- An early morning drone flight along the coast before we complete our tour of the Llyn Peninsula then it’s back to Porthmadog where we enjoy a surprisingly good breakfast.
Next stop is Beddgelert where we learn of a legend and see a steam train.

Once went camping with a new girlfriend at Beddgelert - she cried at the story of Gelert , but cried even more when the locals told her it wasn’t true :-)
Hi There Carol and Ken, I do so love watching your adventures especially when I’m feeling low watching you two is a breath of fresh air . Thank you so much xx
Thanks for watching Linda. Hope you are feeling a bit brighter. Take care ❤️
Wow that Gellet dog story was eerie, but so well told through visual, audio and narration. Train enthusiasts are going to like this vid, I know a few people I am going to recommend it too. Top work guys 🙏
We are about to settle down and enjoy your latest. Add the Isle of Man to your list. No idea how they would score on vegan food but camping is very laid back 👍
@@LifeistooshortCK laid back camping 🏕 sounds ideal! Just been watching yours in a lay-by in South West Wales. Have a lovely evening and look forward to the Isle of Man series when they come 🚐
The story of the man ,child and brave dog was gripping.
That was brilliant . You are still the best. Thank you Carol and Ken.
Mik here
Wonderful video, I think personally one of your best. Great music that went so well with the scenic views.
Thanks Mik. That’s very kind 😀
Lovely video again , that looked like a hearty breakfast for the start of your day , Beddgelert looks a lovely place and a nice River walk , it was a sad sorry about the dog , keep safe and carry on with your videos , I love them .
Thanks Wendy. It was!
Last time I was in that area they were having a purge on all the rhododendron growing on the mountainside. Love the drive through the pass of Aberglaslyn.
Fascinating story about Gelart the hunting dog. Never jump to conclusions at first sight of a crime scene! 🤔
Good advice Richard 🙂👍
The accompanying music in this video was divine!!
Thanks Simon 😊
I would have been grateful for a little map popping up to show where you are and the journey the train took.
Absolutely loving your videos, I'm knee-deep in a binge watch! 😁
👍
Great video of the steam train with the high class coaches, they really had style years ago.
Thanks Chris. Yes those seats looked extremely comfortable 👍🙂
Another brilliant video. Loverly music to accompany it too x
So your out enjoying life, complete freedom, but then that which darkens the clouds and brings down the soul to utter pits of depression, yes the parking ticket is nearly out of time😉😉, thanks again guys 👍
Thanks for watching Douglas. We can’t be out enjoying life all day long can we 😉😀👍
@@LifeistooshortCK 😁😎😉
Beautiful as always that was a substantial breakfast looked delicious 😋 thanks for your efforts take care
Ahoy Pirates! Dear Gelert! :( Yeah, true story, all dogs are like that, sacrificing their lives for humans - worthy or not. Thanks for sharing even if it was a saddening one at the end. Loved the train and river footage! Amazing scenery! Yeah, at some point we all wish we had a Little Red Camper! .) Bear hugs, Captain of the good old Blackthorne
I love watching your journeys in your little red van, the beautiful places you visit are the nearest I’ll get to being on holiday this year. Thank you, keep your cameras rolling xx
Thanks for coming along with us Celia. Glad you are enjoying the scenery 😀
One of our favourite places in Wales and our favourite folk tale. We hope to ride the steam train next year. Beautifully shot video xxx
Thank you. It was one of our favourite places too 😊
Great video, we love your hints and tips, we've just done our first "wild" camp inspired by your videos, but with 3 kids it's definitely not as easy or as tranquil as yours look 😂👍
Much harder with kids I would imagine but good to hear you wild camped 👍
Lots going on in this video, loved it as usual, the scenery, story (bit sad, but ..), and beautiful camera work. The award for best line has to go to "I bet he wishes he had a little red camper!" 😆👍
Thanks Sue, glad you enjoyed it. Makes us appreciate having a small van 😊
Many thanks guys, for sharing and very informative history much appreciated.
Our pleasure!
Very sad story but shows what happens if you jump to conclusions. Beautiful scenery as usual as well as music. I love steam trains and we always look for new ones to visit here in New York.
Thanks for watching Larry 😀
Another great video Ken and Carol. Looking forward to the next one as ever. Hope you found a spot to pitch up for the night!
