Earth is sturdy, air is flexible. So it was hard for airbenders to go head-one with earthbenders. Since air is invisible, it would be quite tough for earthbenders as well.
Bolin is basically the fandom when it comes to the OG characters! Jinora watching helplessly as Kai is blown out of the sky and falls to his death reminded me of Katara watching helplessly as Aang was electrocuted and fell to his death as well. Now you know what an airbending amateur looks like against a real airbending master. Tenzin not only was putting actual hits on Zaheer (Zaheer couldn't even touch him), but he was holding his own pretty well when it became a 4v1 thing. Zaheer has leverage against other fighters because no on is accustomed to fighting against airbending(Aang also had this advantage). When fighting against an actual airbending master, you can tell he was losing.
No, it was stated that Zaheer could kill masters even without his powers, and with them he killed several of them at the same time. People don't see to realize how powerful Tenzin really is, the title "master" doesn't mean nothing, his daughter a week later receive that title and she is a joke in front of his father and his grandfather at 12. Tenzin is a top tier and probably one of the strongest airbender in history, he is not just the average airbender master that where killed by the firebenders.
Leijona Oneiroi Monk Gyatso would be the best. Aang straight up calls him as such, and you see over a dozen fire nation skeletons around his own. Meaning he was able to take on several COMET ENHANCED firebenders by himself. Plus, while Zaheer is strong, Tenzin, Sokka, Zuko, and Tonraq all still best the four main Red Lotus members. He’s deadly, but he’s not unbeatable, as shown with that and this fight against Tenzin.
Bronze Abe ikr? Kya is one of my favorite fighters in this show because she’s the only one that still fights in the ATLA style. Everyone else in Korra fights in a much more MMA style which, while it makes sense, is much less visually interesting in my opinion
Did you guys forget that Zuko’s already related to an avatar. His Moms dad was Avatar Roku so he’s not only loyal to the avatar because of aang but because he was related to one.
ALI ALI He’s not loyal to the Avatar for something like blood relations. Zuko isn’t the type of person that would let ancestry define his relationship with a person. A huge part of his arc was his getting over that, in fact. He’s loyal to the Avatar because he knows what the Avatar represents and that’s something he believes in protecting whole heartedly.
In the past 2 weeks I've binged the entirety of your A:tLA reactions and all of the LoK episodes up to this point. I'm used to watching them one right after the other HOW THE HECK am I supposed to wait a WHOLE WEEK?!?!
Honestly, this episode really gives some perspective on how strong Tenzin is. We've seen these guys take down some of the best the bending world has to offer, and Tenzin held out longer than most, even getting ganged up on.

i mean they were both using actual air bending it's just zaheer was a novice when it came to using air bending. He had just received it where as tenzin has had it his whole life and trained in it everyday so it wasn't really a difference in airbending types but more in the knowledge of the fundementals of airbending itself that is shown here

Bumi couldn't see there was a protrusion under them. When he chose to not let Kya fall, he chose to die with her instead of saving himself. I don't know why but I think that's one underrated moment.

5:50 Mmhm. I recall one of the things the animation deserves and was given due praise for was the way they authentically depicted a teenage, female, muscular growing body with Korra. I mean, I already friggin' loved Korra's appearance, from the very first promotional images they showed of the show, when it was premiering. A (teenage), tastefully buff tomboy. I tend to like those female characters the most. Ones who lack a certain amount of what is considered feminine qualities and have a few that are considered masculine ones, instead. Of course, what is feminine or masculine is (becoming) entirely subjective. And that's a good thing. I mean, most probably wouldn't consider e.g.: a tomboyish, foul-mouthed, physically really strong, somewhat ripped, hot-tempered girl to be very feminine. But, then...of course, it depends on how we define our expectations of what's "feminine". In video-games, wherever I get the chance, I go for large swords or halberds with a female character. Now, a lot of people wouldn't consider a female character wielding large weapons like that to be feminine or even convincing or interesting.

