      I think it's because they have a mutual understanding with one another, I think the police officer knows it's not all the criminal's fault that he got into the life of crime, and that some people do what they have to do.
      With the criminal I think he understands that the police officer is just doing his job to protect people and wouldn't have any animosity toward him, it's just a natural occurrence that he'd work against him.
      "We come from a generation where we'd be sitting across the table where I just charged you with three armed robberies having this conversation."
      I think this emphasises it the most.

      @@josehenriquez3274 You just did the same thing. Starting with "no" immediately tells everyone in the conversation "you're wrong before I even explain anything." And that's a terrible way to start anything. Particular neurotransmitters in the brain that process speech sound off alert signals when they pick up on certain words or phrases. Assertive phrases like "you need to" and "no" trigger authoritative interactions. Now you're in the mind set of "I have to defend myself from this dickhead, and I'm not budging on my point." Meanwhile phrases like "it sounds to me like-" is REALLY "I'm far more interested in what I think about the topic than what you just said."
      What I'd like to respond to you with is "learn some communication skills and then come back." Because of the way that you responded. But I'll instead say "That's an interesting point. I'm looking at it from a negotiation point of view, and it seems like we're both hinting at the same conclusion."
      See how I did that? Way better than "I think we're both just saying the same thing." Which REALLY means "I'm right and you're agreeing with me without even realizing it cause you're just that stupid."

      Mike Duncan the word no triggered an authoritative action to YOU. The word no can be a reaction to many things but it has almost nothing to do with authority but more of a choice, but what it triggers is your problem. Thats personal. Now if you cant have a simple conversation with someone without taking simple words personal...then maybe you should keep studying the art of conversation and partake in them a little more often so you can improve your own communication skills. Phrases like “it sounds to me like” are clearly words of reassurance. “Im going to tell you my pov of that” and you will respond to me with “yes youre correct or no thats not the painting i was drawing out.” Its simple shit youre overanalyzing truthfully. You made a statement wich was true initially in your comment....but you didnt prove it with a fact....you proved it with an opinion based on an observation that has nothing to do with the statement itself when the conclusion has already been reached. And you know better than to name call during a conversation even if youre hiding it under a parentheses come on. Youre better than that

      Guns are fine on officers. Every officer knows what a gun is and what it means to fire it. The good officers will look for reason not to use their gun and the bad ones will just start shooting. That isn't going to change.
      However, the situation gets a lot more complicated when you give an officer a less-lethal weapon. Officers know where to draw the line on whether or not they need to shoot and kill suspects. Tasers on the other hand are not advertised to have such significant effects.
      Imagine a situation someone is resisting a lawful arrest. This suspect is not being violent but they are still resisting. This type of case does not warrant the use of a gun. However because the officer's training says that tasers don't kill people they feel like there is no harm to skipping all attempts of deescalation and just tasers them. The suspect then ends up dying due to heart complications with the taser. Nobody is disputing that the suspect deserved to be punished for what ever crime they may have committed, but they didn't deserve to die for it. Even the officer that killed them didn't want them to die. This type of situation is exactly why some people would rather officers not carry tasers with them at all times.
      I know myself. I don't fit into the type of people that officers feel threaten by appearances. Additionally I will never do anything that causes an officer to want to shoot me. However I am not certain that I will never annoy an officer. Maybe one day I meet an officer that was already having a bad day. Maybe one day I'll be having a bad day and end up not respecting an officers orders as well as I should. Or maybe one day I'll get drunk and stupid in front of the wrong officer. In any of those cases I just hope that I don't become one of the "acceptably rare" statistics of when tasers do end up killing people.

Where as most people who get involved in crime usually have their own reasons - No parental guidance, neglected at school or don't have a descent education to get a better job but still need to feed their family.
    For example drug dealing and prostitution is a crime, but I have still yet to meet a happy junky or prostitute - I know some of them enter it for greed, but others out of desperation.

