    It is extremely bizarre that such an essential life saving service is funded by donations. 🤔
    Britain is not exactly a third world country that has no money to fund such an essential life saving service in the centre of London.

      Actually it's not bizarre. It's actually better. Even the London Air Ambulance is a charity.

      @@transportflick923 I realise this is a week later but organisations such as RNLI and London Air Ambulance actually refuse government money as it keeps them independent from bureaucracy and oversight. Imagine receiving £1 Million and then having to hire expensive consultants to help audit and ensure the money continues to come in as different governments come in with different priorities. Donors are a reliable source of income, even during tough times.

      However I do think that the government should pay them for what they do.

      The RNLI couldn't operate in the same way it is now if it was government founded. Nearly all crew are volunteers. You couldn’t have a government founded organization based on volunteers. The cost of running the RNLI in the same way as today with paid staff would be extraordinarily high. So a government founded RNLI wouldn’t be able to offer as good a service as today

    This video is absolutely infuriating. Total respect for the RNLI, but it's frankly shocking that this has to be funded by donation and that we have unpaid volunteers doing 10 hour shifts. This is basically an ambulance service on the water, how in the world is it not a public service just like ambulances, police and firefighters? For God's sake this service needs to be funded and these people need to be PAID.

      If they are government funded then the government has say over what they do/ who they save. Under recent (2020-2024) tory government they would have been ordered to stop saving asylum seekers crossing the English channel in small boats. By being funded by donations only they are able to go to save everyone, and not be used as a political tool.

  • @brian.7966

    I hear the London RNLI are not happy because they are out of the limelight because they are not smuggling in the boat people.

    • @gregoryclark8217
      @gregoryclark8217 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The job of the RNLI is to save lives at sea. It does not matter what nationality or political situation the people they are saving are in, only that they are in danger. Besides, most small boats make it to the UK without assistance.
      It is disgusting that you are suggesting that the RNLI is engaged in people smuggling. The fault lies with the smugglers for the boats being too small and overloaded, and with the Conservative government for removing all legal ways for refugees to get to UK to claim asylum.
      Shame on you and your abhorrent opinions.

      Plenty of strong women out there. Also: They are three people on the boat. And then it has to do with the design of the boat.

      How sexist can you be ? There’s other members on board that will assist in pulling someone onboard it’s a team game, they all work together

      I am ex-Coast Guard (working on the same RIB type vessels here) and I was often the only woman on crew. Lifting someone into the RIB is a matter of technique, smart use of tools (various loops and lines, floating stretchers, etc) and positioning. It also depends on the victim’s size (obviously) as no one of either gender is lifting a 100 kg+ person by themselves. Trained, expert rescuers of any gender get the job done whereas an untrained amateur will fail every time. It’s the same in policing, firefighting, paramedicine, etc: work smarter, not harder.

    • @wcresponder
      @wcresponder 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      team work and technique.

    • @wcresponder
      @wcresponder 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MyopicMyotis While I agree 98% with you saying a untrained amateur will fail every time is incorrect and hurtful.
      First they are not an amateur if they have no training.
      Second if a strong person grabs a smaller person and hauls them in they succeeded on that account.
      Even in this video a bystander did the save, RNLI assisted and did medical follow up.
      Team approach.
      Revisit the work smarter aspect not more arrogant.
      Don't forget there have been times the professionals have fudged it up.(in all services)
