+bunnyhead71 The album just got released in the wrong years, when teens used to listen Kayne Pest and actual thugs and lame POP artists of today take over radio stations. In the 1990 years her album would beat Hole band and Courtney Love. But grungers of the 1990 years got older and most of them don t even try to listen new songs because 99% of new songs of today suck ass. Beck won a grammy for the best album of the year in 2015 and Kayne Pest had to diss him , even BeyWHOREsey supported Kayne Pest.... the actual music industry is actually dead for people dislike lame thug life.
I heard this song a couple of times on the radio after it had been released and immediately fell in love with it. Unfortunately they never announced her name, so I had no clue who sang this great song. Quite a few years later I vaguely remembered this song and googled female musicians. Eventually I found a site with an alphabetical listing of female artists and was prepared to spend hours or even days finding the performer of this song. Luckily Melissa was listed as Auf Der Maur and very soon I had found my quest. I joyfully turned up the volume and tears welled my eyes. I felt like the happiest and luckiest man on earth.
I know how it feels, and it's like finding treasure! I've been able to find several songs from the pre internet era. It's so great that's easy nowadays but on the other hand we experience music very differently
I had no idea who she was when I saw her open for god-knows-who a way back god-knows-when. She's the only thing I remember about the show. I was like inches away from the stage in some tiny venue.
Elements of grunge and hard rock with a soft refinement and thoughtful gentle energy juxtaposed with it. She is so wonderful and overrated. The best part of Hole. The real talent.
I love her voice. She made Hole so much more polished. I hope she continues her solo career, her sound is so unique. Hard rockin' & delicate at the same time. Awesome!
She sings at the beginning....I can even repeat that melody, I would sing it for you if you could hear me 😅 that's far from screaming.. Just sayin'.. with respect Sir ❤️
so awesome ! I love this album, I was lucky enough to meet Melissa, when she was supporting APC in Nottingham and I took her to a local CD store (which has since closed) there was a girl in there wearing a Celebrity skin t-shirt which had MADM"s face on it .. and she didn't recognise her. she was so lovely to me, and I really shaped the way I've always interacted with people who like my band.
I remember hearing this song on MTV2 or something when it first came out and it was one of those songs that just blew me away. So great to have found it again!
I remember this, never forgot it. Now as a full functional adult (I hope) the video and music still amazes me. One of of the last things aired when rock and cool stuff were in TV music channels mainstrem.
@Gene Bone Ok, understand. But thats her inspiration. She didn't copy etc. The final result of this song was great. Like it. But it's interesting the amount of people you said they used to produce (and to get the rythm). With Melissa and many many out there.
Still listening to in 2019 and will never stop listening. One of the best songs i have ever heard, my ipod doesnt get unplugged unless this song is on it.
That was the best alt-rock record in 2003-2004, hands down. I remember a Smashing Pumpkins concert in Rome (2000), she played for them at that time...we were exactly under the stage, she was in miniskirt, playing the bass like a dominatrix...we were all males in the group and we were drooling under her leather boots. She had sensuality, skill and a superb class. Courtney Butthole can't hold a candle for her.
I saw these supporting A Perfect Circle in London about 10 years ago. They were really good. What was cool too was that she cast a massive silhouette on the wall as she played, looked awesome.
So I have been listening to this endlessly, I don't know how many times already. She and Anneke Van Giersbergen are my spirit animals I'm soo happy I discovered this song!!!
Feel me sneaking around again Am I hangin' around again? Can't you see? That my heart lies, my heart lies to you I followed the waves to you, I cannot see it through But my heart lies to you You'll never have me true (I lie) Please don't, please don't make amends (Please don't, please don't make amends) See me, see me slip again (See me, see me slip again) Break my heart The cards of fate Seal the deal My heart lies, my heart lies to you I followed the waves to you, I cannot see it through But my heart lies to you You'll never have me true I followed the waves to you, I cannot see it through But my heart lies to you I'll never stay with you I followed the waves to you, I cannot see it through But my heart lies to you You'll Never have me true Between my fire sighs and my burning eyes My heart burns wildly in his eyes He's just a drunken, gambling man Dealing with the hand of desire's thing I'm gonna shuffle his deck clean I'm gonna shuffle his deck clean
I always thought it was "I counted to see it through", because the point was that she thought originally she was going to..... "BUT... my heart lies to you" (more clear at 2:23)
I only tonight discovered this song on the local radio going home from work. I live in a town of 1,700 people in the Rockies. The local radio station is wild with their eclectic playlists. lol
And the production on this record is just so good. 😳 All rock records should crawl, beg, and binge to sound this rich and crisp... and with the genuine feel of a monster live show. Nothing trips over each other, everything has space to breathe and stretch, and the vocals are clear and dynamically layered. It is just so good... warm and bright, super heavy but open airy, stitched mathematically tight and cascading avalanche loose... the record is recorded ,mixed and mastered so fkn well. So good... and the songs crush it, also. Jeez
I've never listined to this in 16 years, and i love it. I'm exactly the audience for this music. Can't believe it never reached me in any way. Criminally under promoted.
I remember this coming out, I first saw it on some talk show. I remember later on thinking “how is this song not more popular.” I’m more a hip hop guy and I thought this. Songs dope.
Oh my dooog!
wow I never knew she went solo. I always thought her voice was amazing when she did the backing vocals in Hole, and I guess I was right because this is amazing!
that sound is heavier than any metal genre i've ever heared. (besides the obvious fact that this is a way better song in terms of emotional depth, intensity and creativity in songwriting than any metal band would ever come up with). it's perfect!
Well I don't think too many Metalheads are into this kinda music. This belongs clearly in the alternative/grunge/post punk category. So people listening to this are more likely to be listening to Iggy, QOTSA or Sonic Youth. But yeah, pretty heavy stuff from Melissa here, such a great track and d performer.
Criminally underrated album.

