I used to have the same problem in Sweden (and I can tell you neither haloumi nor feta is a replacement :D). A couple of years ago Ica started to carry paneer from Arla. Looks like they sell it in Finland too.
That tip on paneer de-odorising is new to me.

In a pinch, queso freir can substitute quite well. But it’s also easy to make paneer