The prisoners just have to spend the rest of their lives without no meaning other than rotting themselves away in a dump. Saying that prison guards have it worse than prisoners is really stupid.

    • @alf3309
      @alf3309 5 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      @speedosausage That's not how it is 'in the states'- that shit almost never happens. Sure, being a correction officer can be pretty unnerving, but the amount of danger you're in is astronomically less in relation to prisoners. Do correctional officers get raped, killed by rival prison gangs, or blackmailed? Do they have to sleep on a bad mattress with someone in their cell that can physically or sexually assault them at any time? Are they not able to see their friends and family often? The answer is no. Correctional officers don't face half the shit prisoners do.
      The stuff you're talking about is fiction or exaggeration by movies, television shows, and books.
      Don't know what the ex-convict gentleman was talking about with the tasers. All officers (at least in the United States) have to be tased themselves before they're able to carry one. All officers are trained to use tasers. Tasers are only responsible for 24 deaths, none of which were due to the actual taser, only either the fall or fires caused by the electrical spark a taser gives off. (quick google search, correct me if im wrong on those statistics. either way, tasers almost never kill people, and if you consider the fact that officers would be forced to use more lethal methods, fatalities from gunshot wounds could hypothetically increase).
      As far as I'm aware, in the United Kingdom conditions in prisons and requirements for tasers are very similar.

      I think what they did was good. Like you said these discussions have been going on for decades but every discussion is long and drawn out then submerged by opinion rather than fact. Breaking it down to 25 seconds from experienced individuals gets the main point across in a few sentences. It’s those who have never experienced these issues or were the victims of such issues whose opinions trump those professionals actually involved (by means of offending or protecting). It should only take a few words from the wise and experienced to shift an argument. That’s my perspective at least but I respect your POV as well 👍

      Autumn-Marissa McClounie I disagree with you. A few words for major arguments like this simply isn’t enough. All they do is state their opinions and barely back it up. Neither one of them has time to counter an argument, then Counter that argument, etc. they also don’t have any opportunities to introduce proof into their arguments which is a key aspect to any debate. Idk about you, but for me to believe something I generally need proof. Not saying I need a whole scientific study, but 24 seconds isn’t even enough time for a firsthand account about the subject they’re debating about.

We understood the "Respect, The Codes, The Line and Bottom Line." I saw a over the years a larger number of officers even trained can not understand or do this, and steadily becoming worse. The true communicator has lived, worked and comes naturally through understanding. The Inmates called me "The Man with a Stick"/The Predator inmate called me "RoboCop"......They knew Behind population I would counsel and chew an officers ass....just as fast as an inmates. They knew I took no shit....and a fight was OK, but a weapon not tolerated....both would be served due justice protecting each equally. I "was" a big strong powerful man...and yes I used force a few times. But...I lead by being 1st in the fight. I "always felt" I could change the tempo and dynamics of the fight by directly controlling the inmate and officers actions. "I was the Cooler in the situation"...99.9% of the time when I grabbed every inmate immeaditly stopped without retaliation. My older seasoned officers knew my line and when to stop....those damn young officers continuing beyond learned quickly what I didn't tolerate (they were scared and playing Super Hero). I would have a one on one "Counseling session" and that a was that with both inmate and officer. No weapons used..."No Counseling Required"....EVER !!!! If and when I needed to use force,usually always a wall hold or drop.... the inmates never fought me back?? It took awhile but I learned through the grape vine it was "Their Code" to give me.....MUTUAL RESPECT !!! I knew the CODE !!! The inmates and officers both knew I took no shit on either side of the bars you was looking through. The inmates knew I would help and or serve justice honorably to each, or harshly if required. The older seasoned officers and younger "smarter officers" clung to me regardless of shift and situation. The Superhero officers learned to shutup and learn. I have point blank talked to officers telling then to resign and find another job..... before the prison system swallowed them leaving them hollow and alcoholics. In 32yrs.....I Have seen "Good Men" who screwed up destroyed and lost in the system.....I have seen dangerous predators released to the public. I went 18yrs before I "Chose" to even put on Sgt, as I got older I went beyond in rank....today we have Sgts in 4yrs. They haven't even learned the walk...how are they to understand and/or lead if they didn't work the trenches. MAX Life of 32yrs...I walked the walk...RESPECT/The CODE...I never crossed the thin Blue Line....I UNDERSTAND BOTH VIEWS !!

