The flop rule was created directly because the most famous player was cheating too much. The entire league mimicked him, and it became an epidemic. His flopping is disrespectful to his competitors, the fans, and the game in whole. The greatest basketball player of all time can not be a serial cheater.

Although I'd like to blame LeBron for the flopping epidemic that happened. I think someone like a Coach K changing his entire system to emphasize drawing offensive fouls and winning championships in the late90s/early2000s had a big impact on it too. Other NBA/college coaches saw what worked and began mimicking it. LeBron who was still in high school would've seen this too. Taking charges eventually devolved into flopping for cheap calls.

Self proclaimed GOAT: flopping, travelling, carrying the ball, complaining, crying on the floor, choking in the clutch, crowning himself, quitting on his team (5-7x), destroying competitiveness and "needing more help" mantra. Turnovers, missed shots (bricks), offensive fouls (left arm push/ramming his shoulder into the defender), almost no defence last five years, poor fundamentals, below average free throw shooter, "I WANT MY DAMN RESPECT" nonsense, always on the first page of every book he reads, load management, excuses (fake injuries)... Lebron will NEVER be in the same breath with true deadly competitors like MJ and Kobe. Toughness is not just muscle, in fact, it has very little to do with it as it is all in the mind and how competitive are you?? MJ, Kobe, Magic, BIrd and most of the old-school greats like Russell, Wilt etc. all would do anything to get a leg up on you.
That is gone from today's youth...totally gone. I just recently started playing NBA 2K after about a 10 year absence and I'm 58 mind you and in some games these youngsters will actually quit if you go on a good run and get them frustrated. It is the same in the NBA you can just see these guys are friends and business partners etc. and I would be willing to say that 80 percent of the current NBA really doesn't love the game, it is money, fame and lifestyle for them.
That is why teams like the 96 Bulls, 83 Sixers, 72 Lakers, 80's Lakers and Celtics would DESTROY today's best. Literally destroy them and I fear you might see tears for real. The NBA is a league that I have loved since I would stay up and watch tape delay Finals broadcast at 11:30 pm after local news and today I'm losing all enjoyment watching this weak and boring game.
Today it is non-stop pick and roll, pop a three...no excitement, no defense and no displays of true athleticism on display all game ala the 80's, 90's and up until around 2011 when it all started going downhill. Well, I could go on for days, but it is sad to see scoring records broken by guys who could not hold a candle to the great players of the golden era.

How do you “fix” and inferior product without fixing the inferior project? Marketing. They got plenty of that. And they borrowed a page from modern politics….if the can’t meet the standards, lower the standards and use marketing to support the narrative. We can’t compete with those standards so we’re going to call anyone who sees the inferior product as an “old head” and make it cool to be all in one the modern bs version they sell us. It works on gen z fans. They just want to fit in. They don’t demand higher standards…they’ll accept anything,

I agree with everything you said 150%. LeBron James could never be the go due to his lack of loyalty . After he lost in the finals with Cleveland the last thing he should have done was go to Miami. And if I was cleaning I would have never let him come back because I know when it got tough he would leave again just like he did. And the flopping is so irritating so disrespectful to the game and if you are the goat then do like Michael Jordan and go through the person and lead by example, play defense and don't whine so much. This man is an opportunist when it comes to competing in basketball. He will never be the goat no matter what he does because of what he already has done

Imagine Kobe if he had not had 3 consecutive years of devastating injuries in his 30's that robbed him of his athleticism and it went all at once and he didn't have a chance to adjust to the gradual change like most players. Still, I'm with you Shawn every time I hear people call him the goat I CRINGE then I get pissed.

Sean, you put my feelings into words very well. If you want to be the goat, you need to be greater than the current goat. The lack of effort really stands out to me. It’s the “I’m too cool to play defense so I’ll just stay out of the play, and I definitely don’t want to get posterized” attitude. Lebron has way too many qualities that are uncharacteristic of goats.
Basketball used to be one of the “I’m tougher than you” sports and it’s transitioned to “I flop and flail better than you” under lebrons time as face of the nba. And the ratings reflect that.

My top 10 go Jordan 2 Wilt 3 Kobe 4 Bird 5 Magic 6 Hakeem 7 Rodman 8 Pippen 9 Shaq 10 It's tied between Duncan and Barkley. Why do I have Rodman so high if you needed someone to shutdown your top player 1-5 in any game he did it without complaining about it. His defense on Magic in the Pistons series wins was legendary his shutdown on Shaq in his Bulls years is the stuff of legend. He defended anyone who we was told to and cleaned up the glass also. You want to know why the Bulls of second 3 peat were so dominant they literally had 4 of the best defensive players in the history of the game as starters in Harper Jordan Pippen and Rodman.
Why is Hakeem higher than Shaq. Simple for 8 straight years the only 2 players that raised the finals MVP trophy were either Jordan with 6 and Hakeem with the other 2. That's some serious stuff right there. Russell yes he has 11 rings but he literally had next to no competition in his career.
Jordan has more series wins against 60 win teams than any other player in history. He played and beat the best. How many other HOF players in his Era didn't win a finals because Chicago destroyed them in the playoffs. Ewing for 1 Reggie Miller And multiple others
