PP’s first reaction was to shake Armada’s hand. I swear you never see that. Usually it’s like, huge pop off into “oh yeah, the hand shake.” What a class act PP is
he did the same thing after he beat Leffen in a super tight game 5. he popped off really hard, but only after just sighing and shaking his hand. I miss dr PP :(

I'm hella late, but if you wanna follow the logic:
he's at 11 now that he's turned it up two notches
he was at 9 before this moment
he started at 10
For him to have gone from 10 to 9 he first dropped 1 (as in he played slowly/sluggishly)
at 8:20 Armada started to play out of his mind as pointed out by Toph saying he turned it up two notches
so the way it went was "10-1=9, 9+2=11" and that's all

also armada went fox when he literally just started using fox in tournament a month before Apex so I'd say that he was proud to be able to take a set off PP with his new fox
If you watched this live, after set 1, you see ppmd sitting there thinking for like a good minute. Then the next set, he just 3-0's armada. That is pure peace of mind there. That is playing one hundred percent cerebral.
I like the narrative here. Armada abandoned Peach since he considers her potential to be limiting, so he's going for victories as Fox. PP on the other hand, goes down the tier list to Marth and still dominates. PP is the anti 20XX, a true hero in Smash.
it has been theorized that marth is the counter to 20XX. 20XX foxes can SDI out of falco's combos, and a good marth can combo fox the best out of any character. The counterpick does make sense.

Top marth players (Ken and Mew2king) have been known to slay spacies. Plus, PPMD originally picked up marth to counter Armada's Peach. Peach also has harder matchups against the top tiers (especially vs fox and puff) than marth does. It's not really fair to compare Armada and PPMD that way.

Vault Boy® 20XX isn't here. Right now it's Fox, Falco, and Marth are the most relevant. Sheik is still sort of in there. Jiggs is sort of dying but that's because only HBox plays her. Everyone else is phasing out of the meta.

It's amazing how I have come to appreciate this series more and more over the years all the while gaining experience playing the game myself (as a Marth main.) I'm able to notice things I never have and it only adds to my positive experience spectating PPMD, the champion of Apex 2015!

Something I just noticed years later-Armada loses his final stock on the final game the SECOND the Dream Land music ends before looping again. Feels like the stars really aligned in every way for PPMD that day ✨
PPMD's Up-B at the end was the most clutch decision i've ever seen.
Man PP's Marth looked soo good this tourney. Really hope he can make these kind of plays and more to keep up with the meta in the future.

Both players weren't even in their prime here; Armada hadn't even begun to peak and PP was arguably coming down to his final hurrah. Still, this is my favourite set(s) of all time. Such heart-pounding gameplay where both players pushed eachother past their limits game after game.
I often think about the way PPMD removes and puts the cap on his monster. Something about it is so deliberate and exemplary.

I was curious if anyone could explain this to me, why is it that Sheik is played so often is doubles for Melee but almost never seen in singles for Melee? Thanks in advance!
***** From my experience, Sheik isn't the best in the finishing off opponent's department, but is good for racking up damage and having another character polish them off. Also, in team battles, the general mayhem allows Sheik's approaches to be muffled by the onscreen chaos.
Liam Bird Sheik is the gimp master lol all sheik does is finish stocks. M2k was the most high level sheik at this time but he also plays marth so you'd probably see more of that. Today (6 months later?) there's so many sheiks who play at a high level.

Hey guys, I'm kinda new in the community. Can someone explain me the concept of reset ? Because Armada won the first one and PPMD won the second one, so the score is like Armada 1 - 1 PPMD right ? Why isn't there a 3rd set ?
Wodto If someone wins losers finals, and then wins grand finals, it makes it so you have to play the match over again. Basically a way to show you are the best even if you lost a game and got put into losers. If PPMD won that first set there would not have been a reset and would have won the tournament right there.

If anyone is wondering why it was a fox v marth (strangely enough), it's cuz pp's falco destroys armada's fox, armada's peach destroys pp's falco, and pp's marth destroys armada's peach. The fox v marth is as equal as it gets between the two. HYPE MATCH THO
PPMD's Falco loses vs Armada's Peach and Fox and Falco are even. Armada has a winning record over PPMD's Marth but I guess its not arguably different now. PPMD's Marth destroys Armada's Fox though.

These grand finals - no, the top 8 in general - were more hype than Evo 2015's.
Hungrybox ruined evo, also when tournaments are played at night time they somehow feel more hype, best of 3 means less melee... Etc

I don't know why they were surprised. I haven't watched a great deal of matches but from what I have seen Armada never sulks or gets salty after a loss.
