When it comes to making something look natural, it reminds me of what someone said about making Christmas tree lights look good. He said when you finish blur your eyes when your a ways from the tree. If you can see the shape of the tree then you did good. If you can't then you need to fix it.

For older versions like beta you just have to create a texture pack that replaces the Steve skin
