  • Greg has made a lot of different bushcraft shelters to help him survive in the wilderness, so let's revisit his Top 10 Survival Shelters, that could save your life! GOOD NEWS Gregheads, Greg just got back from an All New 30 Day Survival Challenge, keep an eye out for the First Episode, coming soon!
    Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

    This channel is very unique. One thing I have found with most popular youtube channels is that they are often very equipment and gear orientated. Better and better equipment, more and more of it, collapsible this and fold able that. Greg strips all that back and most of his videos are beautifully minimalist. Absolutely love it.

      Completely agree. Just being himself, no frills, very relaxing. I like the channel Mafu Conteh and the kilee boom boom band for similar reasons. Soul nourishing kora music.

      I agree! A lot of the tips in this video, as great as they are, more or less require dry building material. But in a real survival situation, chances are you got into that situation because of bad weather in the first place. And it's a lot harder to work in rain, including making a fire.

    I gotta ask.... do you believe it is actually safer, being up higher from that grizzly (in the last shelter)... or was it just a feeling of being safer (maybe a false sense of security, since bears can climb trees)? I did really enjoy watching this video, thanks for another great one : )

    • @CannibalChxrry
      @CannibalChxrry 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is safer. If you are on the ground or in a hammock close to the ground a grizzly can smell you and actually come up to you, if you are in a tree and it's sniffing around, it doesn't see you on the ground and makes it less of a chance of getting attacked. (Putting it short and sweet.)

    I love the 30-day challenge you do with Zack. Always interesting to watch camping up in the trees. Did you pick up your favorite saying I noticed is "To Be Honest With Yah." I guess you met many car salesmen buying your vehicles. They use that saying tons. My theory on it is never to trust anyone that always says " To Be Honest With You" It is what I taught my children growing up. They don't need to say it if they are used to being honest hahahahahah. Good to see you back to your comforts of home. You sure did look terrified and nervous in the advertisement for *The Alone show.*
    You were super jumpy sitting under the overhand of the cliff like something was going to jump down on you. Probably more bears there when you did the Alone show than you're used to. Great content Greg as always very interesting.

    Bears can climb trees. Still probably more safer then the best being able to get you from the ground,but if the bear goes up the tree you are trapped, or will have to jump down and hope not to DIE from that and get away.

    so i saw the show ... to help i can explain what happened ... starvation can and will hurt you permanently... when you go without the vitamin b12 and minerals the sheathing on your nerves (brain) wears out and starts to make you cry thats why starving people start freaking out (look into why they used pemicin)... it gives you anxiety and depression.. you do to much damage and its irreparable... you can only treat it........with minerals and b complexes' ... i know from experience ... this is where your post traumatic stress comes from its really has less to do with trauma but more starvation ... the more you starve the less trauma you can take .. hope this help bud... your awesome

I am worried about catching the only immediate shelter on fire and possibly harming the person, who, ostensibly, is already in a survival situation.

    I would get IN the rubbish bags like a sleeping bag...and lie on the moss intead of pulling it up. If you need two because you are tall, make a face hole in one so you can breathe and stay dry if it rains, pul te otger up like a sleeping bag. Done it Homeless. It works even in rain.
    Im in lreland though and its soggier here 😁

    The masters of outdoor survival would be the Native Indians. Not one individual but a thriving community. North America is rich with its survival history

    Just heard that Greg quit the series Alone Frozen without even starting, I guess the guys getting old but getting beaten by hippy Chicks that's very humiliating. The new series sucks anyway, I've noticed that Greg is looking more fragile and weak lately, I hope his health is ok his 58 now I think.

    I don’t know if he warned people about sleeping under rocks. Some rocks will fracture and even explode if you keep your fire too close…

    Isn't this the guy who, in the most recent "Alone", managed to lose his one pot on the beach and failed to properly deploy his tarp and spent the night in a miserable, wet sleeping bag? Same guy?

    I want to hear the Greg ovens story. Kind of like that biographical presentation fowler did. Start to finish (now)

    Good knowledge to have but it occurs to me that if all the followers of all these Bushcraft channels follow the examples in them they'd be no bush left to craft.

    Lots of moss where I live in Tasmania. I have slept on moss with a cut garbage bag on top, nice and soft, nice and dry.

    Wood stove. Close the damper to just a Crack the less oxygen your fire gets the slower the wood will burn. Hope that helps

    Sleeping under these rocks, doesn’t this guy worry about snakes?

    How much concern should I have about rocks - possibly saturated with moisture - exploding in the fire?

    • @davidlillecrapp2960
      @davidlillecrapp2960 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      River rocks often do that but I've never experienced any kind of dangerous explosion with them, they usually just break in half.

      Like the other reply says, that’s mainly a concern with river or lake rocks. I’ve actually put river rocks in a fire before and never had any explosions. After I heard it can happen, I stopped using river rocks. I don’t think it’s very likely that the rock overhang in this video will explode

    Curious if building spears in front of a shelter door could work against bears or any other predators? I haven't had a chance to try this out but it sounds like a great idea if nothing else it could be a good deterrent