    It’s also quite telling when you notice how the criminal is always “Strongly” agreeing or disagreeing while the cop is often making use of the moderate options. When the question regarding “Do bank robbers hurt people” comes up, the robber even goes quickly to Strongly Agree only to change his mind suddenly and switch straight over to Strongly Disagree which seems to showcase a tendency to initiate sudden drastic action. These options highlight the difference in personality between the two quite well.

      I mean tbh alot of criminals honestly have a far stricter "code" than non criminals ironically. I did alot of fucked shit was I was younger but honestly it was because I never really cared about laws I lived by my own code and part of that was my family comes first and you deal with shit yourself, just those two on the surface purely positive things can get you in alot of trouble these days. Honestly I still think like that but I calmed down when I found out the hard way my way of doing things was only putting my family in danger. Well it took a few years to fully get myself away from being used to that way of doing things after I realized I needed to change but yeah. And truth is alot of criminals are like that they're on the bottom see the system is bullshit and just start thinking in a pure survival my tribe first kinda thought process

    More weapons carried by police, more weapons will be used by criminals.
    In Norway the police don't carry guns, they have guns securely locked in cars for certain encounters. They have to get permission to use their guns.
    We have do not have a lot 'gun crime' here, even though we have relatively many weapons with tenth place in the world weapons per person.
    In 2019 we had 5 murders, 20% more than average.
    Our closest neighbor Sweden,which is very similar to Norway in most ways, the police have guns. They had in 2019 44 gun related deaths.
    Sweden has just under double the population of Norway, but around 10 times as many gun related deaths.
    USA had almost 40000 gun related deaths in 2017, but 'only' around 40% was murders so approximately 16000 deaths.
    Thats 3200 times that of Norway with 60 times the population.
    England had almost 6 times as many deaths by shooting than Norway, but with 10 times the population. The British police don't wear guns except for specially-trained firearms officers, and in Northern Ireland were the police carry weapons.
    Some people claim that carrying weapons is to protect the public.
    That may be, but in a study from Sweden where 430 shootings was examined, only 1 was to protect a third party.

      lordeagleye I'd say the biggest problem for the uk mainly though is knife crime, there isn't a need for a gun when the criminal doesn't have one either, meaning tasers are able to disarm and temporarily incapacitate their target. But on the rare chance that there is an armed drug gang or terrorist attack, armed police are always useable for that situation if it escalates.

    • @MaaZeus
      @MaaZeus 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally I like Finnish way of doing things. Here police do wear a guns and are well armed, but they are heavily discouraged from using it unless absolutely necessary to save a life and even then they are trained in shooting less vital parts of the body to make the criminal drop but not necessarily die if treated. Yes it is a gamble because a heavily drugged person may not feel the pain/shock and drop in time but so far it has paid off in saving lives, both the criminals and the victims. And every single time a police fires his gun there is a thorough investigation if it was justifiable use of force or not, even in very obvious cases like couple of years ago when a deranged student attacked his school with a longsword and had killed few people there and then tried (unsuccesfully, he got dropped with non lethal shots) to do a suicide attack with it against police. The amount of times a police has to fire their guns yearly can be counted with fingers of one hand and it is always news here when it happens.

    • @leagleye
      @leagleye 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MaaZeus the problem is when police are armed, the criminals will arm themselves to.
      Finland has no more need for armed police than Norway and England. It's just escalating the problem.
      Now the Norwegian police are temporarily armed because of 'terrorist threats' that has happened in a European city.
      I feel so unsafe with armed police that when i see the police i take a long detour.
