Brilliant filming lovely loco that was my dad’s favourite loco in the 50s when he was a fireman then driver at nine elms depot just shown him your footage he said it brought back loads of fond memories working on her just brilliant he reply was keep up the good work 👍👍
Brilliant video. Bullied,s boiler design working well by the look of it. Oliver would proud to see one of his locos flying the flag even though it’s a re-built. Think you must be a country man at heart, really appreciate the mixture of trains and flora. Stay well.Mick🇬🇧
Thank you! A biased opinion, but Bulleid boilers really are the finest designs of them all. The countryside is incredibly photogenic - and also works wonders for setting the scene of these videos.
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel Totally biased. Even think the Q1 is handsome in its own curious way. Remember bunking off school and hiding in the grass opposite East Box (that was until we were reported by the signalman) to watch the Bullied Pacific’s on heavy boat trains making their slippery starts on the incline out of Tonbridge up to Hildenborough bank. Ah, those were the days. Thanks. Mick
‘Thar she blows!’ My what a show coming up the cutting with the safety blowing off like the great white whale himself! ! Brilliant filming of your outing. Cheers!
Good old Bulleid Pacific, loads of pressure and steam to give away!! Great to see her where she belongs. Again, loving the detail shots at service and a treat to see a turntable turning. You must have been motoring some to get from Bincombe to Eastleigh before she did!!!🤔🤔🤔. Super stuff as usual young man.👍
Thanks very much, Bob! It has been nice to have her down here, even for a short while. In fairness, there was a water stop at Brockenhurst, which meant there was plenty of time in hand to get to Eastleigh - we were more lucky to avoid being bowled
Waited 2 years to do this trip. Fantastic day out, even got on the footplate and sat in the driver’s seat whilst we were taking on water at Winchfield. Great to see this locomotive in the film doing the actual trip. Dining on board was some experience.
Wonderful. Thank you for your video. Personally I think this Rebuilt example and the West Country Class look better than their original streamlined appearance. The nameplates of this Class are probably the most characterful of British locomotives. 👍🏻
Looks superb on the turntable - sort of reminded me of a Thomas episode I'd just watched with my youngest yesterday, with Gordon on the tt !! Was that a safety valve issue, or was it ridiculously over-pressure? Al.
Splendid stuff. 👍👍👍 There's some footage of that, and other trains, on my channel if you'd like to have a look. Can I ask what type of camera you use? I'm thinking of getting another one but, with so many to choose from, I thought that I'd see what other people use.
Under normal circumstances, I'd share the sentiment. However, the gent is a friend of mine; I had let him know that I intended to pan around, which he was more than happy to accomodate - but as 35018 appeared, we both suffered tunnel vision with our cameras. I was equally unaware of his position, as he was about my panning speed. In the end, there's nothing that can be done, and in hindsight we've had a laugh about it; so decided to keep it in.

Thanks very much! I'm glad to hear the video proved evocative for him, that's very heartwarming to hear.
An excellent compilation. Some wonderful settings. Thanks
Thanks very much.
It’s 54 years since steam on southern region ended Matt
Great video. Loved the Yeovil turntable bit. I filmed the train at Woking on the outward journey. Just like the old days.
Thanks very much! It's refreshing to see a turntable still earning its keep for mainline work.

Completely agree with you - the Q1 is a wonderful workhorse, very underrated. Would have loved to have witnessed that.

Thanks very much! It was certainly a fine perfomence coming away from Winchfield.
Beautiful shots Matthew, A merchant navy in its natural habitat. You gotta love it.

Would love to have that experience with a Merchant. Glad you enjoyed your trip.
Stunning video Matthew, love the turntable shots, in fact loved it all, British India Line looks good.
Thanks very much, Paul! She really does look the business.
Cracking footage as come to be expected from The Southerner. My goodness you did very well to get from Bincombe to Eastleigh ahead of it!!👏
Thanks very much, Jules. Luckily, had a water stop which gave some time in hand.
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel Of course, Brockenhurst. Still, very good going.
It did require a spirited drive, it must be said.
excellent shots 👍not often you see a turntable in use 🤔
Thank you. Certainly is a rarity these days, but very welcome.
Fantastic video my friend ✌😎

Oooh, got to disagree - prefer the original designs.
Lovely Video of 35018
Thanks very much
Beautiful locomotive!
She sure is
Super good video :)
Thank you
I didnt know you were at Eastleigh, i was at the other end of the platform 😂
These cameras get around ;)

Decent water level, fresh load of coal on the fire, and an excellent steam raising boiler.

Camera: Panasonic HC-V770
Microphone: Rode StereoMic Pro + Windbreak
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel Thanks for getting back to me. Perhaps I should put one of those on my shortlist!
Not a problem. The camera is very workable, user friendly, and good for the money. But arguably there's better.
👍🏻

Shame about the #$%^&@ in the blue t-shirt.
