  • A scale model build of the 1:72 Airfix P-40. Time for assembly and primer. Also we continue our dive into the history of the Curtiss P-40. Finished in the markings of Charles Older of the American Volunteer Group (AVG), famously known as the Flying Tigers.

The P-40F is my favorite variant. The Allison engine had a down-draft carburetor. That is why the intake was on top of the cowling. The Merlin engine had an up-draft carburetor. The intake had to be moved to the inside of the radiator cowling. The later model P-40's, starting with the "F", had only the rudder and vertical stab moved aft to correct a longitudinal stability problem. The remainder of the aft fuselage was not changed.

If i may ask, what got you out of the hobby for $13 years? What brought you back in? I built as a kid but they were terrible. Got into Dungeons and Dragons and that got me into painting miniatures. Been playing and painting for 39 years. Last October decided to get back into scale modeling. Scale modeling is much harder than building and painting miniatures lol

Life gets in the way. Had a kid, no space in a small apartment etc etc. Never intended to stay out for that long, always had a stash, but finally got the time and space to start back up.

I just started using sprue goo. It helps with gaps a lot

I've just got my first batch made up, haven't had a chance yet to use it.

@@buildinghistorymodels it worked pretty good on the project I'm working on right now a Hobby Boss Stuka. I would suggest using it as a base with AK acrylic putty on top. Filled in the seams without sanding
