alps 😂

I'm simply in love with that community you are showing in every episode... Said it before, saying it again: How is everything this nice and inspiring! I'm so excited for the weather to get warmer here in Germany. Started running again after a long time last September, but had to pause end of October due to knee pain. Since then, I already got down the extra Christmas-weight and did a lot of exercises to strengthen my feet and knee for upcoming runs.
Your videos definitely inspire to go running, can't wait to start over again and meet with like-mind people like the ones in your films. Oh, and cannot wait for the finale of this series. Cheers! 🤓

Superb. Looked like smooth sailing (despite the miles) from start to finish. Nice to meet Florian. He’s got a great outlook on all of this. I’m really loving this landscape. Georgia doesn’t get a lot of… or enough love, I should say, on the global stage.

This video really put the biggest smile on my face. I've been so frustrated with myself lately for not being able to sustain the running volume I feel like I should be able to. But I keep showing signs of overreaching and thus have to modify my training plan to not hurt myself. I really want to get good (sooner rather than later...), but I'm pushing myself too hard. This video reminded me that running isn't a "race" (no pun indented lol). It's about the journey, the adventure, the community. All of you have been running for years, I don't need to be able to bust out a 60k in a few months after only running for the last 6 months lol. I'll get to your level in my own time. :3

Amazing! These races are very inspirational. I admire the grit that you and the other runners have to accomplish a race like this. A 50k is the furthest I've run, and that was a daunting race for me. I appreciate your videos. They keep me motivated to continue my training.
I'm running a few crazy races this year that you'd probably consider a warm up run. The RUT 28k at Big Sky, MT. Also the HURL Elkhorn 50k race in Clancy, MT.

I cannot tell you how much your videos and this series in particular are giving to me in drive and inspiration, Jeff. I am just a half Marathon guy but I enjoy every km I run either in my 'big' city of Budapest, Hungary, or out in the countryside in the warmer seasons. Thank you for that. One more question, if you allow. I may have missed this info but did you have a support crew taking the drone shots and the rest of the non-selfie stick footage? What an amazing adventure, I absolutely fell in love with Georgia through you videos, thanks again!
