- In the this video I start the internal fit out of the shed house right up to completion. You will see Framing, Plumbing, electrical, insulation, plastering, kitchen build, tiling, painting and the floor being laid. Mostly in time lapse.
Make sure to watch to the very end to the walk through of the final product. over two years from conception to completion and some of the most stressful times of my life but also some of the most rewarding. It is known by a lot of names shouse, shome, barndominium but what ever you call it I think they are a great thing to live in. Enjoy
Thanks for watching. - บันเทิง
Mate you deserve a huge congratulations on the build. Love it, and I'm sure the Fam do too. All the best.
Thanks Scott. It was a slog but I got there in the end. Cheers 🍻
You should be so bloody proud of yourself mate. Such a huge accomplishment. Now the hard part's over and you can enjoy the fruits of your labour. Keep it up legend.
Thanks a lot mate. Comments like yours definitely make me feel good about what I have done. 🍻
Aaahhh that reassuring statement: “That ain’t going anywhere!” ❤
Especially seems none of them are load bearing. 👍
Mate, what a video. I think this is the first of your videos I've watched. You've done an absolute amazing job. This is my dream. Well done to you
Thank you very much. It’s great to get good feedback after how much stress it put me through.
Man what a legend you are I did floor adhesive tiles in 3 rooms so I appreciate your effort in doing the whole house
Cheers mate. Yeah bloody knees were killing me by the time I finished laying it.
Word of advice from a cabinetmaker……. Wait till everything in the bathroom is done. Tiles layed, grouted etc. not a great idea putting cabinets straight onto bedding. But your place still looks amazing! SHED LIFE DREAM !!
Yeah thanks mate. I just didn’t get the right advice at the time. Risk of being an owner builder with stuff all experience.
Great job, mate. Such a huge accomplishment. That's exactly what I've always wanted to do. I'm 64 now, and a bit past all the hard work it would take. But I honestly hope you and your family enjoy living there as much as I would have when I was younger. Cheers from Central Vic.
Thank you mate. It was a lot of work but the family love it so it was worth it. Thanks for checking it out. 🍻
@@AusAdventure All good. Cheers, mate.
The joint looks mint mate, be proud of that job! Congrats to you and the family 👌🍻
Thanks Joel. 🍻
Stunning mate
Cheers mate.
mate this was really impressive to watch, you should be really proud of yourself... 10/10
Cheers Scott. 🍻
Well done, mate. Stressful no doubt but I’m sure your family appreciates what you built for them.
It was very stressful but we are all happy now. Thanks for checking it out.
Great job , ya cant go wrong with Rob , luddy and Isaac
Yep. The boys did a great job.
Top Job Sir, After watching all your video, and reading your replies here you have excelled yourself ! You looked bloody tired towards the end, videos never show the sweat and tears. It's scenarios like yours and your families that deserve a FirstHomeBuildersGrant i reckon. 50K on completion of works and/or council fees/certs abolished to give you a pat on the back. ( no im not running for parliament lol ).. cheers From Sunny coast
Thanks mate. I was bloody tired by the end of it. I lost weight from the stress of it all too. But I’m happy with the end result. 🍻
Mate that was awesome and very inspiring you should be very proud
Thanks mate. Very stoked I did it.
Great content. I can remember as a kid (I’m 50) Dad straightening walls with a tomahawk by hand except back then framing was made with green hardwood so it made it extremely hard yakka I reckon he’d have loved an electric planer.
Great house.
Regards Duzzy
Thanks Duzzy. Yep the electric planner made it easy.
Great vids mate! Just for reference for next time you build 😉 Always place joinery on top of tiles! You don’t want to install joinery and then screed/bed around it as the moisture inside the bedding will cause the joinery to rot! It makes it very difficult to remove joinery when bedded and tiled around! Food for thought mate!
All the best 🤙🏼
Thanks for the tip! Wish my tiler gave me that advice.
This is 100% correct. that tile screed will be full of water in 2 months and that joinery will be buggered. Joinery is always installed after the tiling
@@AusAdventure Tilers are generally only good at one thing. Tiling. dont take building or joinery advice from a tiler... Just tiling and screeding advice.
