    I love this video series! You are so encouraging. My shirt doesn't look great but, eh, I made it and now I have the confidence to make another. As you said in the first video, our first shirt isn't going to be perfect but I am going to keep trying to improve.
    Thanks for the help on deciphering the pattern sleeve insert. It was confusing for me until you showed me how. Thanks again
    for all your help!

    I was confused about the 2 stitches until you walked through it. I tend to read too much into written instructions so visual learning is great for me. Cant wait to buy this pattern annd do it step by step.

    You saved me from blowing the placement of the sleeves! I forgot to take a moment to check the notch placement! Thanks Vanessa!

      Love his pattern I used 97% rayon with 3% spandex and there was no fraying. Pattern fit perfectly other than length since I’m 5’1”. Thanks so much Vanessa.

    Great series! Thank you for all your hard work on this. I think this has been widely popular. Butterick has this pattern on back order, so I’m thinking they have you to thank for that😎😎😎

    Thank you Vanessa. You’re a natural as a teacher. I’ve sewn clothes for me before, but stayed away from set-in sleeves. They always came out wonky. Raglans and other straight armholes have been my favorite, but following your instructions, VOILÁ. I tried the top on as the sewing went along and since I have a medium bust and am smaller going down the top was too wide making it look like a tent. So, I tried basting the side seam about an inch in and it came out very well. Then, I did the permanent seam down the side. Also, I finished the seams with a serger after I was sure of the fit. What I learned new?: the double notch trick and the little dots to match the sleeve. Thanks again.

    Great info Vanessa, thanks. It really helps to see what you are doing While you are explaining it. I'm learning so much including what Not to do. Paper patterns are quite different than PDF ones & it's good to learn how to use both for making garments.

    Hi Vanessa, great job as usual. One other thing that might be helpful to newbies: you might want to address iron temperature and washing temperature for rayon fabrics, as many people don't realize how easy it is to shrink an/or melt/scorch this kind of fabric. Several times I have been shocked at how much a purchased skirt has shrunken, even when washed in cold water, the first time. So, if someone isn't thinking . . . Ooops!

    You highly recommend rayon challis for this pattern, because there is no stretch does it easily go over your head or do you have to work this into the size you choose? In your experience with rayon is it machine washable? Thank you for the clear instruction video. ❣️

    Thank you for this series. I am getting back into garment construction. I take the time to trace my pattern, being a curvy girl I need to adjust the pattern and then make a sloper before cutting my good fabric. Do you ever French seam? I like the finished look of it and like doing it, but a lot of people deter me from it.

    I want to start with saying I have not made a garment since jr high (1972). I made one top out of rayon, I found it difficult to work rayon. So I choose to make the top out of seersucker. It does not drape as nice as rayon, but I have successfully made the top. Thanks for the lessons. I learned a lot of how to and how not to make a top

    Thank you for going so in-depth with this sew along series, Vanessa. I am learning so much with each video! I have one question, though. Instead of using pinking shears, couldn’t I use my serger to finish the sleeves instead of the second row of stitching, as well as for any other seams?

    • @TheCraftyGemini
      @TheCraftyGemini  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! In this beginner series I’m just assuming newbies only have a sewing machine. But yes, serge away to finish the seam allowances. I would still sew the construction seam with the sewing machine to make sure it’s accurate since the server speed can get away from you sometimes! Happy sewing!

    • @teriralph4132
      @teriralph4132 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheCraftyGemini Yes, I was definitely going to sew the 5/8’s seam with the sewing machine, and I understand this is a very beginner sewing tutorial, which is what I am when it comes to sewing clothing. However, I was told a couple of months ago that a Serger would be a great purchase if I were to get into sewing my own clothes, or for my grandkids. So, I bought one, and so far I love it!

    I did regular sleeves instead of the cap sleeves. Why did I have an awful lot of extra fabric when I attempted to set them in? I matched all the markings and still had little puckers when done. What did I do wrong?
