    Lee Iacocca was once quoted, during an interview where the questioner asked him about being the father of the Mustang, “Am I the father of the Mustang? There are so many guys who claim to be the father of the Mustang, I’d hate to meet its mother.”.

    It may not be fast by today’s standards but the beautiful sounds that V8 makes at high revs seals the deal. I don’t care about Lucid or Tesla they will never replace the sound and smell of a high performance V8.

    I guess I am one of the few. This car does in fact excite me. I have had a few more expensive, quicker and more exclusive Mustangs than my current GT, but it is my favorite. I love the 94-98 body style. I live all 79-04 cars, but the 94-98 in particular are my favorite to look at.

    • @robmcgowan4034
      @robmcgowan4034 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I love the '94-'98 body style A LOT too. It really looked like a '90s version of the original Mustang. I always thought the '79-'86 Mustang never "looked" like a Mustang. It just didn't. However, it began to become more appealing starting in 1987, going until 1993; especially with aerodynamics most strongly seen in the GT. The '94 was the next logical step of a new version of the original. The lines and curves of this car just flow together perfectly. It's got the same 'perfect' look of the original really, also.
      I wish they would have kept this body style through 1999 before coming out with the forced "block" style models that followed through 2004. They also had the overblown wheel wells that followed on the bigger 2005-'09 models. The car (to me) was perfect again in 2010 and '11. Front, back, sides all at the same time. 2012 to the present, only like certain aspects. Definitely not the front ends!

    In 1998 I rode my bicycle to the Ford dealer to buy a Rio Red convertible Cobra. They had a green 1997 hard top that had come back with 2k miles. Yeah I bought the hardtop and had a blast with it. Problem was that it was just a Mustang to everyone else. When you're in your 20's you want to be noticed. Was a kool car and kool memories.

    I had two of them: a 1994 GT and a 1996 Cobra, #3711 of 7496. By today’s standards it’s pretty unspectacular, with the 2011+ V6 able to outgun it stock for stock, but after years of flexible flyer Fox cars the SN95 and especially the Cobra variant was much appreciated. I remember the V8 engine coming to life where the Windsor was done, pulling hard to 7000 rpm like a pitbull after a postman; fun times and nobody in the segment had that sound! The 5.0 Coyote GT ragtop sitting in my garage now owes a lot to that four valve Romeo Lincoln motor.

    • @bradwhite4827
      @bradwhite4827 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry but the V6 cars of even today will not run down these stock for stock.

    • @GeorgiaBoy1961
      @GeorgiaBoy1961 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, former 1996 GT owner here and current owner of a 2013 GT with the 5.0L Coyote. I love my current Mustang, but still lust after a hardtop 1996-1998 Cobra. There's just something about those cars. Even the GT which wasn't as powerful was still just a ton of fun, and it had that muscle-car attitude in spades, even if it couldn't always back it up in terms of performance. If I find one, I'll probably Pro-Charge it... but only if I can figure out a way not to have to alter the dash or instrument panel too much.
      The secret to getting the best of those modular 4.6L engines is to have a decent gearbox, and get higher up in the r.p.m. band. They pull OK once you get high-enough...

    If I had an extra $15,000 to $20,000 to invest, I would love to find a low-mileage version of this Ford Mustang Cobra. It hits the sweet spot with great looks and reminds me of a time when I was still (relatively) young and a player. It's probably a good thing I never owned one since I doubt I could resist the call of the wild and bury the speedo which would have likely put me into a wall. There's just something about the Mustang that makes me proud to be an American.

    I drove one of these for years. If you're buying one of these to actually drive it you need to switch to a 4:10 final drive immediately. The power band is in the upper revs and you need to get it there ASAP. Also, replace the stock shifter with a pro 5.0 or something like that to prevent bending shift forks.

    I had a terrible experience with a 1998 Mustang Cobra I purchased in 2015. Granted, I only paid 6k, but what happened was unforeseeable. The car ran really great at first, but sometimes it wouldn't accelerate as strong as it formerly had. One day I was cruising up the highway and the oil light began to flash. I immediately pulled off to the shoulder and shut the engine off. I waited a few minutes and checked the oil. All good. I restarted the vehicle and the oil light proceeded to flash. I drove two miles home below 32mph. I later drove the car to a nearby buddy's home to have him hook up a digital oil reader. Oil pressure fluctuated from 30-40psi while warming. Once warm oil pressure fluctuated from 0-20psi at idle. Due to the cheap gauges, I was unaware that there was an oil pressure issue. My engines lower end sustained damage. According to my mechanic buddy it had probably had issues for awhile, but the light did not indicate any issues because, according to him, it would only illuminate when the oil pressure would dip to consistent unseasonably low levels. He attributed the issue to an intermittent oil pump failure. Apparently, these cars are equipped with a cheap plastic oil pump from the factory and it is recommended to anyone buying one used to replace this pump. The interior was one of cheapest interiors I have ever seen. My dad's 99 Mustang GT was a step up.

