Several years at the The North Face (50-mile Champs) in San Fransicso (now defunct) probably had some of the most competitive depth of any ultra on American soil still imo. You'd basically get most of the top 10 from Western States (including multiple WS100 champions), plus a bunch of sub 2:20 marathoner guys and faster 50km guys, plus some of the best Euro guys (Francois etc) all in one runnable 50-mile course with 10k of climbing near sea level at the end of the year gunning for $10,000 for the win. There were no other big races in December so basically everyone would do it. Heck the year I won (2014) we had Zach Miller, Rob Krar, Max King, Tim Tollefson, David Laney, Dakota Jones, Alex Varner, Tim Olson, Dylan Bowman, Mike Foote, Mike Aish, Dan Kraft plus some top Euro guys (to name a few). On other years (circa 2015-2016) you had Zach and Hayden dueling it out etc. In my mind "competitive depth" of a race is easy to calculate: Just compare the "finishing density" of the top 20-30....as in :what was the spread of the top 20-30 runners by % of time?
Nice, even with the advent of the Livestream in Ultras, this type of old school race montage is still needed. So watchable! I don't know if it's possible to get permission, but would be sweet to combine this with clips from the livestream for some of the interesting passes and developments that were captured.
Thank you! I agree that it’ll always have its place..and yep, Jamil and team at Aravaipa have always been generous with their footage, I just forgot to ask this time around so it didn’t get included! We have a longer vlog coming out about the weekend in a few days, so stayed tuned. We might add in some of that content there! - Finn
Ugh, I know. Not our finest moment. Chalk it up to final editing at 2 in the morning. Caught shortly after publishing. We'll do better next time. We are big Rachel Drake fans here at Singletrack!

Shout out to Scott Hickenlooper, our guy here at Singletrack who produced this short film. More to come over the next few months!
He killed this 🎉
The emotion from Hayden at the 6:25 mark - you can tell that guy loves what he does and has so much respect for this sport. Chills!
let’s go HANS TROYER! He will be one of the best American Ultra runners in history!
Loving the style of this short video! Great work!
Thanks! We're always experimenting over here, so it's greatly appreciated..more to come!

I was there for it but nowhere near the front of the pack. It was an awesome experience though.
