      Thanks! I thought so. And I'd only do this for preservation purposes.

    I had access to a laminating machine a few years back. I learned that the secret to proper lamination was the width of the plastic and the timing of the heating process. You never wanted anything to bubble. Bubbles on the edges is not good for longevity. Some of products are not as good as others. I did some newspaper concert bills, record store promo posters and a few other things like that just for displaying purposes. They came out really nice. That came out really nice Bill. If you want a record to look nice for your own personal collection that is a super idea. Thank you for sharing it~

      Thanks Rob! Pretty cool that you were able to laminate some of those things for preservation and display. This worked out pretty well for my purpose.

    What I love about vinyl is preserving the history of the record, and this is an excellent way to continue to save your records. Thanks for sharing

      Thanks. Yeah, preservation was the key for this one.

    Great idea William. A splendid idea as a matter of fact. Kudos.... Preservation for the Nation.

      Thanks Bobby! Yeah, this looks like it's going to work out nicely. I can always upgrade if I come across the album again but to have the music that is the main goal. 😀

    Good idea! Thank you for sharing. I also keep my records outside of the jacket.

      Thanks Chris. This is probably a one off thing for me unless I ever pick up another damaged jacket. But for what I intended it for this worked out great. I'm happy with the result.

    That's a good idea. And like you say can be removed.
    I have a couple of water damaged covers which I just keep in the plastic sleeve and tuck the vinyl in behind. It was only a cheap record and will have no sell on value so I'm not too fussed about it.

    • @TheVinylverse
      @TheVinylverse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that is what I was doing as well but the damage was so extreme that it continued to flake. This solves that problem. Thanks for watching.

    Very smart and good taste. The song that really got me into hardbop/mainstream jazz resides on this album. "That's all" was a standard which was done several times by Gene Harris with my favorite being the live version from Red Hot with Ray Brown accompanying him on bass. Hearing Harris perform that song really was a turning point for me.

      I'm not familiar with the Red Hot with Ray Brown version. I'll have to look that one up. Thanks for the recommendation!

    This was great. You do such an awesome job on record resto. It reminded me of your cleaning of your G to VG video. Great stuff. Love the patina. ✌🏼

      Thanks Mike. You really do feel connected to the records so I felt the need to fix the issue. I think this turned out quite well. It's probably a one off thing but if I ever come across another damaged jacket with a quality record I'll have this technique in my back pocket.

    Great idea. not sure I would do that on an album that was worth much though. Thanks for sharing.

    • @TheVinylverse
      @TheVinylverse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Roger. Yeah, I'd only do this to preserve an album jacket that is in rough shape to preserve it from deteriorating any further.

    I definitely wouldn’t have thought of that! A very creative idea to save the album jacket! Sad you can’t read the back anymore though! Jazz albums, especially Blue Notes, are nice reads! All the best!

    • @TheVinylverse
      @TheVinylverse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Mike. Yeah bummer that the it's badly damaged that you can't read most of it. But I'm definitely happy to have it as is for that price. If I come across a nicer copy for the right price I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade. But having the music is the most important. And this record is wonderful and plays great.

    Those old Blue Notes are workhorses like old Technics record players. Solid idea to save the jacket. Especially since you got the music for a sick deal.

    • @TheVinylverse
      @TheVinylverse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Dave. This definitely gave me piece of mind because I'd see the jacket flacks in the sleeve. This does the trick.

    I've just had my records water logged thanks to a down pour whilst I was away, they were between car and house under roofing, a beam might have trickled water onto 2 of the 8 bags of records, the covers were stuck together and black mould showing, I dried the covers open side up and neutralise the mould with white vinegar, fortunately the best records weren't damaged Roger Whitaker was some of the worst damaged

    • @TheVinylverse
      @TheVinylverse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ouch! Sorry to hear that. I hope you are able to salvage most of them.

  • @dixielandfarm

    I have a few, and I just leave them in the blake sleeve and put the record in its sleeve behind the cover so I am never pulling it from the outer sleeve (and the only time I use sleeves). I suppose you could have blake sleeved the cover and then put BOTH inside another cover (a non-blake sleeve).

    • @TheVinylverse
      @TheVinylverse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Kris, yeah, the multiple sleeve idea did cross my mind. This was a one off and I'm happy with the result. The jacket seems preserved now in its current state.

    Great tip for me! I will give it a try, I have a lot that this will help preserve! I have one that I saved that I sprayed it with a matte finish clear coat. It worked too! You solution is not actually doing anything to the record cover itself... you are a genius!

      Thanks Steve. I'm happy with the way it turned out and it is doing exactly what I wanted it.