Beautiful area! I felt like I was riding along with you on this adventure. Thanks so much for sharing your travels.
Thanks for joining us 😀
It's a lifetime ago and a world away from me now but a pleasure to see you exploring the landscape of my childhood. It's nice to see the place I come from looking so beautiful.. swiftly followed by a burnt out car next to the train station I stood at every school day as a boy in the 80's , so little change there.
Glad you enjoyed it and we could bring back some childhood memories for you.
Thank you for sharing. Gelart story always makes me cry because it’s so sad and I’m super sensitive 🙂Beautiful part of Wales. Looking forward to the next instalment.
Beautiful.
So enjoyed watching your journey and unique stories. Beautiful areas and music ❣️
Thanks Jackie 👍🙂
Brilliant as usual. You both make everywhere look so beautiful.
Stay safe.
How I wish I had a little NV200! Ken, very wise to stay silent during the “steamy bits” I laughed so much at that!! shame there were no dippers on the river.
Thanks Sheila, glad you appreciated it 😊
Another interesting video guys. There's some thing about the steam train era that makes you wish we could wind back the clock. Safe travels to you both x
Thanks Michael. Yes we enjoy the old steam trains, a gentler pace of travel 👍😀
I have to say that watching your videos in general and particularly the three post 100 wild camps videos, the new legislation video and the keeping safe wild camping video, that you channel is the most informative and entertaining camper van channel out there, for people new to camper vanning like me - thank you ! You take a logical approach to your thinking on the matter, obviously your training as a policeman has helped along the way.
Wow, thank you so much Steve. Glad you find the videos both useful and entertaining 😀👍
Great video, as usual. With reference to you saying that comments have been made about your driving tips, I think it is good to have tips from a Police trained driver. My husband is a Police trained driver and I find his tips invaluable when I am driving our campervan, albeit it does feel like a driving lesson !!!
Carol feels the same way too but us ex police just can’t help it. We probably both had a thousand times worse feedback from our instructors on our courses 😁👍
Love Beddgelert. I'm proud to say I gave the 1,000th Like on this great video.
Thanks Bobby. 👍
That’s the most heartbreaking story 😢 x
Yes, very sad 😢
Excellent. Enjoy! ☘️🧙♀️🇮🇪
Thank you! 😃
jI am just back from North Wales and had a great time last couple days heavy rain. I went to Port Merion and was amazed by the atmosphere of the place. I was up at Snowdon mountain well the car park and took photos of where you took the drone footage. Drove over the bridge and bedgellert. What a lovely place. I remember the actor Richard Wilson stop here on his venture for an ice cream . He was the main actor in one foot in the grave. That was some years back and always wanted to visit it. So i did last week. Your videos are great and very informative. regards Mark.
Thanks Mark. Glad you got to visit, sounds like you had a wonderful time 🙂
These have been the BEST videos ever!!!♥3
Awww thank you Mary, very kind of you 😊
We finally found some wifi! That full english looks incredible, I have serious bacon cravings now. Not ideal in Italy... Hope you are both keeping well. All the best. Alan and Sadge
We are good thanks 👍
The legendary story of Gelert, great to have the cultural description to the travel Vlog.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hello both, I'm a newbie.. I've been catching up watching your videos, isn't Wales beautiful?.. My husband and I have been touring around Wales recently, pretty much the same place's you have visited . We had such a lovely time and the weather was just perfect yay!! 😁 Its lovely to watch your adventures around beautiful Wales..😊 Oh I wish I was back on the road but work is a must.. 😂 Anyway enjoy the rest of your travels and thank you for sharing 😁
We love Beddgelert but haven’t visited for a while.
The story of gelert the dog breaks our hearts
Such a sad story and a lovely place ❤️
I always enjoy your videos. The food looked delicious and the scenery is spectacular. Your editing skills are very good. Gave it a thumbs up 👍 and a comment as I know it helps the channel. Take care. Mary
Thanks Mary. We appreciate the like and your lovely comment 😀👍
Lovely lovely, thanks for sharing....
You’re welcome Diana 🙂👍
More favourite places. A return to North Wales is due I think!
