    uziyah - I watched this video a few weeks ago when my wife and I were considering the purchase of a 1973 GMC motorhome. We decided to buy it, and I just wanted to say that the enthusiasm that you show in this video was a big part of that decision for me. Thanks for sharing!

    Thank you. I love hearing this. We enjoy having it, although don't travel much. It's a nice place for others to stay when coming to visit, like our grand kids and such. Nice place to go when the 'grid' fails and we can still keep warm or cool. That's cool too. Thanks for sharing.

    The first time I saw a GMC motorhome I was smitten and the feeling never goes away. Maybe someone who wasn't alive back in the day can't fall in love the way we that were can, all I can say is that it's a true love that lasts!

    With so many motorhomes produced today being 40' or larger in length, 26' sounds ideal, either for a newbie like myself who has never driven a motorhome, a travelling businessman who needs something small enough for him to live in, or a veteran RVer, looking to downsize from the 40+ motorhome to something smaller. What do you think? 🙂

    ¡Hola Don Quixote! Loved your faithful Rocinante RV!! Such vintage elegance, much like yourself! You are a classy man Senor! You make a sweet couple.
    I have a 1997 Class C 22 ft Tioga Montara with a Ford E350 V10 engine. Its the right size for city driving, although higher and wider than your GMC.
    Your ceiling was an inspiration for me. I loved it! I think I will try out something similar in my RV. What kind of wood did you use on your ceiling? I wondered if you had any other ideas on materials for ceiling coverage?
    I would also love to know where you got that neat sliding step at the doorway? Looks like metal or stainless steel? I like the unique way it glides out sideways. Very elegant step.
    Howard, please make more videos of your GMC! I want to see the bedroom, bathroom, inside and outside cabinets in more detail. This is such a beautiful coach. Show us what you have done with it. Y'all take care now, y'hear?

    • @uziyah

      +Lass-in Angeles Hola ‘Lass in Angeles’. Thank you for your kind words so greatly appreciated. Everything you need, for the ceiling, can be found at Lowe’s. The wood is 3/8“X31/2“, tongue and grove cedar planking used for cedar lining closets. We chose the lighter, less aromatic cedar for our coach We used plenty of Liquid-Nails and stainless steel screws to secure to ceiling. We used oak as cross members. Cost: Around $350.00. The swing step is no longer being manufactured, as I understand. Might try Camping World for something like it for your coach. More videos not likely as we have parked our coach due to poor health and old age. Trying to keep it up and saving it for our kids. They once had one very much like yours which we enjoyed driving out to Idaho and back (from Tennessee). Married the lady you mentioned in Santa Monica almost 60 years ago. We SoCal people. ☺ Thank you again for your interest and kindness.

    Hiya Got a family of Five myself a 2 year old a 4 year old a 8 year old and a 6 month old anyway was wanting to get something like your motor home for the family so we can see something of the country any way what would you say would be a fair price on something like Rocinante comparable year comparable condition. I have no idea on prices just thought id ask someone that is more knowledgeable then myself, just trying to figure if this a far far off dream or something i could financially swing. Great Video and thanks for the tour she is a beauty

    • @uziyah
      @uziyah  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shane Cremeans Good on you Shane. I knew the dream when I was in your situation as well. Took me almost 50 years to get one.☺ While our 1978 Royale is the 'flag-ship' of GMC motor-homes, ours has not be cosmetically restored. I did spent a considerable amount of money upgrading things mechanical. The most noted appraiser, among the GMC clan, has appraised our coach to sell in the lower 20's and $19,500 for quick sale. Through the internet, you have the means to find a running 'fixer-upper' for $1,500 or so, while a complete, ground-up restoration can run as much as $65,000 to 70,000 and beyond. Please be aware, fixing up one of these coaches can be very expensive. Thanks for your interest. ☺

      Thank you for the Kind and quick reply lol yeah Im 29 and a fleet driver for aaa so low 20's is out of my league as far as that goes but thank you for the truthful response. at least i know where i have to shoot for lol hopefully one day ill have that kind of saveings put aside. life works in funny ways hopefully i can figure something out. Its tough everyone wants to do all the cool stuff for and with there kids but then the reality of finances kick in. But all we can do is keep on powering on lol anyway one day maybe rome was not built in a day. But anyway thanks for answering my questions for me . I had no idea about costs of the larger rvs like yours espically the older one s, and i do agree with what a lot of your viewers have said they just dont build them like the old ones, i mean from what i can see the fit and finish on your unit is just amazeing compared to the factory stamped out ones i see that are newer

    • @uziyah
      @uziyah  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sure one day you will own one. Our's is promised to one of our daughters and executor of our small estate. By the way, I ended my working career as an O/O of a Kenworth T-800, 1.5 million miles without a chargeable accident nor ticket. I did get a 'warning' ticket for driving my rig on the sidewalk up in Connecticut. They have not sense of humor up there. ☺

      Howard Nylander Thanks for a great, great video. I'm looking at getting an RV right now and am drawn to the GMC, but I was looking more for one in the 6-12K range, but learning and thinking that they will perhaps offer more fixer-upper needs than I'm willing or able to meet. Nevertheless, this is an outstanding motor home. Congratulations on taking such good care of yours.

      @uziyah  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you. Not as hard as it looks, most everything you need being found at Lowes, cedar closet reline area plus tonnes of Liquid Nails. Always start at the center and work out. We chose the less aromatic and lighter cedar planks (8 feet X 3"3/4 tongue and groove, ... or something in close proximity. I used to have a couple of videos of the progression. Thanks for your interest and kind words.

    Nice looking GMC. Did you restore it or buy it in that condition? About seven years ago my wife and I looked at a GMC that had been sitting for a long time but was priced to sell. Neat as it was, the fact that it would first be a restoration project made us decide to keep looking. Ended up with a 1979 31' Airstream trailer. Another cool classic, but one that was ready for camping. Maybe see you on the road sometime.

    Great video. Nice looking interior. One could almost live in it *all the time* if one wanted to. I've been interested in the GMC Motorhome of the 1970s. I find them more attractive than what's being sold today. Do you still have Rocinante? :)

      Howard Nylander I'm afraid I'm not in the market to buy a motorhome. It's a little out of my price range. However I've always liked these vintage GMC Motorhomes. They're better looking than anything else built during the time. :)

    • @jasoncarpp7742
      @jasoncarpp7742 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Howard Nylander It's too bad General Motors discontinued the Motorhome when they did. They look better than anything being sold today. And although I've always been skeptical about front-wheel drive on such a heavy vehicle, apparently it worked.

    • @uziyah

    • @jasoncarpp7742
      @jasoncarpp7742 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Howard Nylander You're welcome. What kind of engine is Rocinante powered by? I understand that throughout its production run, the GMC Motorhome was powered by two Oldsmobile Toronado engines, a 455 cu-in (7.5 litre) V8 engine and a 403 cu-in (6.6 litre) V8 engine. Which engine is this rig powered by? :)
