I was crew at Brighton Lifeboat when the VERY first pagers were tested. It happened because the chairman of the GPO lived in the same road as our then chairman and i think were both Rotarians and were discussing a proposal for The GPO to trial a new pagers system for businesses. Charles Wilson (our Hon Sec ) explained how it was becoming more difficult for large town crews to be mustered and so we became the first crew to have them, lots of press from the GPO (now BT) used the occasion to promote them.
I remember the times when I’m with my uncle and his pager went off and off he went racing to the lifeboat station in Padstow to rescue someone in need ever since the early 2000s well done to all people who save lives

In Germany those pager are created by "Swissphone"
They’re sold in Germany by Swissphone but they’re designed and manufactured in Switzerland by Swissphone, hence the name! I carry one myself.