+Silent Scott Wolf Yep, that's why she quits the music inds. Even so, the whole album was great back then...
bunnyhead71 that's right.
Agreed 110%!! I'm amazed that she didn't get huge! Gorgeous, sexy, amazing eyes, incredible bassist and vocalist! Hopefully she'll make a comeback!!!
A Perfect Circle then this... music went a different way
2024 and here again!❤

Every rock, grunge, or alternative rock music lover falls in love, at least once, with Melissa Auf Der Maur.
I had no idea who she was when I saw her open for god-knows-who a way back god-knows-when. She's the only thing I remember about the show. I was like inches away from the stage in some tiny venue.
How could you not fall in love with her after seeing the Celebrity Skin video?
underrated masterpiece after all these years still sound great!!!
Elements of grunge and hard rock with a soft refinement and thoughtful gentle energy juxtaposed with it. She is so wonderful and overrated. The best part of Hole. The real talent.
*Underrated.
I love her voice. She made Hole so much more polished. I hope she continues her solo career, her sound is so unique. Hard rockin' & delicate at the same time. Awesome!
The Hole songs got better when Corgan got involved as well
Hole was from Cali she is from Canada
Paul Joseph V. Okaaayyy....you can be from Canada and play in a band from California. 😕
@@mrsmadtux u can but it rarely happens. They think Heart is from Canada n Econoline Crush are but they not oddly. Its confusing.
Me too!
16 years old song, still hits massively. I love it!
15 years have passed and i still love her and this freaking song!and her scream at the beginning is so epic!
Song has to be almost 20 yrs old
She sings at the beginning....I can even repeat that melody, I would sing it for you if you could hear me 😅 that's far from screaming.. Just sayin'.. with respect Sir ❤️
Still as great as I remember it! I saw Melissa performing live in 2004 I think it was, and it was such an unforgettable experience!
Can't believe it's been 15 years. This song is incredibly beautiful and rocks as hard today as it did when it came out. Amazing guitarist ❤️
15? It's been 20 this year!
The song was uploaded 15 yrs ago but its alot older. 2003/2004.
A Melissa é uma força da natureza.
Most beautiful Bass Player of all times (sorry, Lemmy 😊), Melissa , you really got it all !!! Forever !!!

Goddess of Grunge - Love to Melissa ❤
I met her twice and she is SO nice! A great person full of talent! :)

I met her once too-she opened for H.I.M. & was signing autographs after she played. She was really nice. Very talented lady too.

Been 8 years since I last listened to this one! Gotta add it back to my playlist.
I can't believe I actually remembered this song. The "my heart lies, my heart lies to you..." was playing in my head for DAYS. I'm so proud of myself.
Stunning track! Love the way Melissa delivers the final line: "I'm gonna shuffle his deck clean..."
Took me a while to figure it's "deck" she's saying at the end... :)))
A-list bass player, man or woman! She complemented Courtney Love so well in Hole with her backing vocals, knarly bass riffs, and stage presence!
Vendo em 2024! Saudades, me lembro da estréia na saudosa MTV. AMO música e clipe!❤
watching in 2017
still my favourite song of her so far
Monalisa Cavalcante me too ;)
A plethora of great memories associated with this record and era. Such an underrated album.
man this blew my mind when I was kid...

I just went on the wildest journey trying to remember Auf Der Maur. Glad it finally hit me. 🤘🤘
I was completely blown away from the first time I heard this single, honestly, a 10 album.

Same here. I'm as entranced every time I listen now as I was when it came out in 2004. Truly one of the greatest songs ever made.
Awn Melissa! One of my idols, since my 15 years old...
She was the one responsible for making me want to become a bassist!
She is the sister i've never had...great song, Melissa :)
I love this album and I like a lot this song.
Homme's Kyuss esque guitar adds so much, love this collab !
Música preferida 2000/2010, composição, performance e produção perfeitos..!
What a brilliant song, how on earth did I miss this band back then ?? Bought the cd off of Amazon just there, just had to.
