Owen was probably abused as a child, socially anyway. His only friends were the puppets he made. The darkness inside is his need to be wanted, that’s the mirror image. The puppets need to be wanted and don’t like when they are put away for fear of not bringing brought back again. It’s why Owen won’t switch puppets, his creativity lies in their creation. He doesn’t want to be cast aside in favor of something “cheaper” or “easier.” His life wasn’t cheap or easy, it’s the only one he knew.
Everyone calls him a nut job. My assumption would be from being socially ostracized from not being understood. Going off of your points, that his only friends were puppets & his inner darkness, maybe that's why they want to play so much as well. They become twisted, like how his desire to be wanted became twisted. I might be a little off base here
It makes a lot of sense, since he cares for his puppets more then people. He wanted to share his creations to the world but only met in a hostile environment with people who kept complaining about his work. And how expensive the show cost. Which is why he's so desperate to save his show.

Tbh Nick Nack venting to Owen about Mortimer yelling at him it’s relatable for me (also with my current emotional distress) and that Nick is my favorite throughout the whole games
Honestly after that cassette tape I definitely believe that the puppets "became evil" because of Owen. He definitely didn't see the world or anything in it as positive but was able to keep it to himself or just never said anything ,like he had self control. The puppets obviously don't have self control and they were definitely brought to life and given the worst parts of Owens personality. Like I noticed that both Riley and Owen see the dark side of science and agree with views that aren't highly valued. Daisy with her temper and Owen cutting off people during phone calls when he didn't like what they said. Nick being the misunderstood artist and the punching bag for everyone around him. And mortimer being over controlling. Maybe the reason Owen lashes out at Mortimer more than the others (it could just be of the situation itself and I'm over analysing lmao) is because he sees himself in Mortimer and hates that he sort of acts like that to the people around him (Obviously in a more extreme way) That was just something I noticed and wanted to share :)
I imagine what will happen with the Harper is scout theory by the end of this, is that Mortimer will probably capture Harper and begin hollowing her out like the other puppets hosts, but Owen will have recited another spell or made alterations to the book that - while it won’t stop Harper from becoming a host - will preserve parts of her soul within the scout puppet, which could explain why they sound and behave similarly.
It wiped her memory too (if you remember, Scout would ask the player about what the "host world" was like), maybe within the spell that was done on purpose so she wouldn't remember what happened to her.

Because she calls the world outside The Host World meaning Owen might have done something to her memory or she was reborn and the spell reset her memories completely erasing everything she was.
That....leaves to implications. Like does that mean it's the same as the first game explaining the weird ending? The puzzles are actually a purgatory and escape is actually you dying? Maybe the puzzles are just a distraction to keep you there longer to drain your longer?
there's more junk and trash bags in the levels when you go back to them. Areas that were clean become more piled with junk and bags which we assume are filled with body parts, also the bound up bodies laying around. it really shows the passing of time, good little add ons.
I will say though, when the demo was released, and how Nick Nack would cath is, we’d get a death animation where he would stand, sp to speak, over us, and say something like, “You didn’t do it right father! You weren’t supposed to die until I got the chance to sing!” Wish that was still a apart of the game

Daisy is my favorite character. I don't know why, but I just love her. I don't like it when someone doesn't like a character I like, but I feel like not many people like Daisy. Mainly because of her voice.

Oh my god I just realized. The pages are probably how the place got set on fire. Because Owen keeps adding to it it ends up spreading, and a puppet studio definitely has a lot of flammable materials. That or Owen also finds out that the book being destroyed didn’t do anything and then decides to try and burn the studio cuz it’s the only other way he could think of. Maybe that’s also why Nicknack isn’t seen perhaps he got burned terribly and his ego looking at his now disfigured face made him want to hide away permanently or something. Just some thoughts

super horrorbro the painting ones are matching games where you have to match the correct paintings and i love that the entire thing has the puzzles that kids are given because it supposed to be a kids puppet show
I think the “Anyone see a right hand” note is in reference to the fact that the puppets are set on the right hands of their hosts.

I just remembered, Nick Nack wasn’t in th3 first game, and Dasiy got turned into a freak. Somehow, I bet Mortermre (I know that’s not how it’s spelled) did that to them, Rosco gets turned into a weird thing, and something happens to Riley’s mouth all before the first game
