After the days at the beach it was great to arrive in the hustling and bustling city of Medellin which as so much to offer. Things to do in Medellin range from free tours over parks and excursions to the transformed poorer neighborhoods to nightlife and tours to see the impressive panorama from El Penol.
From the city center to recommendable food places this video is meant to also help you find your way around and plan your stay in Medellin. All my tips can also be found on my website, this includes sights as well as restaurants and hotels in Medellin.
In the next episode we are going to explore the various sights in the capital Bogota where we also meet an old friend of ours from Hamburg.

- About Exploring Colombia -
Colombia, a country which many only know because of it’s violent past, has been on my list since I went to South America for my first long-term trip in 2012. 6 Years later and with 5 weeks to spend it was finally time to properly explore my country number 9 on the continent.
For the first part of the trip I’ll be traveling with my mate David to the historical city of Cartagena, some picturesque Carribean islands and to the city of Medellin where we get to learn about the violent past and the transformation of the country. After a few days in the capital Bogota I’ll be joined by my good friend Stefan to learn salsa and take on some outdoor adventures in Cali before heading up to Santa Marta where we checkout the most beautiful beaches, float down rivers and hike through the mountains.

I really did not see a lot of Muslims. Not saying there isn't a lot. Honestly I just don't know.
@@TrueWoo-bs1bl there is a small muslim community in MDE. Whereby the Imam indeed a Paisa himself. You will find some other muslim mostly from France, Africa and Colombian who converted to Islam. Also there's halal butcher and some halal restaurants @El Poblado. Overall, it was nice experience to live there.
Medellin is one of the best cities in Colombia
Love it. I went there in November and it was unforgettable the people the places and the view it make one of my best destination from my Country. Guatape is beautiful and the view gorgeous. I will be go back there as many times as can. I love it.

@@CapitanJusticia well, to be fair if he left Colombia before 2002, it is quite expectable that he is completely out of touch. I am from Colombia too and I left Colombia in 2011 so the country was already recovering by then. However, during my time living abroad, I have met people that left the country during the 80's and the 90's and, trust me, their vision of Colombia is completely out of place, they still think Colombia is the same as during the times of Pablo Escobar and they have the idea that the country has not changed or improved since the moment they left... I don't know, it is as if they think everything remains the same as when they left... quite sad they have that idea.

As a full-time travelling family we've seen a lot of different places all over the world. Medellin was one of our favourites, and probably the most beautiful city in South America. We just posted a video about all the great things to do with kids there. Love your recommendations too.

I stayed in la america neighborhood for my 2 month stay in medellin..i got really used to the city and lived in it almost like a local. Medellin was a great city and i am glad i went as it was my first time leaving ny country of Canada and my first vacation and i was alone and 17 years old when i left. I also celebrated my 18th birthday in medellin, i loved everything about that city from how convenient it was and beautiful to the lightning with no thunder in the sky during the night. It was great.
If you’re interested in visiting towns near Medellin besides Guatape, here are some more:
1. El retiro
2. Ríonegro
3. San Antonio de Pereira
4. Santa Fe de Antioquia
5. Santa Elena (this is where parque arvi is and besides amazing views and ecological walks, there’s also an attraction called mundo aventura where you course obstacles on the trees)
I made a too 5 but Medellin’s and Antioquia’s beauty never stops
Rionegro is not a village. It’s a small city with MORE than 128,153 inhabitants. 🤦🏼♂️

Great video! Just got back from Medellin. I LOVE COLOMBIA! Highly recommend anyone visit if you're on the fence!
I have been an expat in Medellin for over 3 years now. This video is excellent but as one might imagine, it only scratches the surface of this fascinating city. What many people don't realize is that it is only a 3 - 1/2 hour flight from Miami. There are also some easy flights from New Orleans, Houston and Phoenix. People ask me what is the best time of the year to visit. Well, weather wise it doesn't matter because it is like Springtime here year around. There are a couple of rainy months, but rarely does it rain for the entire day. For 10 days in late July and early August is the Feria de las Flores (The Flower Festival) and the city comes alive with music, street parties, parades and other great activities.
I had no idea that Medellin was such a beautiful city. I'd love to go there some day. Very good video Back-Packer Steve. Hope to see you one day.
Just came back last week from a visit. As a 64 year old, I was equally impressed with this city. Beautiful hotels have the best prices in Colombia. Great restaurants, superb metro and cable cars, and an impressive story of transformation and growth. Residents are justly proud of what they’ve accomplished. Don’t go to the rock; weekend traffic was insane and not worth the effort.

@@Ryan-ul7dy amazing! I spent 4 days in Medellin (went to Cartagena also), however… There were so many things to do that unfortunately I wasn’t able to go to Guatapé. Medellín is the most beautiful city I’ve been to so far, and its people are just kind, caring and joyful. Made a lot of friends there, definitely coming back after the pandemic.
I have a lot of friends in Australia from Colombia and they say it is hard to live there because it is quite poor. But this city looks so rich and vibrant to me. This looks like a great place to me. I wonder what it's like if you live there.

However, since the year 1997 it is not even among the 50 most dangerous cities in the world, several of them are in the United States, so the fear is over, there are many the foreigners who already tried it ... The biggest risk in Colombia is that you want to stay, for the friendly people, and the pleasant atmosphere
Nobody asked? Yes medellin was dangerous because of the police fighting pablo escobar. Then it dropped to almost none. There still are cocaine dealers, but its not as dangerous as escobar.
Actually USA has more dangerous cities than Colombia.

Hi, I love watching your vids and it's so informative. Just a suggestion, the music clips are louder than the video/voice audio so when hearing with Ear/headphones it's kinda painful. I have to put the volume down when the music plays which is kind of annoying.
