I moved here on April 14th 1965, from N.Y., age 22. Rented an oceanfront apt. 12th Floor-S.E. corner. Oceanfrom.Seacoast Towers $200.00 mo. furn.(off-season rental to Nov.).
Nostalgia personified ! MB was a paradise! And so inexpensive. Wolfie's & Pumpernicks.99 breakfast. Gas was 30 cents a gallon.
Sweden House buffet lunch $1.25 and $2.10 dinner.
Now, I'm an 81 'ole timer in Bal Harbour. Enjoyed global traveling in the 60's-70's-80's when flying was pleasant and the dollar was king. Can't comprehend the ltd lifestyle choices for nowadays kids.
My parents moved from St. Louis Missouri to Miami in 1954. I was six years old and I grew up viewing Miami as it is depicted in this video. It was paradise, lovely, warm, crime free and just as it appears here. Too bad that time doesn't make things better. Miami will never be what it is in my memories or how it was back then. Thank you for posting this. It certainly brought back some very fond recollections..

Do you remember Lum's restaurant or Wolfie's? My parents lived in Miami, FLA. from the late 1940s till 1977 working for National Airlines. My dad loved Wolfie's.
Rode up and down Collins on my Schwinn 5 speed as a teen ‘69 - ‘72. Greynolds Park, 163rd st Shopping Center, Haulover, Dania Beach, Hallandale Beach. Born in Coral Gables 1957. Little did I know how lucky and free I was. Thank you for this.
Did the same…used to roll down the hill at Greynolds …Collected Coke bottles for the 25 cents to go to the movies on Saturday morning at 163st theatre.
Wish we could go back in time to these simpler times.

Great memories of when Miami Beach was Miami Beach and not full of concrete mountains of ugliness. I was there today and literally took me 1 hour to go from 96th and Collins to 163rd and Collins

Born at Mt. Saini Hospital, Ides Of March, 1971. Lived right on the beach. My grandfather owned the Starlight. TY for this.
Grew up there. At the time thought it was boring , but now I'd give anything to go back to the 60's.
Well DAMN! What happened to the music? An excellent video of Miami Beach in the most beautiful time. Wish that we could go back! I long for those days.
If I could recall. They were going to flag the sound in the US for copyright. Originally it was allowed w/o monetization but changes came down the line. I tried to re-layer stupid generic music and I ended up having issues, for some reason, I can't recall. Thanks for enjoying the scenery at least.

I grew up on Miami Beach in the 1950s through the 60s. I left for college in 1971. Thanks for the memories.

I was 16 months old, and I remember learning how to swim in the pool in THIS Beautiful 'Hotel' where my family used to go...
There was another Hotel next to ours called the White House Hotel...
Also, there was this GREAT Resturant 'WOLFIES' That had THE BEST CORNED BEEF SANDWICHES

Yes the very famous Wolfie's I think was located at around 20th Street and Collins Avenue. You're right about their corned beef sandwiches. They were the best. With their generous portions a person never left there hungry no matter what they ordered. Sadly the son who inherited it felt that it was not worth it to restore the restaurant as he felt it was worn out. The original structure remained intact with added upper floors and became a clothing store. I think that now it is Joe's a type of coffee shop, a far cry from Wolfie's in it's heyday.
I remember both Wolfies and Corkys . Both had a little bucket of kosher dill pickles on the table and corned beef and rye sandwiches to die for. Great times!
Sometimes, I would visit relatives on Miami Beach during summers between school years from the late-1950s through the early-1960s. The same year this was filmed, I lived with them on Bay Harbor Islands for over 2 years, attending junior high (now, middle) schools. The only thing I disliked about living in Miami Beach and in another smaller town in South Florida was not having any cool seasons, with high humidity year-round! This was the same year the real shooting war started for the U.S. in Vietnam (Mar. 8) when regular army units and Marines landed. Except for that, everything else was terrific in that time, with the pop music and culture at its best with crime rates low. So different than in 2020.
I was born on this beach in what was the Nautilus hotel. After the Second World War it became Mount Sinai hospital.

Lethal Yellowing disease killed all the tall coconut palms in the early 1970's.

Miami was much better then…Grew up around there…We used to ride our bikes everywhere with no fear…Stopped in yards and drank from the garden hoses…Ate any fruit from trees…It truly was paradise 🤩🌞🌊😎

The color is great -lived there until age 14 left summer of 1963 because my parents were tired of the hot humid summers and making a good wage was difficult for them I do have great memories- the beaches were wonderful A different era

I was there in 1970, missed the motel Row in Sunny Isles, Rascal House Restaurant all the shops and ice cream parlors
Miss those simpler Miami days got a parking ticket back then I was visiting from New York when I found out how much it was I think like 5 bucks I told the Jewish cop that’s cheap give a me another one

At 6:48 the curved hotel is the Fontainebleau where Jerry Lewis filmed his movie _The Bellboy_ in 1960.
Yeah. I saw that movie. It also had some good shots of a National Airlines DC 8 in their early 60s livery.
My parents had a condo in Ft Lauderdale. We would always drive down to Miami to eat at the Rascal House. So many great memories.
The beginning is filed from 96th st and Collins ave. The hotel that was demolished and an new ultra high end condo is going up designed by a renown architect.

there were some hotels in surfside in 65. i only see beachside homes at the beginning of the film.
Would be fun to compare the cost of living at the time. Hourly wages, cost of housing, restaurants etc.

I grew up in these exact areas on Collins Ave during that time before the Cubans arrived and made Miami and Miami Beach such a deSPICable place to live.

I know, right?! Everyone else on here is talking about how they "miss the good ol days and good ol Miami" and I'm like, what? You mean the days where people who looked like me were relegated to Virginia Key Beach and could only go to the fancy hotels like Fountainebleu if they worked there and could produce a work permit if questioned? Or the time when those pigs beat Arthur Mcduffie to death sending Liberty City and Overtown into days of strife and rioting? 🤔
