I was at the Vatican on the morning of Christmas Eve 2016 and saw little old ladies begging and homeless people at the bottom of the Vatican steps. That’s all I needed to see. Holy schmoly. The Vatican has the resources to have a homeless shelter on their street. What they lack is empathy and compassion. WWJD?

I like to think of who Jesus was friends with; sinners, outcasts, the poor and lowly.
The ones he constantly said were talking the talk and not walking the walk per se, tended to be the Pharisees and Sadducees, those who taught and studied the laws within the Jewish faith. He basically told them that in their obsession with following the law, they were missing God’s main point of the greatest commandment; love God and love your neighbor as yourself. Fixating on a theological teaching of any kind over what a person reveals of their heart through their words and actions, seems to be what he would NOT want us to do. Just some food for thought :) interpret how you will!
To follow up… anyone saying that the Pope should not give political opinion obviously does not know the history of the Church and just how political things used to be. Pope Francis’ comments that never mention specific law makers and are just general food for thought statements are NOTHING in comparison! I say this in defense of the Catholic Church as it is today (although I would never force my religion on anyone), because we should understand and acknowledge the mistakes of the past (like how recent popes and priests have acknowledged abuses in the church OR them acknowledging that the Holy Wars Crusades were wrong). That’s the beautiful thing about the faith; time helps us see the error of our ways, and helps us learn from them. The Church is far from perfect, but in summary, this statement by Pope Francis is really not anything to get upset over. I’ve heard several priests give a hint at their political opinions in sermons and around election times before, in way more explicit ways, and have never been a fan of that. Hence why I don’t see how this statement by the Pope can be construed as overly political; he really didn’t tell ya who to vote for.

I would certainly take issue with the statement that he's the most respected man in the world. Some Catholics I know have less respect for him than they did for previous popes..... In some cases, a lot less.
As to which is the lesser evil, what he doesn't understand is that a great many people are already making their choices by that very metric. However, there is and will always be, substantial disagreement about which one is in fact, the lesser evil.
I have seen priests say that vote for the person who will help more people. That means Harris.

The Pope has a right to guide Catholics in voting. Many Catholic bishops and priests are guiding Catholics to vote according to their Catholic faith. This is not a political issue. This is a moral issue. Every choice we make on this earth, even in voting counts to where we spend eternity. It is quite simple. Abortion is a mortal sin. Illegal immigration is not. Therefore, we have to choose the lesser of 2 evils.
