  • My buddy Joe's Jeep is getting some one ton upgrades! I stuff a couple of Dynatrac Hard Core Pro Rock 60/60 axles for the JK Wrangler under his Jeep and in this video will give you the rundown for the project and an overview of the parts installed.
    Here's a link to the axle kit:
    www.dynatrac.com/axle-assembl...
    For suspension we are going with the MetalCloak JK Wrangler 4.5" Lock-N-Load LongArm Compound kit. It's the very same kit I just installed on the AutoEdits Jeep and I LOVE IT!
    Here's a link to that installation video: • 4.5" Jeep Lift Kit How...
    And the link to the MetalCloak website:
    metalcloak.com/jk-wrangler-lo...
    This should end up being about a 5 part series as I break down the big components of the upgrades and impact of doing a one ton swap in my garage.
    Hope you enjoy and ask any questions you might have in the comments!
    Give me a follow over on instagram if you'd like...

    I have been running Teraflex Speedbumps on my 16’ JKU for a few years and I completely understand why your friend doesn’t want to get rid of them. They are amazing and will not limit “flex” or travel at all. My favorite feature is the progressive rate they have when Offroad at high speeds, you just can’t beat them.

      @@AutoEdits if you have the correct size speed bump for your suspension lift, they shouldn’t limit up travel at all. I absolutely love them on my JK. You might have do do some measuring to get them dialed in for this application, since it’s a hodgepodge of suspension components.

      I’ve been comparing the MetalCloak with the Clayton long arm kits, thx for all the detail on the installation!!! Did you look at the Clayton lift too, much different installs as the Clayton kit long arms connect to an upgraded cross member….. which also means you need to drop the tank. I guess my question is the rear drop brackets on the MetalCloak: do they hit, and have you noticed any limitations like articulation?

    It’s interesting to hear the negative reaction to the Sway Loc. I have been running one on my 16 for over a year. It has all of the flexibility advantages of the Currie anti rock- but when locked it rides with less sway than factory. I run a 180# tent on the daily, so this was a huge driver for me.... but on and off road performance is unlike any other. Hope you dig back into that one- especially for heavy rigs. Another item that I didn’t catch- no rear sway bar... I get the flexibility- but there are some really good videos showing the traction gains by having a rear trac bar.... I run a anti rock rear for this reason...

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Being honest, it seems clunky and stiff... it hits the body mounts on up travel and needing an air line for a sway bar disconnect is not solid logic for my Jeeping. But like I mentioned in the video... I'm willing to learn and your comment helps with that so THANKS! I'm going to suggest an ani rock for the rear for sure.

    I went from Rubicon Sway Bar to quick disconnect links to Antirock & finally SwayLoc, (manual version). It's the best attributes of all the aforementioned rolled into 1. Personally, I think it's a must have for anyone that wheels their daily driver. A couple of guys in the local Jeep Club recently swapped out their Antirocks for Teraflex's dual rate swaybar & they swear by it. I'm actually surprised Currie/Rock Jock hasn't manufacturered DRS of their own.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's not just a lot more for the axles by going with the D60's you need new brakes, wheels and steering upgrades ... so it's WAY more expensive. That's why on my Jeep I'm trying to sneak up on adding strength in the right spots without incurring all of those other expenses.

    My Teraflex lift kit came with those front bump stops (back ones are different on mine). These bump stops are designed to work specifically with the Teraflex springs. Since the Teraflex springs are linear rate springs, these bumps stops make the springs work like progressive springs. They are also adjustable with spacers and collars to work with your lift height. Since the springs you have installed are dual-rate, they will not work together as smoothly as the Teraflex setup is designed to work. They will most likely be very stiff and hard when bottoming out. I would probably adjust the bump stop by removing a spacer or two and then testing it. Those springs and those bump stops are not designed to work together.

