In the intense electoral battle in West Bengal, the BJP is cementing its position to challenge the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress, which has been in power in the state for the last 15 years.
In this episode of Another Election Show, Newslaundry spoke to BJP West Bengal unit’s former president Dilip Ghosh about the political dynamics in the state, his controversial comments on the Election Commission of India and Mamata Banerjee, electoral bonds, and the “use” of the central agencies.
The incumbent MP from Medinipur said the Election Commission “is like an uncle” and that the Trinamool Congress should not go to it with complaints. “It’s an electoral battle. They should fight it in the electoral contest.”
Notably, the BJP secured 18 out of the 35 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal in the 2019 polls, when Ghosh helmed the party’s state affairs. He spoke about the shift in the BJP leadership, and why he was chosen to contest from the Bardhaman-Durgapur constituency this time.

If we love democracy in other parts of the India and wanted for change and throw out Modi/ Shah, then we should follow the same in Bengal by voting out similar autocratic, divisive TMC in Bengal and bring these guys. Everyone should be in check whether Modi in central or Mamta in Bengal.. the power should be with us, the voters.

Since you are Durgapur and Bardhhaman, if you have time, then please interview Siksha Ratna Prof. Sukriti Ghoshal, candidate of CPIM who is in this fight very much. He is one of the most eligible candidates to be an MP of the Indian Parliament. I am saying by fluke, CPIM gained lots of electoral ground in the last Panchayat election of 2023 in these two districts of Bardhhaman.

@@Shibaji_Kundu We will see who is going to contest with NOTA on 4th June. Better be awake from your dream. If you are a TMC supporter, we know how your party stole the panchayat poll. And if you are a BJP supporter, you should be ashamed of your party's decreased vote share from 38% to 22% in the panchayat poll with a simultaneous increase of Left+Congress vote share from 8% to 21%. In both Bardhhaman districts, CPIM alone pushed the BJP back to the 3rd position.
