Persians are generally known for that! Most Persians prefer laying around and watching birds/looking out of the window, as opposed to roaming around outdoors. Exceptions exist, of course (as they're all individuals), but generally, Persians are great for lower-energy families who prefer their cats to be indoor cats. However, Persians do need a lot of coat maintenance and cleaning of their faces. If one wants a flat faced cat with short fur, one can get the Exotic Shorthair for a similar "run-into-a-brick-wall" kind of face lmao. Also, Persians often suffer from health issues due to their faces, as should be expected.
that's why flat faced Persians should never be bought from a breeder. There is no reason to support making more of them. Cats should be able to breathe and groom themselves without trouble.
@@Windmelodie Just as with flat faced dogs. I prefer the "doll faced" Persian. Still has the short broad muzzle, but they breathe fine and can groom themselves. (Jan Griffiths).
Just wanted to thank you, Vanessa, for recommending the Happy Hoodie! I’ve had my cat for almost three years and she won’t let me touch or cut her murder mittens. I used the Happy Hoodie and was able to get the front paws trimmed! I didn’t want to stress her out so I didn’t do the back yet. Small wins! For me, it was a bonding moment! After I finished, she marked me up, made me groom her (I also use the Equi-Groomer thanks to you), and made many, many biscuits! Thank you!
I think it actually feels good to the cat having the nails trimmed. They can get so long that it's probably a little bothersome to walk. My cats love their nail trims. They see me with the clipper, and try to push the other off my lap when I'm trimming. I do them every 10-14 days. I gotta get an Equi-Groomer. Seems like it does an excellent job removing the undercoat. (Jan Griffiths).
I really respect a pet owner who can choose comfort over aesthetic for their pets, Sheldon has a beautiful long coat but I am so happy he's getting shaves so that he can stay happy and healthy
@@douglasgriffiths3534 True, Maybe it's just how white and bright they were that made them look bigger than the usually tidy work boot look other Persians seem to have after trimmed mittens.
Our Fluffy had to go yesterday to get her bum shaved. Unfortunately she has to go to the vet and take a little nap. It is really an insult to her but she forgave us.
When I saw you were shaving him again, I was worried. But to hear it's only for his comfort, and he's being well cared for and brushed at home, was a relief. Poor flat-faced cats. They sting my achy brachy heart.
I’m so glad Sheldon was feeling good this time! Last time a lot of commenters were speculating that he had been neglected rather than escaping. So glad to see those people were wrong. Hooray for Sheldon and Sheldon’s humans!

its thanks to your videos that i was able to give my longhair cat an emergency bath after he poo’d himself in his carrier during a drive. he wasnt happy abt it (still young, very intermittent baths to help him adjust to the process) but he didnt end up matted!!
That was so thoughtful of you to include a bath for the carrier as well. I've often wondered whether they felt neglected while you're making its occupant fresh and beautiful. :)
I had my senior cat recently shaved, and the groomer mentioned that at age 15, her fur may grow back more sparse. She wasn't kidding. Her fur is a little thinned out, and it's perfect as she won't mat as much as before.
Yeah, I can imagine shaving him down makes grooming much easier for the owners and also Sheldon happier. :))) I used to own a persian cat and daily brushings and manual detangling of mats is still fresh in my memory. Our cat was fortunately very used to it and took it like a champ and I very much enjoyed grooming her... I miss her dearly. As much as I dislike seeing cats with such pretty unmatted coats shaved down (to the point I find these types of videos rather stress inducing), I'm at the same time happy to see very little comments criticising the owners for their decision to make their lives a bit easier (and Sheldon's too in the process) - he's clearly a very well cared for cat and this is what's most important.
Thank you for adding cat care to your web site. I have 3 cats. 2 short hair, 1 long hair. The long hair takes good care of herself but I regularly have to clean one of her back paws to remove poop & litter. Your training helps!
I know a cat whose natural fur is very long and silky. She always runs low to the ground, I call her a mop. She was always kind of stand offish but when they got her shaved, she was suddenly so much happier!
That was awful nice of you Vanessa to clean out his carrier!! You certainly are a well rounded groomer!!! I wish that I had a cat or dog that needed grooming so I could meet you and have my cat or dog in 1 of your videos....maybe 1 day!!!! ❤ from St. Louis MO!!!!
"Persian cats have flat faces" says Vanessa at 1.02 minutes. Besides making it difficult to groom themselves, it also makes it difficult for them to breathe and causes all sorts of dental problems too. Persian cats have flat faces NOW... but that was never the case in the past. It has only happened in the last few decades. Vanessa may not be old enough to remember when Persian cats looked like cats and not like miserably unhappy stuffed toys; but there are many of us still out here who do. Because some idiotic show judges decided that flat faces looked better, though they don't really and they are wholly harmful to the cat, the whole breed has been ruined. The idiocy of breeding an animal which cannot live a decent life has been much mentioned amongst dogs; where there have been massive complaints about how this has been done to the brachycephalic breeds of dog... it is high time that cat breeders told the show ring where to get off and started breeding for happy, healthy cats again instead of miserable and sick ones.
I'm still unsure of why it is that changing the natural appearance of an animal is supposed to be the "right" way that animal is supposed to look. This includes breeding cats and dogs with squashed faces that is obviously a genetic abnormality and docking dogs because that's the "right" look.
I dearly wish that I could get a persian cat with a normal face. They are so beautiful and calm. One owned by my groomer is delightful, except for the squash face. Being able to breathe well is so important.
@@ChaoticYak1 There are some practical reasons for docking the tails of some breeds if they are working dogs; it never really had anything to do with the "look" but was adopted by showing owners when many of the working breeds diverged into "show" and "working" types. All my spaniels were docked before they came to me because they came from working kennels. I've known dozens of working spaniels (I can't speak for other docked breeds) and not one appeared to be adversely affected by having a half-length tail. I don't think that the UK show rings accept docking nowadays for any breed and you need a vet's certificate to have working puppies docked. Breeding for horrible abnormalities, however, affects the animal for its whole life and in most case it does not look prettier even if it does seem to appeal to some. I think that the cat in this video is plug-ugly in truth and I'd never buy a brachycephalic dog of any sort (or re-home one).
I'm old enough to remember when Persians had normal faces. It's heartbreaking to see them now compared to the majestic way they used to look. My neighbour had the OG Persians, and calls these current ones a textbook case of animal cruelty.
