Drone Footage of Mobula Rays Jumping Into The Air in the Sea of Cortez: An Incredible Experience.

  • In Part 1 of my journey into the Sea of Cortez, I focus on the two most common rays in the Sea of Cortez. The Cownose Ray and the Mobula Ray. Both are incredibly beautiful. Mobula Rays are sometimes called flying rays, thanks to their acrobatic leaping. But scientists are not sure exactly why they do it. In this video, I showcase these jumps and discuss a few things you may not have known about these magnificent fish.
Thanks to the crew of the Gallant Lady.

I've seen them before. At night you all you hear are these surprisingly loud claps as they belly flop on the oceans surface. Peaceful and not being afraid of humans, I pray humanity never finds a need to hunt and decimate these beautiful creatures.

That shot of the cownose rays diving into the deep was mesmerizing, I could watch it over and over.

You know how you have awards for films. Do they have one for amazing TH-cam videos/ documentaries? Man you would be at the top of the list sir!!!
Your video presentation, narration and subjects (sharks and coastline) are superb and second to no one.
Man if I were National Geographic or Nature I would be scooping you up and have you make some amazing shows/episodes/documentaries!!!!

I love your channel, and your photography is just simply breathtaking. Your capturing of the video footage of the wonderous sealife is so relaxing and fun to watch. The Rays look like dancing diamonds in the surf. Love it!

I saw this while fishing in Cabo San Lucas in April some years back. The school was as far as the eye could see, absolutely amazing! The captain said, the jumping was for cleaning purposes.

Thanks for this video. On one of your other videos of the cownose I mentioned I was diving under the rays. I was not sure of the species but as I watched this video and the jumping rays it brought back the slapping sound that caught our attention to flip over and look up. In the video where you filmed the cownose in deep water it look as though they were flying, however they were in water. To answer your question at the beginning of the video......its the Ocean. Thanks for sharing your passion to all of us. The ocean is a magnificent wonder.

Absolutely stunning videos. A real pleasure to watch and incredibly relaxing! I have just watched four one after the other. I loved the rays.
I had an encounter with some sting rays which had been fed regularly at a beach in the Caribbean islands. They are incredible and love to rub their wings against tourists legs as they are hand fed. I would never have had such an experience and learnt more about them had I not attended the tour.
We have basking sharks around the south coast of England. Also some whales will swim by coming up off of the warm Gulf Stream waters. I expect there are numerous species out there which swim our seas that I haven't heard about.
Thank you for filming these beautiful creatures. I too am saddened about the amount of rubbish and plastics in the oceans. It's heartbreaking.

In Florida, East Coast, there was a huge fever of them on the shore, and they all surrounded my legs. One of the most incredible things i've experienced. We have a bunch of pictures of it. We did see a larger fish near by, could have been a small shark.

This is crazy footage. I dunno how much you travel but I surf trestles almost everyday when it’s good and almost every person I’ve surfed with the past two weeks has seen a shark up close or sharks breaching within 100-200 yards of Lowers. It’s been highly abnormal behavior from what I know. There’s even been a few incidents of sharks surfacing right in the middle of the lineup that I’ve seen personally and probably many more incidents idk? I’m just one person but I’ve never had to deal with sharks this up close and personal on a consistent basis in 15 years of surfing So Cal.
