What an amazing build! And a fun video to watch. I'm always thinking they end too soon. Thanks for letting us all live the things we can't/wish we could do through you. Some years ago I saw a concept vehicle for the military based on a 4door Wrangler. This build should get their attention again, though I'm sure they would put in a diesel/multi-fuel engine. Imagine StepChild with a couple of M2 .50 cals and 40mm grenade launchers! Clear the trails!

It's remarkable. Now, I don't claim to be a ground floor guy, though I did attempt to get that early membership with E3 Offroad (not sure how to know if i got membership or not), but I CAN say I've seen every video regarding the Stepchild. Binge-watching at times, even. It's remarkable that as of these last couple of videos it marks the point (as far as I've been keeping track) that you've officially started to replace/upgrade parts you've replaced/upgraded in the past. You now have new-new wheels and the new-new Dynatrac protection, and that's really awesome.

"Made in the USA" *sports TOKYO t-shirt* =) Hey Brit, you can't pick one trail to categorize Kev's wheeling. Kev is one of the smoothest wheelers I've seen. He usually finesses his way through obstacles and prevents a lot of damage. But.....he has beast mode now. So.... I may eat those words.

    • @boughtnotbuiltoffroad7784

The axles have arrived! You guys are BACK. I can hardly wait to see you guys back on the trail. I’m so excited!! 😍 Those front locking hubs will save you a little MPG while driving in 2wd on the road too since you won’t be spinning the front axle shafts and drive shaft with the wheels while you’re driving, less rolling resistance means better MPG.

Keeping it narrow is a good idea on tight east coast trails. I've had my PR 44/60 hybrid for 5-6 years now. Happy that I haven't broken any shafts or anything in the pumpkin but the bracketry seems a little weak. They really should have used 1/4". The XJ is getting 39.5" TSL's, so hopefully it can handle them with a 4.0 and Atlas.

The Prorock 80 is some serious BEEF! I can't wait to see this thing wheel. There is still a lot to button up before that can happen though. All those little things add up. :)
If I am honest, I was hoping you guys would give away the prorock 44. My dana 30 is doing great, but a dynatrac axle can obviously take a lot of abuse! There really is no cheap upgrade for an XJ dana 30. The TJ low pinion 44 is just a dana 30 with an 8.5" ring gear and still costs an arm and a leg. An aftermarket one is the only way to go but I don't have the $4k for one.
    Keep the videos coming. :)

  • @jimsather6892

With the stock Rubi axles, the rear 6 pack shocks typically relocate the lower bracket, allowing you to take a cutoff wheel to ~3" of unnecessary metal, gaining clearance. Was this figured in with the built-in XD80 brackets or was some effective travel lost with the rear 6 packs?

Need to drive 500 miles before hammering on it. Make sure shift points are correct, when hammering down, after break-in. If trans is not properly tuned when hammering down, you can shock the driveline and damage stuff. Had an issue with 6th gear dropping to 3rd shocking driveline.

Why is there not enough room that’s what most all 4x4’s had back in the day stock Cj’s fords Toyota and so on. Talking about the manual hubs, also I guess that’s your week point? What about running pucks don’t they have a solid peace in place of the locking hub. Or do you need that? Are the JL transfer cases running the front shaft even in 2wheel drive? Nice mods.