Massive dream of mine one day. Good to see a real experience of going through it. Loved the videos mate. Well done and enjoy!
Thanks mate. Hope you get to have a crack at one day. 🍻
Congratulations, I thought that you would of made your bedroom and ensuite up on the mezzanine floor so 2 kids bedrooms are down below. Also I thought you would of put a doorway between the living area and the shed beside the sliding door, so you wouldn't have to walk outside on a freezing night or when it is pissing down. But great work achieving your dream.
There are a couple of reasons why there are no bed rooms up stairs. It meant a lot more cost to engineer the flooring to support it, she’d had to be higher and I needed up stairs for storage. I didn’t do the internal door as I have young kids and I want to be able to leave power tools and other dangerous stuff out without worrying that they will go in and play with it. The framing is set up so I can easily add a door which I may do when they are older. Everything is a compromise.
That was epic, thank you for sharing. Amazing and thought provoking build.
Glad you enjoyed it. 🍻
Awesome job Shannon, all came together in the end. Hope your doing well and enjoying the travelling!
Cheers Sammy. I did get there in the end. Trip is going well. Will catch up when we come back around. 🍻
Top effort mate, came up mint. Can be a stressful process but its all worth it in the end.
It was very stressful but that is starting to fade now. Cheers 🍻
Shed house, also known as Barndominium, I love these buildings, good on you mate.
Thanks mate.
I want to do the same thing one day. Go mortgage free. Love your work.
I ended up spending a lot more than I thought so unfortunately I still ended up with a mortgage but only a small one so hopefully won’t be long and that mortgage will be gone. More money for toys then. 😁
Ive done a few Ronno's. When the gyprock goes up you think you've broken its back, but thats when the real work starts. Well done to you. you should be proud of yourself. @@AusAdventure

Thanks for the video! Great job here I think you have done a great job. Beautiful area and beautiful home

Thank you, I will
Gold Coast and Good Tradies do not go together. I think almost all of the trade contacts i have are not local GC people, they have moved in from other cities. Currently going through a painful process of getting failed concrete stairs removed and refunded. Yay...
This looks awesome also mate, amazing work!
Thanks mate. Yeah it’s hard to find tradies that take pride in their work. I found some real good one’s and some very average one’s during my build. That’s life I suppose. Thanks for watching the vid.
Mate great job, well done. You've literally just completed my dream. I live in the UK and dream of doing this in Aus. Missing your fishing videos. Thanks for sharing and all the best in your new place.

top notch!
Thanks mate 🍻.
Love the shed and videos. Could you please do a video with break down of costs? Who did you go with for shed kit? I am keen to do this one day!
Thanks mate. It cost more than I thought it would that’s for sure. I’m on a trip around OZ for 12 months and don’t have all those details but just for the slab, shed and fit out it was around 200k. Being to class 1a the prices go up. As for the shed builder I won’t be recommending them to anyone. If you follow me on instagram send me a private message and u will tell you more if you wish.
Great build so far mate🤙🍻🇦🇺
Thanks 👍
Hey mate just come across your channel, great work on the Shed house/Wild man cave 😀
Hard work and doing most of it yourself is so satisfying, even tho it can be a long journey, I wouldn’t worry about the Vanity to much, it can be done either way as long as it’s all waterproof ed correctly, the benefits leaving everything out and tiling first is if you ever need to replace the vanity you can do so without destroying the floor etc, great job tho mate well done 👍🍻🍻
Thanks mate, appreciate the feedback. Thanks for watching the vid too. I’m hoping to turn the mezzanine into a real man cave with a bar and cinema at some point.
Well done. Great job. Been there myself, so I know it can be stressful, but you can be proud of the results.
Thanks Michael. I am proud of the results especially considering this is the first time I have undertaken a project like this.
Great job, you should be proud of it.
Thanks mate. Very proud.
Great location, you've done a good job 👏

Outstanding bro
its a credit to You
Cheers Rick. It’s good to get some positive feedback after some of the stress it caused me. Thanks for watching the vid.
Wonderfully thankyou
You are very welcome
Great job mate, I have been thinking of something Shousy myself. It’s a credit to ya.
