      @artbylynn7070 when you wet the hair did it it ruin the flat ion style? I’m natural and my hair smells so bad. I paid handsomely for the style but can’t wet my hair or it will flip to an Afro. I’m going to have to ask my stylist to clean her plates 😫😫😫

      @@sheilau7617 I have been natural for over 10 years. So if my hair gets wet too much or i'm in humid temperatures my hair will revert. But there's many times where a drop of water has touched my hair and it just rolls off And my hair stays straight. Ask your stylist to do a clarifying wash To make sure there is no residual product and Condition with something that is moisturizing but not too waxy. And she should definitely be cleaning those plates. My plates get the gunky buildup after 3 uses. A quick wipe with alcohol on a cotton pad cleans it perfectly. And then let the plates dry properly. I have a hot head and I like warm showers. After 12 days my head top smell sweaty but the hair is still straight. At 14 days I'm washing it. The struggle is real. ❤️❤️❤️

    The smell is actually from a reaction of heat coming in contact with the chemicals in our hair’s molecular build up, I.e proteins minerals. Most burnt hair smells like peanuts. It’s the heat reaction with the keratin and sulfur in our hair, peanuts have the same proteins and are mostly made up of protein. George WashingtonCarver back in his day made very effective hair products from peanuts, and peanuts were a common thing used on black hair because it was high in supply and highly effective for hair growth and care back then. I did a report on him in 4th grade. Dirty hair being heated definitely does give it that peanut smell but it’s all due to the breaking down of the proteins and minerals in the hair the hair is weakest when it’s dirty or wet etc. I always questioned this and did research on it and I always thought of peanuts and when I looked up the molecular structure of peanuts it’s very close to the molecular structure or hair.

    I got highlights and silk press at a beauty college almost a month ago. She burnt tf out of my hair. it's been weeks still trying to get rid of the smell :( They tried to play dumb I said Im not tripping I promise just how do I get rid of the smell? They played dumb so I had to do some research. Spent that money for nothing because I only had it for 3 days before I had to wash it or something. I used baking soda it helped A LOT and Im going to use apple cider vinegar tonight because it's not all the way gone yet. It looked so good but it stank :( Im going to attempt to do it by myself today and tomorrow and I have no experience doing hair. I have everything I need though. I think she didnt get my hair all the way dry. Ill make sure to follow all these tips and Ill let ya'll know how it turns out.

      Thank you for watching. I hope the tips help. Now girlllllll. I'm sorry that experience happened to you. I'm thinking the same thing, that it wasn't dried all the way and it fried smell from the water droplets sizzling. Orrrrr, potentially, the heat tools they were using might not have been very clean. Its easy for heat tools to get gunky build up on it, especially in the groves on the sides of the plates. The next time i ever go to get my hair done by a salon or someone using their own tools, ill be keeping an eye out for sanitizations jars and if the tools are icky. Just in case. You have tried really good methods for getting rid of the smell. Keep me posted indeed please. ♥️♥️♥️♥️

    Great video, how do you get rid of the smell to start over?

    • @shanikacorb
      @shanikacorb  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello. When I had the burnt smell in my hair, I would let the hair air out while hanging down after it is straightened and then put a hair serum or hair oil on my hair and wrap it up in a bun or large single braid and cover it up with a scarf or bandana to let the oil penetrate. The smell is gone the next day when I unwrap my hair. But if the burnt smell is really strong to the point where it's too overwhelming for even you to stand, then i would just re wash. I have found over the years that even with really good techniques, some home products don't smell good anymore after the hair has been straightened. Something about how the ingredients react with the heat. I use to use lusters Pink lotion when I first started doing my hair as a teen and my hair would get straight but the smell after I straightened was awful. Like burnt plastic. Lol.

    Hello thank you for the information.If the hair should not have moisture before straightening., how long should you wait after applying a heat protectant spray before you actually pass through your hair with the iron? Isn't the spray itself adding moisture? I should also add that I was told to put protecting on before blow drying, And then put another protectant on before pressing with the flat iron. Is adding that second round of heat protection where I'm making the mistake because I'm literally adding moisture to the hair again that's not needed at that point? In other words, should you only use the heat protection spray or oil before blow drying and don't add more when you pass through with the iron?

    • @shanikacorb
      @shanikacorb  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Heyyyy. Perfect question. When I first started using heat protectant spray again I would alternate between only applying it before blow drying and then sometimes again when putting the iron on. I didn't like the effect I got when I applied twice. Buttttt. I make sure to apply heat protectant very evenly on all my hair ( top to bottom, inside and out) before I blow dry. And then I'll wait atleast 30 minutes after blow drying before I go in with the iron. Gives my strands a chance to fully absorb the moisturizer and heat protectant without there being too much residual wetness on the outer strands. I think it's the wetness that can really make the sizzle sound and give the burnt smell sometimes. I have tried doing my hair with no added moisture or product in the blow drying phase and my hair gets frizzy, reverts faster, and has a weird static effect. From being tooo light. Double check that the heat protectant spray you use protects up to as close as possible the temperature you set your iron too. I have also noticed that some heat protectant sprays seem like spraying a fine lovely mist vs a super soaker water gun. And some have a higher water content and don't evaporate as quickly as others. Which spray have you been using? ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Thanks for watching.

      @@shanikacorb Thank you so much! I've been using Dark and Lovely Blow Dry Creme for the blow dry then IC Fantasia Heat Protectant Serum before the flat iron. I would let my hair air dry mostly before applying the blow dry creme and blow drying. Then, I'd apply a little serum to each section and flat iron right after applying. My iron was set at 375 and I'd wipe the plates before using but would still get the burned smell. I even noticed it after a silk press at the salon so I figured our hair just burns although I don't recall smells back when I was a kid and my mom would press my hair with the old school hot comb on the stove. I will try your suggestion to allow more time between blow drying and flat ironing and give the serum time to absorb. (Lately by the time I finished washing, conditioning, and blow drying, the whole day has gone by and I'm ready to press it and finish up and be done, LOL ). Thanks again for the advice I'm looking forward to giving it a try. 😊

      @@alewisscott I think you are using good products and you got a good routine. For sure give it more time between the steps. It's exhausting the entire day process. I used to always wash at night and then straighten the next day so I'd have that extra 16 houra atleast for my hair to dry and absorb and my arms could rest. When I was younger my mom was using Lusters Pink Lotion. Loved the smell in my hair before heat was applied but then after I smelt like burnt plastic going to school. Lol. Keep me posted. @shanikacorb thank you for replying. I love my flat iron, but it's old, so it has years worth of crud on it. I've tried cleaning it off, but maybe the alcohol will do it better.
