@@franciscopineda2594 i don't mind that as long as i get a few sandwiches and teas for that then i'm glad. Here in Copenhagen where i live, to eat out for 2 people is minimum 29 pounds, that's quite a lot considering that's not even with drink, on top of that if u want a drink u pay anything between 3.47-4.67 pounds per person. That's not even a classy restaurant that's just a standard asian restaurant here in the city. it's crazy expensive here. Heck even a danish restaurant here will set u back 7 pounds and that's for a sandwich for 1 sandwich only, if u want 2 u pay 14 pounds and that's not with drink either that's another 3.47-4.67 pounds as i mentioned earlier. It ain't cheap here either can tell u that.

For those of us who can remember, we very nearly lost this building altogether......there was a period of decline. In 50s and the 60s when I worked nearby, it was in a sorry state. It was used as British Rail offices leased by the BBC who owned the building then. The bombed part had not been rebuilt. Thank goodness it was rescued with megacash and reopened in splendour.

Several years ago my sister and I went to high tea at the Drake hotel in Chicago which was a total delight. Delicious sandwiches and sweets in luxurious surroundings that included music by a woman playing the harp! I highly recommend it if you get a chance.
FYI: Americans use the term high tea for what the British call afternoon tea. Our - American - use is actually incorrect in that we think “high tea” sounds more formal and elaborate than afternoon tea but the background for the terms is this: afternoon tea was started by an Aristocrat who was hungry long before the evening meal would be served so she started the tradition of eating small sandwiches and sweets in the late afternoon to tide her over. High tea was the term used for the working class meal that they ate at the end of a long day of work. The name came about because of the height of their chairs and the food was a regular meal. Since so many Americans go to London (at least before Covid!), and look for high tea, there are many places that use that term knowing that’s what Americans are looking for.

My first afternoon tea was at the Allis in chicago. It was fantastic. I've since gone to some in philly, and DC as well, and some smaller places near my and my hometown. Always a splendid experience- before i book, i look at pics to see if they actually have creative, pretty scones and pastries as well as a good tea selection. The pics of the decor itself usually says what quality of afternoon tea u will be having lol. I fricken love afternoon tea so much.

Gosh, I would love working there. For years, probably decades, I’ve been pushing places to do training by immersion like this. And get scoffed at every time. I love that they’re thorough like this. And what he said about a patron asking one question, the first question, and how utterly obnoxious it is when the employee doesn’t know the answer. You don’t have to memorize everything, but at least have a clue. Make an effort. This video is heartening!

I knew that Langham was that place started afternoon tea , but forgotten about it !! It must had been a new excitement, yet more stressful in a sense as " that" place needed to bring the old good British tradition back after the lock downs to British people to provide the comfort & normacy back again !!! As well as to tell the world that it's still alive ( tea traditions )& they were the one ,"that one" again to REINTRODUCE the Brtitish tradition & British way to solace !!!
So this touched my heart !! I was born in 1965 ,so hearing they 1st introduced " afternoon tea " back in 1865 was special ,felt some kind of fate ...as my real name in Kanji, one of the character came from Don of Lon -don in Kanji!!! I loved this video!!! 👍👍💜🍰☕🍵🧁🫖🥂🍾💜💜💜🥁🐉🎤💕💞

Very nice, but wish I could have seen the whole menu, the sandwiches, scones and not just the sweets. I love afternoon teas and when I would have the opportunity to go to Britain, I would have teas with my family and once or twice alone. I really like the ritual (and history) and the menu and enjoy hosting them at home. Afternoon teas at name hotels can get very pricey (even in the US) but it's a treat, so I guess save up.

I have to share something dear to me...
My Aunt Helen Harry (from London) taught me Proper Tea when I was young back in the 60s. When I lived in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (US).
Fast Forward... a few years ago... we were putting on a Shakespeare Play "Midsummer Night's Dream"... I help raise funds for the High school play I would do "Afternoon Tea"... My budget was $500. for food to make the Proper Tea...
After the first night... People were coming back to buy a Ticket just to get the "Afternoon Tea" and Desert... We sold out every night... to the point, that the last night... everything was sold out and the ACTORS didn't get very much to eat... I had to make more.
I made all the deserts by hand... baking way into the earlier morning hours...
It was such a delight... So much fun... I have never been so tired in all my life... (Laughing)...
I am now an Acting Director... hoping to when I move back to Albuquerque, New Mexico (US) to reopen my Acting Studio for Stage and Film... I really want to have a Mystery Dinner Theatre...and on Sundays, an "Afternoon Tea' with desert...
Thank you so much for being so kind to share this delightful video...

I remember the Langham back in the early 80's and also when Disney used it has their 'pre-employment' staff selection venue for the opening of Disney Paris. I worked across the road at the BBC, also in catering, (left after a year) for the board of governors and titled privileged swarays 'gluttonous' dinner parties that always ran late into the night.
What some people fail to recognise is the hard work behind the scenes, the unsociable hours that have to be put in to put on 'The Show'. I wouldn't advise any of my friends or family to go into the hospitality sector, that's if you want a family and social life.

I loved this from start to finish. The fine attention to detail can make such dining an exquisite and exceptional experience akin to being transported for a time into an other world of beauty and gentility. In my younger days (forty years ago) I worked in a florist shop that serviced the Sheraton Palace and other grand old hotels in San Francisco, California and I delivered arrangements of flowers into those beautiful dining rooms. I was so delighted to see the lovely floral arrangements throughout this video that contributed to the ambience of the tea. I hope that the success of this tradition continues, for we need those special moments to remember as we make our way through a world in which it is increasingly rare to have experiences of carefully crafted beauty such as this.

Lovely idea. Glad they are bringing it back. So nice how they appreciate the whole team. However, the afternoon tea did not start at this hotel. Langham may have been the first hotel to offer it but afternoon tea was invented by the seventh Duchess of Bedford, Anna Maria Russell around 1840.