Do consider some Solar & maybe a battery while the rebates are still ok as it can make a huge difference & also helps cool ur roof area with shading as an extra bonus, we noticed a huge difference in cooling over summer as it covers our main kitchen/living/lounge area which has an insulated Skillion roof over it.
I have 10 kw of grid tied solar in Hervey Bay area + 30kWh battery and another 5kwh Hybrid inverter I set up that could run the house for 3-4 days. 320ltr HWS on timer 3hrs/day with the original instant gas system used as a backup, 3 x split Aircon’s, 4 x TV’s, 4 x fridges/freezers, lights, water pump & Microwave use about 20%-30% of battery each day/night.
I charge the battery 100% from excess solar daily & get about $50/month back from power company, definitely worth considering, I got the cheapest on market at the time, they did a good job of installation & have not had an issue with it since installation 3.5 yrs ago.
Solar & installers can be dodgy, but just because you pay more, it doesn’t guarantee a better system or installer unfortunately. Havta check out ur other vids. Sub n like. Cheers
Thanks mate. Yeah putting solar up is on the to do list. I was thinking a 10kw system. 🍻
Awesome job man, I feel your pain regarding poor quality trade work and just having to do it yourself 😅
Thanks Warren
I've built hundreds of sheds contracting and I've seen some nice designs and colours, yours looks like it's ironstone or close to. Definitely a good choice of colour, one thing I will be doing when building my house shed is double wrapping the east and west side as well as the roof with that silver insulation and reason being is I've had my frozen water bottle single and double, let's just say the double wrap made my water stay frozen all day in 40 degree heat 🤷🏼♂️
The colour is monument. I really liked the darker colours. Yes that insulation makes a huge difference. Thanks for watching the vid. 🍻
No doubt all in hand, but just a few things to be mindful of.
As a habitable space you’d need:
Smoke alarm on the upper floor area
Maximum 125mm sphere to pass through any stair components and balustrade
Minimum -50mm step down to external paved surfaces from the main floor
Appears to be in a bushfire prone area so compliance with AS3959
Thanks for the tips. All that stuff is sorted. The bush fire compliance was a pain in the arse. Had to have extra flashings around the whole place so there were no gaps.
@@AusAdventure
Good luck with it all mate! 👍
Very nice mate! Probably best overall Aussie shed house video on TH-cam. I reckon I might do a similar build. Ball park cost?
Cheers mate. About $200k not including the driveway, retaining wall and getting power to the site.
@@AusAdventure That's great value. Thanks for that. Def gonna look into it.
I want that!

First time doing it,,,,far out mate I get analysis paralysis considering anything I don't understand,,,then pay a premium for some other bloke to do it 🤣 ughhh ,,,,weldone bud

Nice work can you come to New Zealand and build one for my mum she has land needs something like that cheers how much good surfing and 10 walk to beach
Pretty sure I’m not doing it again. Too stressful. Thanks for watching.
Really nice! Will the mezzanine develop as the Family gets older?
Thanks Andrew. Mez will turn into a man cave eventually 🍻
Well done you ! I'm wanting to do the same thing. I will go Solar as well. Huge Logistics as I'm moving over from New Zealand. Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated.
Hi. Finding reliable tradies who do quality work is probably my most important tip. It’s a lot less stressful when you have that. Good luck with your move.
@@AusAdventure Yes. Thank you. Enjoy your new home 👍
This is my first vid, Living my dream mate...Shed over house priority......
Thanks for watching it mate. Shed is the priority 👍
Hey mate, hopefully going to do a similar shed home. If it's ok to ask what would the same size shed cost fully installed. Love your work.
There are so many factors that determine the cost. On my site which was a difficult one it was $137k for the pad to be cut, slab and shed built. I guarantee it would be more now.
hey house shed looks prefect. this is exactly what i wanna build. any chance you could send a couple of the plans? save me alot of time and money give me a huge running start. no stress if you dont feel comfortable with it.
Hey mate thanks for watching. I’m travelling until the end of the year and don’t have the plans with me so can’t help ya right now. A lot of the plans are site specific anyway so probably wouldn’t be much help besides the basic floor plan.