👍🙂
Thank you for the tour! 🤗🙏
You’re welcome ☺️
Relax take it easy folks, there is no rush!! 👍😁😎🌞
Cheers 😀
Loved both the myth and the steam train, what an episode that was 👍
Thanks for watching Mike and Trish. Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
Well that was great so beautiful there and wow great breakfast I miss black pudding :) I do remember the sad story about the hunting dog . Ken I love the music again who was sing the song just after breakfast and the last song was nice but only heard a little of it. Thanks again also thanks from my Mum she is in to it now and looks forward to your videos. Take care .
The music just after breakfast was Casa Monte Negra by The Whiskey Wasps and the track at the end was Land Called Fantasy by Ziv Moran.
Best wishes to you and your Mum 😀
@@LifeistooshortCK many thanks Ken you and I have the same very eclectic taste in music it makes such a difference with the right choices of music .
Excellent video 👌 👍👍👍👍😊
Thank you
Thanks Andy 🙂👍
Great vlog Ken and Carol. Really nice drone footage. Such a sad tale about Gelart. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching 👍🙂
Another great…thank you!
Thanks Michele 😊
Really enjoyed this - looks a great place to stop around Gelert and the railway … great storytelling as ever that holds you
Thanks Stew and Jane. Yes definitely worth a visit 🙂👍
Hi Carol & Ken, Great video as always, really bought back some lovely memories, we used to camp in the forestry commission site , we loved the walk down the river as you did, our kids used to play in the river, we could never keep them out.
You missed a treat not calling in the ice cream parlour, their ice creams were always the best.
Thanks for sharing
Nige & Adele
Thanks Nige & Adele. Wishing we had tried the ice cream now ☺️
The videos are so informative but in an informal manner. Ultimately they have such an enjoyable and comforting effect that I look out keenly for the next Vlog. I've always wanted to see Porthmadog because my dear Mum and Dad visited it regularly. Now that I have I look forward to the next vid. Thanks to you both.
Thanks Thomas. Hope you get to see Porthmadog one day.
Diolch/thank you for sharing this excellent video of beautiful Beddgelert 🌟
You’re welcome Claire 😊
One of our favourite places, which is why we filmed there too but we didn't have the blue skies unfortunately, it was drizzly. One of the best ice cream shops there ever too. Love our ice cream lol.
Very lucky with the weather that day for sure. Missed out on the ice cream though. 🙄
@@LifeistooshortCK so did we cos of the rain lol. Maybe next time you're there!x
See 4 dislikes just wondering what's to dislike, your vids informative and always worth watching thank you..
Thanks Fred 😊
Great video, thanks for the journey
Thanks for watching Marie.
the views, scenery are fantastic.Places you go to ive not heard of, I luv the little houses you pass by
. have a nice day.
Thanks Moira. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🙂
Greetings from Ohio! I know I sound like a broken record at this point, but I can't say enough how much we are enjoying this series on Wales. We have been fortunate enough to visit London, Chesham (my sister in law's family lives there) and Edinburgh. We have been trying to plan a trip to Ireland and initially found your channel from our research for that trip. It looks like our plans for Ireland will now be delayed another year due to the current global situation...but, I must say, we are now OBSESSED with visiting WALES based on your gorgeous footage and brilliant storytelling. Warm regards to both of you and thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you so much for commenting. Wales is definitely worth visiting. We have only shown a bit of the North but there is so much more. Have you seen our series on the Brecon Beacons in Wales? The South coast is also very beautiful around the Gower Peninsula and Pembrokeshire. Best wishes to you in Ohio 🙂👍
@@LifeistooshortCK Yes, definitely enjoyed the entire Brecon Beacons - absolutely brilliant. We have actually watched ALL of your videos on this wonderful channel! I'll be looking for that 'Life is too short' merit badge in the mail! Ha Ha!
@@shawnwillis7848 thank you for your dedication, your badge is in the post 😉😂😁👍
That was a beautifully shot intro with the drone, great music too, well done.
Thanks Steve
Dear Carol and Ken
More wonderful videos of beautiful Wales - Thank you so much.
We can't wait to go back ourselves for some more exploring.
Also, I LOVE your eclectic music selection - are you able to include a description of the tracks and artists you feature in the videos?
Happy travelling.
