    I always loved the Pro Max colour balance- the Pro cameras looked a little warmer and washed out- however the details in the close-ups were where the Pro Cams shone! Their megapixels and larger sensor size, lens systems do the better job in bringing out details like eyelashes, makeup contours, etc. But kudos to Apple for coming so close with such a teensy camera system on a phone! The fact that its hard to tell is where the testament to Apple engineering is!

      I am mostly impressed by the color science and the edge detection of the iPhone. It got so much better in mere couple of years & its only gonna get better in a few more years close to perfection.
      I know people gonna say it’s impossible to get as good as a DLSR, but with computational photography and optimised sensors, its gonna get there eventually. Just look how far smartphone photography has come just in a few years. Even the current quality we are seeing, we thought it was impossible in the last 5 years or so.

    I think the Camera has the edge in most, if not all of those, but would never expect otherwise. The thing with the iPhone though, is it is far better than just a phone camera, this is a tool that you can use where a camera might not be allowed, or where you might not feel so safe using a big camera. The results are certainly good enough quality for most situations, even if not quite pro camera quality. The results are out of this world for something you will always have in your pocket.

  • @JonBushell
    @JonBushell 4 ปีที่แล้ว +42

    I think phone better as image quality is almost as good for 90% of people and the fact that it’s a phone first and the camera is one of its many uses. And the fact that everyone always has their phone with them and not always a camera. Just a lot easier and minimal Lightroom iOS editing makes an image that’s on your phone already and it’s ready to share out weighs the fact that a big pro camera is slightly better. The camera phone tech is way out pacing slr technology.

    • @satchrocks34
      @satchrocks34 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LeeZavitz This is an excellent analogy to make. I'm far from saying that phones take bad pictures or that portrait mode is bad. It's gonna keep getting better and better and high end digital cameras are gonna be much more niche products in the (not so distant) future. Or products that only enthusiasts really want to take advantage of.
      Even at this point, there's almost zero reason for the average person to buy a camera. Unless you want to learn about the craft or the process or want to do stuff like wildlife photography or some other sort of specific photography based hobby.
      The areas where phones still lack is in resolving fine detail (ie. the models skin and eyebrows, etc) and in the hyper HDR and sharpening they tend to apply to photos, as well as recreating the same perspective as a long focal length lens (ie. 135mm and above), especially for headshots or close ups.
      HOWEVER, if you're posting a pic at 1080 pixels or 1350 pixels (the max supported by insta), that fine detail isn't able to be resolved anyway. I'm all for smartphone cameras getting better! I use my smartphone a hell of a lot for day to day stuff.

    The blacks/shadows look more pleasing on the Sony. iPhone was raising them a bit too much with a purple tint to them. One thing that isn't mentioned here is shutter speed. With non-professionals (most subjects we shoot) they tend to move more than a model. The Sony will have the flexibility to produce a good photo more consistently where as the iPhone will have to make a sacrifice with ISO noise or lower shutter speed due it's limitations on light gathering. This will mean some photos might be a bit blurry or noisy. Good light and a good model will always produce a solid photo.

  • @DANNYBLVCK

    The problem is every one of these comparisons use a very expensive lens as well. Put a kit lens on the camera to even make it anywhere close to a comparison. The camera should always win but at least use a kit lens lol!!

    • @run-forrest-run
      @run-forrest-run 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Why is that a problem? Wasn't the goal of such comparison to see how a smartphone with all post-processing enhancements would stack up against the Sony A7Siii? I don't get why you'd like to put an expensive lens on the iPhone. You gonna carry that expensive lens with you everyday?