@@AusAdventure hey mate hope your enjoying your travels and no stress, floor plan would have been more than enough even just to have a idea on size and heights. I have trouble looking at a plan and trying image how big that will be in actual size but I can see your shed and how well that thought though. Would you change anything after being in there a while?
Looks marvelous..👍 ..if i had the chance, I'd do the same, in a heartbeat.🤝👏
Cheers mate. 🍻
Great stuff ,any plans and sizes available for this build ? Bloody awesome 👌
Shed is 19x9 with the living area being 7x9. No plans to give out as it varies a little from the original. Thanks for watching the build.
He mate new sub.. can you go through the planning/design stage of the shed, how you go with approval and if it’s okay the cost.. love the shed and this is something I’d like to do here in central Queensland
That’s a lot of info you’re chasing and a lot of it is site specific. So what I went through might not apply to your build. I used a draftsman to do the floor plans etc for council in conjunction with the engineering plans from the shed builder. Then I used a certifier to get the building approval. Whole process is a nightmare. Getting the pad cut, shed built and fitout cost me around 200k.
great series mate, good job with it.. can i ask what the height of the shed is, floor to gutter? thanks
Cheers mate. 5m to the gutter. 6.2m to the apex of the roof.
Mate this is the first video I’ve watched. Awesome job. Until the last shot I assumed you were building on acreage. Seeing your neighbours houses. I’ve gotta ask, what do they think about your home?
Who cares what they think...it's his property, his life, living it the way they want. Rather this than a boring cooky cutter house they produce nowadays..
It is acreage but it’s all Koala habitat so each block has a dedicated building envelope. So this was the only location I could put it. The neighbours always knew something would be going there. I also kept the height down a little to try not block their view too much.
Can we have a shed tour 😀
When I get the garage all squared away I will.
love the video mate!! can I ask why you didnt use the upper level for your bedrooms?
Thanks mate. If bedrooms went upstairs it meant more engineering of the floor. Shed had to also be higher which adds more $. But most of all I wanted all that space for storage and maybe a future bar. 🍺
Just a quick question, what size is the sheet and the height? You did a great job cheers
Thanks mate. Shed is 19mx9m 5m high.
Brov, top build! Mate excuse if I may have missed it but what did you do with the space upstairs?
Cheers mate. Mostly storage but do have a tv area and maybe a bar one day.
Could you do a break down video of costs and how far the good old budget got blown by 😢, just about to undergo the same with a smbi (southern Moreton Bay island) build, great for fishing but a little more costly to do a build. Not looking forward to the extra grey hairs lol
It’s definitely a stressful process as an owner builder. Because of my site I had a lot of extra costs. It’s 250m from the road so just getting power up the hill cost 26k and I budgeted 15k. I will put a cost breakdown in the description of the video when I get a chance.
@@AusAdventuredo u have to pay rates on the land I want to do this
@@mikedavo4008of course he does.
Congratulations awesome effort Mate, what size shed is it?
19x9 mate.
Great build series mate, very inspirational. What was your budget for the build?
Thanks mate. I was hoping it was going to be about 200k all up but doing the driveway and getting power to the site was far more expensive than I anticipated. It ended up being in the vicinity of 300k. Not cheap but it’s a difficult site and I’m 250m from the road.
@@AusAdventure That’s not bad at all considering the site. Also taking into account your own labour, you have saved a lot of money. Well done.
great vid thanks . so is this going to be the family home or are you building a house near there ?
Plan is to one day build a house in front of the shed.
Awesome video! Just wondering if you are the "owner builder" or you got an actually builder to fit out the shed. Was it a lot of mucking around with the council? Or is that subject hush hush?
Yeah mate I did the owner builder course and did 90% of the fit out . It was all done through the council which is painful.
I was just wondering why you didn’t go the rooms on the second floor as you got the mezzanine floor, you could have had 3 decent rooms and a bathroom up there. And hello from Shailer Park.
I just wanted the space for storage. The shed would have had to be higher too and extra engineering of the floor. All of which adds $ to the build cost. I went to Shailer park high. 🍻
👌🏾
Ripper efforts brother
Thanks mate. 🍻
Build looks mint, What size is the shed mate?
