Thanks to everyone that commented about the noise my toilet fan was making. I ended up taking the cover off to make sure the wires weren't caught under there. They were fine, but I happened to have the fan plugged in when I was replacing the cover and I realised that the noise started just as I fully tightened the cover screws. When I backed off on the screws a little, the noise stopped. So I'm guessing I overtightened the cover and it was somehow pressing on the fan inside. It now runs beautifully and all you can hear is a faint whirr of the air blowing.
Well done 👍 particularly on the slideout. Id unscrew that fan & check its balanced, & maybe add some electrical spray lube ... That would drive me nuts ... I don't think it's usually that noisy 🤔
I am always impressed with your woodworking skills, it always looks perfect. For the fan you could change it to a quieter one, but it sounds a bit like it might be rubbing on the wires inside the cover.
The fans they use are computer vent fans - these are propeller fans they do not perform with a resistance placed on them- I would try removing the stocking ( which I expect would quickly block up in any case) and use a mesh screen- not too fine- I expect it will make it much quieter

Oh okay thanks. It was a bit tricky getting the wires back in when I switched the fan over to the other side. I will check that out thanks for the tip

They sell silent fans in that size... Or rather, silent compared to that.