Kind regards,
Tim and Nicky
Hi Tim and Nicky
Glad you are enjoying the videos. We do try and remember to note what music was used but it is easy to forget 🙄 A couple of the tracks in this episode are
04:51 Casa Monte Negra by The Whiskey Wasps
17:39 Land called Fantasy by Ziv Moran
Thanks for watching 😊
@@LifeistooshortCK oh that's great- thank you. 👍
An excellent video about an area that my wife and I know and love well. If you ever get the chance, take the full return trip on the Welsh Highland Railway from Porthmadog to Caernarfon (or vice versa). The views from the train on a fine day, particularly as it passes beneath Snowdon, are truly memorable. We can endorse your recommendation of the Breaktimes Cafe in Porthmadog. It's also the go-to place for breakfast for people staying at the Porthmadog Travelodge Hotel which is on the edge of the same industrial estate. By the way, we ordered a RidgeMonkey Connect Compact XL Sandwich Toaster via your Amazon affiliate link last Friday afternoon (2 days ago) and were amazed when it was delivered by Standard Delivery (not Amazon Prime) on Saturday afternoon (yesterday) - less than 24 hours from order! Our first attempt at using the RM was today's lunch - cheese and onion toasties on our homemade sundried tomato, red onion, Red Leicester cheese, spiced loaf and herby bread - a complete success, and we look forward to working our way through the recipes on the Facebook Ridge Monkey Recipes Group pages that Carol mentioned in one of your videos. Looking forward to your next video.
Thanks Fred. We would definitely love to do that steam train ride one day. Thanks for ordering through our link. Glad you are happy with your RidgeMonkey. Those sandwiches sound delicious 😋
love the new titles and also the background music- very soothing
Thanks Ian.
Lovely video. So many more places I now have to visit next time I go up there to climb the hills.
Thanks Euan. Enjoy 👍🙂
Really good video again. New opening sequence looked smart. Very nice place and the story of the prince was beautiful. Thanks for sharing that. All the best from Mal, Dave and Sally the Lab aka The SilvertopMotorhomers x
Cheers 👍
Another enjoyable episode Ken and Carol. As always soundtracks spot on. I am curious how long it takes to choose what you will use.
Most of the time a minute or two, sometimes I can’t find what I want and have to leave it for a while and try again.
A couple of days ago, when clicking on TH-cam “Life is Too Short” came up. Naturally I clicked on expecting to see Ken & Carol but no, it was a video about a dwarf who appeared in Star Wars. Great video all the same and very funny. However, nice to see you back. Loved the dog story.
😁😁😁👍
Excellent as always. Cafe looked great, I’m a creature of habit so full English for me 😁
The breakfast was first class 🙂👍
Great series👍 love the drone shots, they are top notch. Take care😊
Thanks Anita 🙂👍
Great video and adventure Ken x Carol x You’ve helped me with a possible name for my future dog van companion ( When I find one to adopt !! ) Mmm x I wonder what it could be ! 😜 Take Care both Travel Safe hugs x 👍🚐🚐🏴 Stephen….
Thanks Stephen. A dog companion sounds like a wonderful idea. We hope you find a suitable doggie friend soon. Looking forward to seeing you back on your travels soon. Take care 😀🚐❤️👍xx
Going to Porthmadog to stay in a cottage at end of month. Will definitely go to Breaktimes. Would never had found it ourselves .Thanks
We definitely recommend it 🙂👍
Another cracking video.
Keep up the good work! 👍
Thanks, will do!
Hello Carol & Ken.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoy your channel. You are an inspiration.
What are your top 5 destinations?
Thanks Ian. Impossible to gives top 5 as there are so many different reasons for enjoying a destination. Our Iceland trip in the caravan has always been a favourite though as it was such an adventure getting there. Would love to go back in the camper one day.
Hi Ken.
That's true. We have just completed a few local trips in our self build van and are planning a trip back up to Scotland but this time it will be Isle of Skye and over to the Outer Hebrides. Is there any tips you could provide us with please.
Keep up the excellent vlogs.
Ian & Carol.
@@ianwilmshurst1343 we haven’t been to Scotland yet in the little red camper but the best thing we have learnt on a long trip is take it slow. Make sure you factor in some down time to relax and do nothing 😀 Have a great trip 👍
Ken & Carol.
Thank you for your replies. We will do just that, nice and slow. As we are from the south coast, we were thinking of stopping at Peak district, lake district and somewhere near Glencoe. Then Skye & Hebrides.
