I put soooooo many hours into this game, also had the nes max controller with the turbo a and b buttons ;) great times guys for all my young kids out there.
Videos like these, of games I didn't even know existed, are what I come to this channel for. It just warms my heart to know there are people that will spend so much time perfecting each frame of this, or Drake and Josh on GBA.
We sweated blood to have this gane done, specially due to all the math behind it's coding to represent the data accurately. You can't imagine how much were we pushing the NES here
I remember having this game here in Germany at 6 yo , not understanding a single word or what I was playing. But I was always the best at Fencing. Thanks for the memories
From 2:01 - 2:20 & 15:02 - 15:21 how'd you do the butterfly swim I remember only doin the swim the computer did, wuts the nes command for the butterfly stroke? Thx cheers
That was Butterfly actually. But swimming styles aside, Freestyle swimming you can do any stroke you want. It just so happens the fastest style that's used and we see in the races is the Front Crawl.
Bdun13 Technically yes (aside from the starting in the pool and swimming underwater thing from the back stroke). However the "Australian Crawl" that we know as the stroke used during freestyle is easily the fastest (I think there's some question that for very short distances, much less than in this gam the butterfly might be faster, and the backstroke is possibly faster for very long swims because it's less tiring). What I find most odd is that the game even offers an alternate choice, Maybe this is due to one button being each arm so the TAS .was done with simultaneous button presses?
The game allows you to switch to butterfly by holding 'up' when you start the race. It only changes the animation and has no impact on speed. It was used here mainly just to show that it exists.
"Freestyle" is the actual swimming style. Just like the butterfly, backstroke, or breaststroke. It doesn't mean you can use whatever swimming style you want. He would have been disqualified. I used to swim competitively.
Gnome Warlock - No, that’s incorrect. In the freestyle swimming event, you are allowed to swim any style, that’s why it is called “free” style. The front crawl is the fastest, though, which is why everyone swims that in freestyle events. The ways to get disqualified in a freestyle event are: to push off the bottom of the pool, pull yourself forward on the lane rope, swim underwater longer than 15 meters at start and each turn or interfere with another swimmer. (There might be another way that I’m forgetting right now). I’ve been a swim coach for 7 years.
In my experience if the goal is omitted then "any%" is usually assumed. This game in particular does have an ending, and the goal was to reach that ending as quickly as possible (as explained in the submission text here tasvideos.org/5257S.html).
there's three tiers in TAS. the Star, Vault, and Moon. the Moon tiers happen to be one targeting to achieve entertainment level or to achieve certain conditions like stated in tasvideos.org/Moons.html so i think % completion can goes into these categories. and while others mostly attempt on speed. this video tagged as Vault so it goes into record keeper category (tasvideos.org/Vault.html). anyway your comment make me learn more about TAS-ing so i thank you for that.
Hey great game for Nintendo I like that game too on the nes if ya like to see my bedroom take a look cool bedroom I created and some other cool stuff thumbs up for video😅
3:44 - Ash Ketchum, after years of being a Pokemon trainer, changed his name and became a sharpshooter.
Pikachu is not with him on this one, it may have been killed, so Ash is training under the name of M. Simpson to one day avenge Pikachu's murderers.
I put soooooo many hours into this game, also had the nes max controller with the turbo a and b buttons ;) great times guys for all my young kids out there.
One of my childhood best game evar ^^

Such a popular game! How would you not know it existed, we had tournaments on it as kids.
We sweated blood to have this gane done, specially due to all the math behind it's coding to represent the data accurately. You can't imagine how much were we pushing the NES here
Konami in their -slave- good times c:
Did you work on this game in the 80s?
Watching tas videos of sports games is oddly satisfying
This game was the number one method of destroying your original NES gamepad.
glimmer man olympic mode since 1988
glimmer man Until Silver Surfer came out...
This is one of those games where you really shouldn’t play without a turbo controller
Great graphics loved this game in 89 when I was 6 and barely knew how to play
especially the swimming part
I remember having this game here in Germany at 6 yo , not understanding a single word or what I was playing. But I was always the best at Fencing. Thanks for the memories

Probably a glitch. Never knew about it until now (september 2024) when I saw this video :)
It's been decades since I've seen someone using a typewriter. I'd bet that most kids today have probably never even seen one.
3:47 Maggie Simpson, 20 years after shooting Mr. Burns, decides to shoot less-alive things.

From 2:01 - 2:20 & 15:02 - 15:21 how'd you do the butterfly swim I remember only doin the swim the computer did, wuts the nes command for the butterfly stroke? Thx cheers
This needs a playaround.
The audience sounds like something you'd hear down in hell.
19:41 how did these hits knock him out like that? I’ve landed those and they just took off regular damage.
You have to be at the exact right distance from opponent.
This game was so awesome ! lol I still play it with my room mate
I never got into the High Dive point system. Hammer Throw on the other hand is easy (WR = 92m04cm if you know how to do it).

1:46 If you bump the enemy in the Basketball Court

I thought swimming was freestyle, dude doing only breaststroke, that's cheating. :p
That was Butterfly actually. But swimming styles aside, Freestyle swimming you can do any stroke you want. It just so happens the fastest style that's used and we see in the races is the Front Crawl.
Yes a pokemon
Konami is Sunsoft in the making for music 😨
Why was the American doing a butterfly stroke during freestyle swimming?
Patrick Wise can't they do anything they want to in freestyle

Most of these Olympic style games sucked but this one suprisrd me! The animation is seriously well done!
@3:48 Why is Ash Ketchum holding a shotgun?
Cause he's gotta shoot em all
Sound effects from blades of steel.

I Always thought the judge at the right side in taekwondo looked like some kind of walrus

Fucking hell it sounds like Blades of Steel.
Were the victorious endings in these games not something to strive for? Like a life achievement? 🤗
Full perfect scores for highdive... 2ez
Good memories ❤
Old MacDnald had a bow...
Shouldn't a valid speedrun require golds in every event? The label didn't specify is this was "any %".
Even if it doesn't have to there's something deeply unsatisfying about those bronze medals. :(
In my experience if the goal is omitted then "any%" is usually assumed. This game in particular does have an ending, and the goal was to reach that ending as quickly as possible (as explained in the submission text here tasvideos.org/5257S.html).
