    I have watched SO MANY videos of people painting upholstery. This is BY FAR the BEST outcome of all!!! (even Annie Slone) This video makes me want to try it with a small chair I have. Thank you!

      I have tried many paints for this. The difference is. DIY paint is clay. It soaks in, dyes the fabric, not paint the fabric. I hope you have so much fun with your projects!

    Hi there! Just came across your tutorial. Amazing work! I found a beautiful settee about 4.5 ft long and 18" wide. In a soft "burlap like fabric." Will the 16oz can of the DIY paint do the job? As well as the patina? And should I use the sanding pad with the patina after it dries? I'm so excited to have this project! Thank you!

    • @VintageMakeoverswithMelanie
      @VintageMakeoverswithMelanie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes for sure with the sanding pad.use it while it’s drying and after... keep it soft
      As for how much paint you need.. I am not certain... what color is the fabric you are starting with? What color of DIY paint are you planning to use? Honestly I would just get a quart... no matter what. better safe then sorry.

    Hello! This video is amazing, short and sweet and gives you al the details for upholstery painting. I have a project that I’ve wanted to start for a while, but haven’t found any good information on how to do properly.
    I have a bus that ive converted into a camper, and it came with carpeted walls. I decided to keep them as they act as added insulation. The down side is that it is dark grey berber carpet. Do you think this method would still work with the loops?

I NEVER would’ve thought to paint upholstery but this just changes EVERYTHING! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I also would never have guess chalk paint was the product to use, why is that as opposed to other types of paint?

    • @VintageMakeoverswithMelanie
      @VintageMakeoverswithMelanie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As for DIY it is the lack of latex or acrylic... it allows you to die the fabric.. not paint it.. sk you end up with the same texture as you had before you painted

    • @MrsGetOverYourself
      @MrsGetOverYourself 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vintage Makeovers with Melanie oh I see... I’ve never used a chalk paint, not like yours anyway, just a chalkboard paint (different?)... My husband asked about the water spritz and what that does for the process (now that we know there’s no acrylic or latex we’re even more intrigued!)

    Hi, we have an antique chaise lounge in a cream fabric it’s so beautiful but as it’s aged the fabric looks more yellow. We want to make the tones cooler so are debating painting it like you have here. What paint would you suggest using? It was expensive so I am anxious about ruining it :(

      Hi, I only use DIY paint for fabric. You can find the paint and the liquid patina I used to seal the fabric here. Happy painting

    Hi Melanie! I just got a Koehler sectional in denim. It was upholstered in the denim 35 years ago and it's faded. Would such a soft, natural fabric as denim take the paint well? It needs an update.

    Have been binge watching every one doing upholstery painting. They say the color never comes off on clothes. No one uses patina few use wax. I donot want to use wax because I donot want leather feel. Going to check into patina.

    Can you use something like Floetrol as a medium to add to paint? I use it n mix in with my paints for my acrylic pouring. I’m just not sure if the Floetrol is more of a kind of sealant in a way or a mix to use for better coverage. Do I “have” to use chalk paint, if not what paints? Can I literally use interior wall paints (I have several spare tins of one colour hence I’m asking) and if so which exact paints...water based wall acrylic or ?
    I have a very sturdy 4 seater and 2 seater couch in a kind of dark sky/denim blue shade. Had it for 18 years and it’s very structurally sound it’s just that it’s faded in areas and had a few blotchy marks on it plus cat scratches on a couple of arms. I can’t get it recovered professionally as it’d be around 3 thousand in costs. May as well get new couches for under that,,,, sooooo I’m considering the paint job.
    This chalk paint every one talks about isn’t all that readily available in Perth West Australia where I live that I know of. I have seen some brand of chalk paint but it’s pretty expensive for small tins so I wondering is other regular acrylic or house wall paint will work. I see some put fabric softener in with water also, then sanding inbetween each coat, up to 4 coats or until it’s a decent coverage. I must admit I am very nervous to try it and I “will” try a section underneath first. Do you have fb and messenger as I may actually need to ask a few more things in detail with you...if that’s possible.
    I’m Lisa Saxon Toohey on fb messenger......it would really help me out a lot if you could message n chat to me about it. I’m an unemployed aged care occupational therapy assistant and have neck n back injuries so am finding it harder to find a job n keep it which means less dam $ and having to consider painting my couches. Lol....Thankyou...yours turned out just lovely
    Sorry for any typos,, I’m not gonna proof read and my iPad Pro touch screen sometimes plays up. 😜😩💙

    I hope this channel is still active. I have a beautiful antique bench with red velour fabric. Would I have to use a darker color to cover it or would a lighter color cover it with no bleed? For instance, if I used your white clay based paint over the red would I get a pink hue?

    Best video yet for recoloring furniture fabric! Question though...If you get a spot on the fabric, how do you go about cleaning it? Will any cleaning remove the sealer or color? I don't want to be stuck with a either a dirty or a faded spot especially since I want to do a yellow-ish color. Thank you! :)

      The fabric is sealed.... that being said... what do we do about anything we spill on fabric?
      Clean it up quick and you should be fine... could always spray fabric sealer... I am blank on what it’s called.. ? Shoot

    I am going to make some slip covers, but will try painting first with your method 🙂
    If it doesn't work out, I can always just do the slip covers.

    When considering a color, do you have to consider the original color of the fabric? Does to work more like a stain?