    I think Mustangs of this era were popular because they were dirt-cheap used. But, I think most folks who really enjoyed driving sports-cars would lean toward Mazda, Honda, or Nissan... or hell, even an Isuzu Impulse (fantastic clutch in those things). Many of us, regrettably, had little faith in Detroit engineering at this point. Thanks for showing!

    Gained respect from a Mustang lover by saying "I can't even scratch the surface in one video on Mustangs". You are a real car guy! Edit: My question is: Would you pay to see Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov 2? XD, love seeing McGregor get his butt kicked. Edit 2: And for the record, this was the beginning of the Mustang Cobra, but also nearing the end, in my opinion; the '03-'04 Cobra's were the last of a dying breed, bottom-end of the engine could handle near 1000hp (not quite Mark 4 Supra status, but close enough to... shake a stick at?)... Siri, cancel my google and internet, thanks. Love this channel and your reviews, you cover everything as they should be covered! EDIT 3: Lost respect saying, "A Mustang isn't a sports car"... I will go out on a limb and assume you mean it's a muscle car, technically... Eff me, you're right, it's not a sports car, no matter how much someone wants it to be. Do a comparison of the Miata #vs 124Spyder by Fiat, would LOVE to see that!

Driver's seat doesn't go back far enough. I'm 5 foot 10 and it's not enough leg room with it all the way back. Everything else is great! It does make you want to wind it up. I can throw the back end out around any little turn and totally control the slide feathering the gas. It's a blast. At the end of the video when Bill was cruising and the speedo and the tac where pointing to the same degree that was 3rd gear.

    OK, finally got through it.
    On the plus side, we like the way it pulls the revs, not bad for the day. The missing exhaust note can easily be fixed.
    We like the gauge package and non-B.S. center stack, something that's missing from today's era of touch screens. We also really like that stereo system.
    We sure don't like the view of the windshield wipers from inside, or the plastic world found within. The looks of it, well... at the time it seemed not bad, but now we think it looks both aero and boxy at the same time.

      Me too! Aside from the 03-04 Cobras (which are ironically one of the best looking factory Mustangs to me) I HATED those new edges with a passion.

      I never warmed up to the rounded sculptured body of this version. However, I’d like to swap this interior into a 93’ Cobra clone and drop a Coyote into it. That’s my ultimate Fox body build

      Houseof No You should tell that to the insurance companies. Also have you never heard of the 2000 Mustang Cobra R? That is a purposely built track car with a ton of power. And if its not a sports car then I dont know what is.

    My first serious girl friend wanted a cobra, so we took a wrecked v6 convertible and added the hood and bumpers some dual exhaust and wheels. It was the same color combination as this one here so this video has brought back a few memories 😁

    Those taillights were new for 1998 or 97. The first SN95’s had horizontal taillights. The motors are actually hand built at the Romeo engine plant to this day.

      That was 1996 as he said in the video. That’s the easiest way to tell the 94/5 from the 96-98 cars. This being a 98 had a redesigned center console and the clock in the separate pod on top of the dash was removed.

    The first thing I noticed wrong with this Cobra is that the Cobra badges on the fenders are backwards, so at some point for some reason the originals were removed. But as far as the 96-98 Cobras go, I personally Love this body style.
    I bought a White Coupe with Black leather interior brand new in 1997 .And I still have my 97 Cobra.

    Not to bag on the 90's Mustangs that much but I wouldn't have really considered them "Muscle Cars". I had a 95 5.0L that looked and sounded nice but I would get my butt handed to me by Bonneville with a Supercharged 3800 V6. The best thing you could ever do to the 4.6Ls was to boost them with a super charger or if you're eager enough manually build a twin turbo kit for it.

    • @JasonJones-br3or
      @JasonJones-br3or 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes those 3800s were some of the best engines made at that time, maybe ever. The Olds 98 had one of those, and that thing was a driving-machine IMO, I loved driving that thing... the pep, the handling, the visibility, and very comfortable.

    11:55 Carroll sold the Cobra name to Ford for a dollar. One of the things he regretted most, aside from the loss of Ken Miles.