19x9 mate.
Just wondering what state you live in? My husband and I want to build a shed house too but have had conflicting info on whether we can or cant in Qld? Also any advice on anything you would change with layout or size? Great vidoes, house looks amazing.
I’m in QLD on the Gold Coast. You can do it but they have to comply with the same standards as a house would. There are a couple of things I would change. If I did it again I would make the shed bigger. Also I should have put a dishwasher in the kitchen and I would have made the windows larger. 🍻
We're Goldy too! That's great news, thanks for the reply.
Great job👍 Can I ask the region your in. The location is👌
Gold Coast mate. Thanks for watching.
Well done. A real growth experience. Is the wife happy? They often aren't.
She is actually very happy. Her only regret is not asking for a dishwasher.
you are a lucky man.@@AusAdventure
@@AusAdventurehave kids do the dishes soon as they are old enough, its good for them even if they don’t agree, & it can free up some of ur time to do other stuff or chill.
@@AusAdventure Yeah, that design and layout of the cabinets doesn't leave any options for a fitting a conventional dishwasher! You could potentially fit a single Fisher and Paykel dish drawer under and to the left of the sink but you'd need to get creative with the cabinet front arrangements.
Hey mate random question but where did you get your tiles from? Or can you remember what they are called? I’m liking them for my kitchen we are doing atm cheers.
We got all the tiles from The Tile Market at Arundel on the Gold Coast.
Mate , How did you go with council certification ? And building code ? Would love to the same here in the VIC but think I would be rogered by council. Cheers 👍🥃🇦🇺
Yes it was difficult. Had to comply with the same regulations as a normal house. I am in a bushfire area too so there could not be a gap bigger than 2mm around the whole building so it has extra flashings everywhere. It went on and on. Pays to do your research on your local laws before undertaking anything like this. Thanks for watching 🍻
Great build. I did a similar owner build about 8 years ago. Was an exhausting year juggling work and building, but well worth it.
Question about your driveway. I also have a shared driveway with multiple easements that allow 5 properties to all access one shared concrete drive. According to the easement documents, we're all equally responsible for a 20% share of any maintenance/replacement costs for the driveway. Is there a reason that you and #73 didn't use the concrete driveway that the developer installed that runs all the way up to #71's front boundary line?
If you have a look at your easement documents, you will likely see that you and your 2 neighbours will each be responsible for 1/3 any maintenance costs of the entire driveway, even though it looks as if #71 is claiming exclusive use of the top 2/5 of the driveway. Might be worth digging up the documents from your solicitor, so that you know what you're responsible for, and what your access rights are.
Cheers its was hard work. The driveway is complicated. It definitely would have saved me some money if I could have used that section of the existing driveway but that section is the easement for 71 only. All of our blocks actually run to the street but the developers only put the one driveway in
@@AusAdventure As a surveyor, that doesn't make any sense. #71 can't stop you from using part of an easement that benefits your property.
Easement A over lot 93 should allow for lots 160 and 161 to use it for access. Easement B over your lot allows access over your land for lots 93 and 161, and Easement C should permit you and lot 93 to access that portion of Lot 161's land, because that's where all your services run.
I'd suggest having a closer look at your easement documents, so that you can see exactly what the easements are for. Even though #71 is currently claiming exclusive use of the top portion of the driveway, you and #73 will be liable for any repair of replacement of the concrete in the future.
Should have had alfresco kitchen connnecting it to the outdoor patio area where lounge room is .
We did consider that layout. I just wanted to keep all the plumbing close together and I didn’t want anyone walking through the lounge room while your watching tv.
Alfresco kitchen? In Australia it's called a BBQ.
im hearin ya, apprentice tradies
Sometimes it was only the apprentice that would turn up.
One question what was the rough cost of the whole shed and what you did in it I think it’s an interesting idea but the real question is the cost
About 200k mate. It was more for the driveway, getting power to the site and reports/council fees.
Waterproofing in the bathroom. Was it gray in colour.
Yeah I think so. 🍻
hey can you tell me where your T2 comes from it looks like timberlinks
Hi. Not sure what you mean. What’s T2.
