Looking at getting an S20 Ultra purely for this setup. How far are we from wireless Video connections from portable devices to portable monitors? Can't wait!
I'm going to build a dex setup. I'm really considering this monitor, but I might pick a different keyboard and mouse. I like this monitor because it has the internal battery, I've seen so many setups with external batteries taped to the back of the monitor. also having my phone mounted to the monitor isn't really a concern for me. My plan for this is to have a light weight setup to travel to school with, my laptop is heavy and my charger is big and clunky. and then an extra monitor to use with my laptop at home for writing my research papers. I also see it as being really good for lesson planning after I graduate. With apps like google docs I will be able to work anywhere.
Dex has been around for some time. It did get a little better over time but I still don't get the advantage, even of a setup you show in this video. If I have to lug around an external screen, an keyboard and a mouse, I might as well just bring my MacBook and do proper work. Dex on the Samsung galaxy tab s4 on the other hand, is super useful. It literally changes your tablet into a laptop, just by using a keyboard cover. No need for an external screen and all you carry extra is a few centimeters in thickness of the keyboard cover.
DeX is awesome. I hope that some day Google will see this and implement a chrome os into android which works just as DeX does. I mean, all of them flagships out there do have good enough components and large enough storage to be able to replace laptops with just one portable display and keyboard.
Before seeing this video I've been wanting to make a setup like this, and dude that's so clean. I haven't checked the links so idk the prices but I'm hoping to find cheaper options as money is pretty tight unfortunately.
The Future should be like the phone will connect wirelessly so you can use use it. I our days we need to use laptop or pc but also checking our phone for message and sometime answer message. Nice video
I am really happy that Samsung picked up this vision. First theorised by the folks at Ubuntu if I am not mistaken, they had the idea of a phone running Ubuntu Touch plugging into peripherals and then running a desktop class version of Ubuntu. Then Microsoft picked it up with Windows Phone. It would have died there, but Samsung thought it to be a great idea and introduced DeX just around the time that Microsoft called time of death on Windows Phone. I actually hope that one day Google copies Samsung and makes it possible for Android phones plugged into peripherals to start running Chrome OS. That would be huge for those that already use Chrome OS in their daily lives and are happy with the somewhat underpowered Chromebooks that are everywhere now. They may be better served with their premium midranger/flagship smartphone and something like a NexDock or a setup in the office. The Snapdragon 865 has proven to be a powerful and very capable chipset, with greater performance than an Intel Celeron that would be in a midrange Chromebook, for example.
Outstanding setup Best Dex setup I have seen only one thing I am going to have to change is the tape for the phone mount I am going to use double locking tape so I can take the mount off for better travel other than that spot on
I just hook it up to my laptop, and bam! The only downside is that you can't use Netflix or Hulu, but if you connect your phone to a monitor, you'll be able to use those aforementioned apps in DeX mode. I assume the same applies to TVs.
I'm quite torn when it comes to setups like these: On the one hand, it really IS incredibly portable and the ability to use my Note as a makeshift-Desktop via Dex has its charme. On the other hand, that would mean for me to carry the external display with me, and if I do that I might just as well ditch the entire Dex mentality and take my X280 with me instead. And "just" carrying both the external screen AND my Laptop makes stuff just more complicated instead of more simple :/ Any ideas / things I might have missed?

Been eyeing this screen up since October when ETA Prime reviewed it. It's a bit pricey though. Maybe I'll consider it when I get my tax return. I absolutely love Samsung DeX. You forgot to mention something... How much runtime can you reasonably expect since you aren't using a battery pack or the walled charging system? Or is the charging requirement only if you're casting via HDMI? In that case, is the phone running solely from its own battery and the monitor is running on its own battery as well? Dude .... Samsung also has Galaxy Tab S6. No need to build anything. It's also included a Galaxy pen. Just buy keyboard cover + some USB-C hub as u needed then grab and go. Wireless headphone is recommended if needed (Because there are only 1 USB-C). Tab S6 also included 4 speakers with Dolby Atmos and its brilliant. (Dolby Atmos also work with headphone) My Setup is TAB S6 + Keyboard cover + Vention USB-C Hub 6 in 1 (1xHDMI, 1XNetwork LAN, 1xDC input, 3xUSB 3.0 Type-A) It works decently, I even replaced my laptop with this one for a month. The hub may be toasty but it works really well. I can connect my laptop to LAN, changing IP, SSH, remote desktop, draw a diagram, edit some sheets, play games or watch Netflix while open google chrome. Connect to the external monitor, mouse, keyboard and it practically an ultra-slim portable laptop for me. Battery life is also good, 7000 mAh is enough to run dex with an external monitor, mouse, keyboard, LAN for a day. If you charge while working, the battery will not reduce at all. If have any question, I'll try my best to answer you. I rlly reccomend, i did sold all mine PC/laptops and use S20 Ultra + NexDock 2 device (laptop build but only screen, battery and keyboard). So i got mine Exac PC setup wherewer i go. And at home i left mine 30" gaming screen with DEX stand so wejn i come home i got mine gaming station - atm League Of Legends roon super smoth in FULL SPEC - no lag/delay/low fps. Super, super practical!
Glad I found this channel! Your videos are so good!
We read the same books. I'm starting "You can't hurt me". Just finishing "Everything is Figureoutable" by Marie Forleo
That's a badass setup
I plan to make the same setup too! Can we take down notes on the touchscreen? What stylus pen is compatible with it? Thanks for the advise, Bro. More power to your channel! 💖
This is a great and practical set up depending how you look at it. I personally have this same set up with the Galaxy Note 10+ the screen is great mainly because its my computer screen through Dex or i can use the HDMI input for my SNES mini or PS4 If i want when i go to the lake with the family
You should check out the Asus portable monitor, it also has a built in battery and is touch screen. Been rocking it for a few months now
I was looking for a great solution for my Xbox game streaming service, this is perfect. granted the device is a little expensive but you can also turn it into a tv for use out side. thanks.
Hi what is your wallpaper?mind to share
Well, I use my Galaxy Tab S6 for Dex.
The Microsoft Arc Mouse is a pretty neat mouse to use with this setup.
Not the NexDock?
These custom setup contents are really interesting. Keep up the good work!
I have the DeX station and I'm not very happy that the Z Flip does not support it yet apparently it has the hardware such an expensive phone and no DeX have to carry on using my Note 8 as my computer is broken. Thanks for a great review 👍
Keep making these!
(Dolby Atmos also work with headphone)
My Setup is TAB S6 + Keyboard cover + Vention USB-C Hub 6 in 1 (1xHDMI, 1XNetwork LAN, 1xDC input, 3xUSB 3.0 Type-A)
It works decently, I even replaced my laptop with this one for a month.

Cool. Dex is super glitchy on my S9...too bad maybe when I upgrade
Can you do a dex settup including the new Smart monitor and the galaxy tab?
Good video. Do you connect the mouse with Bluetooth to the monitor or to the phone?
Yup!
Do you connect to the monitor or to the smartphone?
You connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth.👍🏾
