Personally I would have gone with the Battlestar Prometheus idea where a battlestar was dispatched on a scouting mission to find Kobal and clues of Earth 3 months before the Cylon attack. It combined the. Grittiness of the 2003 series with a bit of optimism similar to classic trek
Do what makes you happy. The original was done by Moore after his time with DS9 (which also featured war and political themes) and had to account for JO’s well documented hate of aliens 👽. Since he other spin offs were not nearly as successful and the last season did a lot to kill off demand, it is not a surprise they did not want to do the same. But CEOs are not fans or new ideas so even going back to the original would have had some issues even if the demand for a light “family friendly” (with less chariot of the Gods) storyline. I can see that maybe a version of the story using some elements of the Moore series and focusing on untouched parts of the original may be useful. Maybe the stealth fleet still has as around and had broken out with people not in a small fleet but a proper military fleet with civilian integration. Tap in to the old simple Psionics idea and make the setting after Earth is founded but elsewhere in the universe. Dining the others that are stuck in the wheel of time and moving the Cylons out of the main villain role to start and integrate them later. Most focus on the head characters also may be valuable as well. These are all areas you can go into but I am certain they will not touch anything in the major companies for at least another 10 years. SPOILERS FYI: One angle that could be explored is the group of Centurions who went their own way while the humans and Cylons went to Earth. This was supposedly thousands of years ago in our timeline. In the first Cylon battle, the Centurions made a cease-fire and went away for like 40 years. When they came back they had models that duplicated the look of humans. And that was in only 40 years. The story could be based around modern Centurions, the worlds they established with technology beyond modern humans' dreams.
I didnt even know they were thinking about a revamp with a new show. That was such a good series, the RD Moore version.
