Just wanted to finally say, that THIS is the reason I followed this channel. Real people with real emotions and reactions, and I'm not talking about crying. Every single video I watch with joy, because I see how people are actually interested in what they are reacting to and show real emotions. Really, keep It up guys. Your videos are enjoyable! Greetings from Latvia.
Lin Manuel Miranda has said in interviews its this thing at Disney Called the Alan Makin effect when you have so many good songs you nominate only one or 2 songs you nominate the Heart of your movie and they felt thats this song as everything cones. Bqck to the grandparents
As Colombian I can say that felt the same when I watched this scene because everthing tell a big trouble in our history, how families had to run away from the war and leave their home. My grandmother was a victim of that situation.
All of us Colombians have been touched by this conflict in one way or another. This movie was so beautiful and moving in so many ways. I watch it often to remind myself of the miracles in my own life.
Honestly I thought the Best Song category for the Oscars could’ve just been songs from Encanto this year, but this is the one that got nominated and I can’t argue with it. It’s even more emotional within the context of the story. I can understand how it can be effecting watching it on its own, but seriously within the greater story of Encanto it’s just on another level.
@@clairegittens3707 They can submit more (La La Land had 2 nominated a few years ago), but then they’d be competing against themselves for votes. They made the decision to submit just one - and I hope they win.
Honestly they would have nominated more (defenetly We don’t talk about Bruno) but the movie went into theaters in the beggining of November and they had to select songs for the nominations at that time, so they didn’t know, that song would be so popular. So they didn’t risk it becose of the voting system and went with the most emotional one. But honestly all the songs from Encanto should be nominated, so amazing with great meanings.
It just occurs to me how perfect using caterpillars into butterflies is for this metaphor. Caterpillars essentially decompose inside the cocoon before becoming butterflies. And this song also represents a point in the family where everything is at it’s worst and has to be rebuilt stronger. Actually, there are two lowest points happening… one in the past and one in the current story line.
at the cinema when they showed this scene I just wanted to look around to see the feelings of all the people who were looking for the movie. There was not a child or adult who was not crying, we all fully understood the feeling that the film showed us at that moment. Colombia has gone through so many painful moments with many families that have forcibly escaped from the violence that seeing how the grandmother escaped with her three children and knowing her whole story moved us a lot for the same thing that we as Colombians have seen here in the country for that, this scene along with that beautiful song is my favorite.
It really is like an other-worldly experience to take a step back and watch everyone crying with you, it's my favorite thing about going to the cinema. It's so magical.
I can never see this scene without crying ❤ the animation of Abuela screaming and crying is so realistic that even without the sound I felt the screams ugh this movie was amazing
the video shows true stories of families that were affected by violence. My grandparents were living in a beautiful farm near a river ,mountains with many animals. We used to spend time there for Christmas. Unfortunately, the guerrilla one day burnt part of the farm and my grandparents had to flee and move with us to the city. The movie reminded me of that situation so I cried a lot. The guerrilla stole our joy in that place but Thank God never stole the family we still are.
I'm so sorry to hear that it's still happening, I'm sorry it happened to your grandparents and to that place... just believe in whatever you deem as true (God, karma, higher powers) that it'll get them tenfold. They'll suffer for it
The song's lyrics are about two caterpillars in love, who always want to cling together, but have to part in order to form their own chrysalises, so they can come back together as butterflies.
Gracias Disney.

Great video reaction guys! This so a powerful and emotional song. Impossible not to cry when listening to it and much more when you put it in the context of the movie. Greetings from a Colombian living in the US.
Did you know that the song has a secret meaning with the number 3? The last line ends with an augmented cord. It is actually this: Fly off towards the future

Your reaction shows that you don't need to understand Spanish or being from Colombia to understand the song and the meaning of it. That is why the Oscar should have been for dos oruguitas.
This sounds like a mix of vallenato music and US pop and some cumbia nuances. Actually, it's a genre commercially called tropi-pop: you may want to listent to «Te mando flores», «La gota fría» (C. Vives' version), Vives&Shakira's «La bicicleta» (with reggaeton beats), «No te pido flores».
Mi recomendación miren la película con un colombiano porque le dará muchas curiosidades que solo nosotros de colombianos entendemos ... Saludos desde Colombia - Bogotá

There are some theories about the sad story of Abuela, it could take place during "La Violencia" (The Violence) a civil war in Colombia from 1948 to 1958
or "Guerra de los Mil Días" (War of 1000 days) an another civil war from 1889 to 1902 (During 1130 days exactly).
But that could be more recent too because a Colombiana's reactor has talked about it and that was super emotional for her.