I've always wondered why no one under the Queen took control of Ba Sing Se immediately after she fell and Zaheer left... Like, we've only seen her and the Dai Li but the Kingdom is enormous and she certainly had generals and military leadership under her. Someone right below her should have taken charge and stabilized the city and prepare to crown Wu. Instead we had all this chaos and Kuvira because plot i guess

She ís muscular' xD So great to see Iroh again :3 And what a beautiful scene between Korra and Zuko. The fight scene gives me such chills. And the slow pan away from Tenzin v. Red Lotus fight scared the crap out of me the first time I saw it. AND BRUH JK SIMMONS NEEDS ALL THE AWARDS. I love Tenzin.
Next to this and the fight at Zah Fu a few episodes back I don’t think any other battle keep me on the edge of my seat then this one with Tenzin and his siblings vs Zaheer and the Red Lotus.
There's always that one episode of each season, where shit hits the fan, and this episode is where shit REALLY hits the fan! It's great to see the reunion of Team Avatar, as well as the return of Iroh in this episode, but that's just a temporary calm before the shitstorm! The new Air Nation gets captured and held hostage, and the Red Lotus square off against Tenzin and his siblings! Tenzin was definitely the superior airbender, but he got jumped and overpowered. Also, I've seen many fans compare Kai to Jason Todd, but he even gets blown up in this episode! However, unlike Jason, Kai survived. Just a heads-up, the final two episodes of Book 3 will be mind-blowing, shocking, and earth-shattering!
I always wanted to see in the series or maybe in the comics a moment where Zuko sees his uncle on the spirit world, and when the camera/page goes back to him, he has his teenage body as he embraces Iroh
With how important the Airbender are to this season they wouldn’t kill Tenzin. The Red Lotus also doesn’t want to necessarily kill everyone either, they just want him as leverage probably for Korra. She’s their main target and Zaheer wouldn’t just kill Tenzin. That’s not his goal. Remember he believed himself to be just and spiritual so mindlessly killing Tenzin wouldn’t solve anything
Korra didn’t resonate with me super well until this episode And now Tenzin had me crying Recall what Aang said as the moon spirit died and all hope what lost, quite similar to what Tenzin said here. “No, it’s not over.” This whole fight was a battle for everything Aang worked for

5:50 Mmhm. I recall one of the things the animation deserves and was given due praise for was the way they authentically depicted a teenage, female, muscular growing body with Korra. I mean, I already friggin' loved Korra's appearance, from the very first promotional images they showed of the show, when it was premiering. A (teenage), tastefully buff tomboy. I tend to like those female characters the most. Ones who lack a certain amount of what is considered feminine qualities and have a few that are considered masculine ones, instead. Of course, what is feminine or masculine is (becoming) entirely subjective. And that's a good thing. I mean, most probably wouldn't consider e.g.: a tomboyish, foul-mouthed, physically really strong, somewhat ripped, hot-tempered girl to be very feminine. But, then...of course, it depends on how we define our expectations of what's "feminine". In video-games, wherever I get the chance, I go for large swords or halberds with a female character. Now, a lot of people wouldn't consider a female character wielding large weapons like that to be feminine or even convincing or interesting.

Tenzin had the edge on Zaheer before the rest of his gang intervened. It's also important to note that yes, while Bumi, Kaya, and Tenzin are Aang's kids, they are also kinda old. Had they been in their prime, the fight would have been much more even and they probably would have won
I mean they aren't that old. Tenzin is like in his early 50's like 51 or 52. Kya is probably mid 50's and Bumi is like 60. And we saw in ATLA being old doesn't really stop them from being badass

When I first saw Tenzin get hit by all three and the camera hid that scene, I legit thought they killed him and I was so terrified.
I've always wondered why no one under the Queen took control of Ba Sing Se immediately after she fell and Zaheer left... Like, we've only seen her and the Dai Li but the Kingdom is enormous and she certainly had generals and military leadership under her. Someone right below her should have taken charge and stabilized the city and prepare to crown Wu. Instead we had all this chaos and Kuvira because plot i guess

There's always that one episode of each season, where shit hits the fan, and this episode is where shit REALLY hits the fan!
It's great to see the reunion of Team Avatar, as well as the return of Iroh in this episode, but that's just a temporary calm before the shitstorm! The new Air Nation gets captured and held hostage, and the Red Lotus square off against Tenzin and his siblings! Tenzin was definitely the superior airbender, but he got jumped and overpowered. Also, I've seen many fans compare Kai to Jason Todd, but he even gets blown up in this episode! However, unlike Jason, Kai survived.
Just a heads-up, the final two episodes of Book 3 will be mind-blowing, shocking, and earth-shattering!

With how important the Airbender are to this season they wouldn’t kill Tenzin. The Red Lotus also doesn’t want to necessarily kill everyone either, they just want him as leverage probably for Korra. She’s their main target and Zaheer wouldn’t just kill Tenzin. That’s not his goal. Remember he believed himself to be just and spiritual so mindlessly killing Tenzin wouldn’t solve anything
