My favorite stupid item is the katana of paper cuts. It dealt 1d8 damage, but only on bare skin. Did not work on reptilian creatures, characters with a natural armor class of 15 or higher, or birds. It always had a crit on mind flayers for some reason. Best stupid item ever.
What is dungeons and dragons
If you’re asking, genuinely, it is, Asa rules that structure and are part of a beautiful, insanely fun, collaborative table, top, role-play game. It makes more sense when you see it done, for which I recommend Critical Role or any other dungeons and dragons podcast or they actually play the game, watching people play with how I learn the terminology. You play with polyhedral dice, the smallest being in D4, which looks like a pyramid, and the largest being a D2, yes, it does have 20 sides. Please pardon dictation for the errors, that should have been 20.
I'm picturing the DM who gave the Sash Of Swimming that the party put on the Donkey will have it spooked near a large body of water when weighed down with a whole bunch of the party's loot. It will then bolt & promptly swim TOO far away for the party to get to easily, ensue mini-quest to either find it, or they have to start over with basically nothing. I'm SURE that wat the DM means when he says "I haven't forgot about it."
I was given a pair of standard-issue boxing gloves that could knock anyone out with one punch, but their magic only worked when i was wearing them- if anybody else put them on they would act as regular boxing gloves. I was a shrimp. (A shrimp who used to be a gym teacher, but still a shrimp!)
I've never played D&D but all these stories sound amazingly amusing!!
I had a book weapon Th Tome of Voidsinging that summoned a void fireball that shoots at enemies. It dealt 3 + 2d8 damage so pretty powerful. I figured out I could press my book against the enemy and it would summon the fireball inside them. There were two DMs and it still took them 3 minutes to figure out what the special effect would need to be.
I'm stealing that rod of irony, using it for firewood is such a hilarious use as well.

so during a pathfinder game there was one player who was young and new to Role playing. he was so exited to play the game he was literately searching under every single rock. this was slowing down the game significantly. the D,M, wanting to progress the game let the kid have The Vorpal Toothpick. if you use it you roll a D 20. if you rolled anything from a 1 to a 19 you've wasted a turn. however if you rolled a natural 20 you decapitate your target.
OK, the guy who may be never ending, drinking flask, send that my parties way, we have a way of a drunken master monk in our party. Currently he’s off the grid, life has gotten busy and he was also taking his CFP exam, but he’ll be back eventually. He would love it, would par nicely with the ring he has from the adventure guild we start out from. The rings main quality is that it allows him only to feel the good effects of being perpetually drunk.

Our bard was given a butt plug that he couldn't remove and would cause poison damage once a day. Thankfully, I play a half-elf and am immune, the rest of my party however, was not.
No using that want to train everyone in lockpicking? I think that would drive the rogue even more nuts.
I was given a broad sword I bought off a fish person that had a pretty funny recurring effect. Every time I rolled a one the sword would shatter, and from the nearest body of water the fish person who sold it to me would emerge and yell "no refunds". Every time it broke I'd have to give it to my sister who would use her magic to fix the blade.
Never showing this to my Party. I'm not giving them any ideas.