All the best to you both in your future travels.
Ian & Carol..
1) As a devout and strict vegan myself, I'd pick the Samson from the menu and add extra scrambled eggs, Extra black pud, extra toast with butter and a pot of tea with milk.
2) The pictures of your breakfast looked utterly delicious. Good service and clean amenities means 100 points for that establishment.
3) The story of Gelert was quite moving. Thank you. The moral of the story is to not take the law into your own hands and when you're mad stop and take 3 deep breaths first.
4) The Industrial Revolution - Brought to you by England. Fred Dibnah MBE would be proud :-)
Great comments, thanks Ade 😀👍
lovely story about Gelart, great video as usual. Can you tell me what phone holder you use please.
Thanks Yvonne. The phone holder is from cdslotmount.com and cost £14.95.
enjoying your videos subscribed
Welcome 👍
Hi carol & ken. Just wondering what you use to edit your videos … do you use your iPad etc ? Loving this series
Thanks Daniel. Up to now I was using an iPad Pro and LumaFusion App. This episode and going forwards I am using a MacBook Air and Final Cut Pro.
Hi Carol and Ken
Love your videos.
We are looking at buying a camper with an on board LPG gas tank. However we are worried about finding laces to fill the tank, we like to spend time in the Scottish Highlands and Islands, and wonder if we may have a problem with this. Do you have a way of knowing where you can find the LPG fuel? Thanks in anticipation. K
There is an app called myLPG.EU which shows where they are and the last time they were used 👍
Hi Ken & Carol, What fab trip you are on!! we are looking to replace our mat in our van and wanted to know where you bought your new one, our old one holds all the grass etc and takes ages to bang out, yours looks like it’s edged, is it water proof too? Keep up the brill vlogs, love your nicknames for each too!! We do the same ❤️ Keep Safe x
Hi Andy and Jenny. There is a link to our Amazon storefront in the video description. The mat is in the “Things for inside the van” section. It is edged and has a rubber backing and is easy to wash in a washing machine. Take care 🙂
Hi Ken, thank you so much for your help I did see it in your Amazon shop but thought it was just a small door mat sized mat, dou!!! I’ll take a closer look and get one on order, I really like the system Carol uses for hair washing so I’ll add that gadget to my list as well 👍🏻 Keep safe xx
Just to give you some feedback the changes to your editing have been noticed, more polished and good narration 👍
Thanks for the feedback. Good to know 👍🙂
Nice clean and unspoiled area. Great shots as usual. History and heritage everywhere. No Carol cooking today? Stay safe.
Thanks John. Chef’s day off 😁
I’m sorry to say but I’ve heard that story before but I still like your video
It is a well known tale. Thanks for watching 🙂
Hi C&K, I'm having a nice trip with you in Wales. Could you please tell me what kit you use for filming and drone work? David Rhosgadfan, North Wales
DJI Mavic mini 2. Canon HFG50. Osmo Action.
Lovelly
I loved your video and I'm looking forward to watching more of them. The 'faithful hound' story is great but, sadly, a complete fabrication. The village name is much older than the eventual story. Beddgelert is probably named after a local saint called Cilert. The story, which is based on an ancient legend, was tied to the place name by an enterprising businessman who owned the Royal Goat Inn, on the edge of the village.
He must have been a very successful businessman because that story certainly lures in visitors to the village 👍🙂
Lynn on Hubby's phone 😏, Hi Ken ,hope your well 😊, I've just about sorted out how to get your vids in order , but when I come to charge my battery on my phone ( because that's what I have to use ) , the battery is still low .I'm so confused 🤔🤔, can you help , I know , totally thinkI am with tec 😂😂, Thanks Ken 😊👍
What I meant to say was your video disappears after I've charged my battery 🤔
I can only assume TH-cam is offering the video to you via its Home Screen but if your phone loses power or is turned off then it’s not offered again as TH-cam thinks you don’t want to watch it. Easiest way is to go to our channel, click the videos tab and everything will be there.
@@LifeistooshortCK Thank You 😊👍
Hi there, just quick question have you any plans to visit gods own country "Yorkshire"
No definite plans at the moment. We paid a quick visit on our very first campervan trip so will go back to explore more one day 👍🙂
👍😎😎