    I did the pro rock 60s in my garage and it took 2.5 days not light however I used wheel dollies which was a big help. The axles say they have oil but mine were down 2 quarts each. I also took the time to prime and paint the break heat shields. Also the tuning fork up front in mine was causing an abs light. Pulled everything back apart and fond during the machining process 3 little pieces hadn’t been removed. There is supposed to be 52 holes. Also you will have to upgrade the master cylinder to a J8 which I was fortunate to get, they have been back ordered for some time now. Also the rim bore will need to be bigger 4.5” I went with the method which also means you will need the 9/16” spline lug nuts because of the tight bore in the wheel and when those are installed in the front no big deal however in the rear the lugs are a little bit longer and the will cut the ends off the lug nuts. Now when all done your jeep will be 1k heavier which is why I had motech install a 2020 LT1 with 10 speed. Weight is no longer an issue. Jeep’s are fun and very expensive as you know takes planning and a lot of saving. Hope this helps I’ve been watching you from the beginning 37” on a stock Jeep.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting... I was wondering how they expected the stock master cylinder to work with much larger calipers. Your Jeep sounds like the absolutely perfect specimen!
      I'm hoping not to find other little things wrong with the axles like you did.
      Thanks so much for the input... It is greatly appreciated!

    That SwayLoc dual rate swaybar rules! You get articulation without having to fully disconnect nor do you have to sacrifice body roll for flex like you get from something like an Antirock. Now the speed bumps...eh, not so much. It's a tough balancing act when you're running coil springs with shocks & air/hydro bumps which weren't tuned & valved for that coil springs rate.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is good to hear because it seems a bit unforgiving and stiff. Thanks for the info. I'll learn more about it for sure.

    • @Winchparts
      @Winchparts 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AutoEdits it also needs the rear sway bar to work correctly. The lower rate in the front works with the rear bar to provide balance to the chassis.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting... It doesn't seem to have much travel in the front either. It hits the body mount at barely any up travel... I can trim that stuff but it adds to the doubt in my mind about this component.

      Good spot. Yeah... I've located the rear axle into a better spot using the adjustable track bar from the metalcloak kit and moved the teraflex thingy on the drivers side over an inch to actually hit the bump stop. Hi Jason - I think you are in a very unique position to definitively answer a common question, because you have two Jeeps with the two axles in question. Dynatrac says their pro rock 60 has more ground clearance under the diff than a stock Dana 44. I would love it if you could confirm or bust that claim. Many potential buyers - like me - want that beef but don’t want to lose ground clearance. One of the selling points of after market manufacturers is that, unlike junk yard one tons, their product does not rob ground clearance. Can you measure and let us know the results? To me it makes little sense to add all of that cost and weight and tire to just end up with the same ground clearance as a Dana 44 and 37s.

    Great video! I have had those same axles with the 4.5 MC GC Mid-arm. I just put the DB3s on the back and am trying to decide on the Lock-n-Load or 4 arm long arm. Any issues with clearance or firmest with the Lock-n-Load? I found that standard banjo bolt fitting lines work well for the front brakes on the ProRock60.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only clearance issues I've had so far is that the new D60 won't work with the smitty built skid plate system that was on here. I haven't been able to test the lock n load in unlocked mode yet but for highway and around town it is phenomenal. Plus, the install is way easier than the 4 link.

    • @aarondykstra4205
      @aarondykstra4205 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great to know! It is an easier setup with the Lock-n-Load. Most likely I will go that route if it works well for you. I did put the PSC kit with big bore box and cooler. It steers so easily on the rocks, even with the 40” Nittos.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I completely agree that having the D60 upfront of my Jeep is way stronger but you are missing my larger point. Many of us don't have the resources to swap out not only axles but brakes, drivetrain parts, wheels and steering. The goal on my Jeep is to make it stronger than before but keep the costs down a bit by using components that work with existing systems on the Jeep. For less than what this project costs in just axles alone... I will have my Jeep completely upgraded and ready to rock! Does that make sense?

    Whats your thougts in using dana 44 housing with dana 60 ends (hybrid 44/60) and 40s

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally appreciate that type of thinking with this stuff! The tricky thing with the D44 is the diameter of the axle tubes. Without trussing (which I don't really want to do) they are just never going to be as strong as 3" plus diameter .5" wall D60 housing tubes. For my driving style, which is to try and be gentle on the drivetrain, that would be a really great option to keep weight down.

Super common issue now that I've done some research. Oil starts to seep down both sides of the bell housing, kinda looks like a rear main seal leak at first.
