I just bought and played this game following these instructions. Not only do I love it but it is highly delightful even playing by oneself... though I don't think it's quite as good without other people, lol... but still fun either way.
I purchased Dungeon Run after seeing it on "Watch it Played," so it was really nice to see that Plaid Hat Games recognizes Rodney's contributions. This one just looks too awesome! Definitely looking forward to a copy of "Mice & Mystics!"

Was thinking of buying this game but, unfortunately, after watching the whole video it convinced me it is not for me, but that is what is great about these videos, they let you know whether to buy the game or not based on your personal preferences. Great video overall :)

Oh my god thank you foe this video. Learning this game just from the rulebook has been incredibly frustrating, this video answered so many questions that were unclear in the writing.

Normally a video tutorial is painfully hard to follow, but this was easy to understand, and was explained very well!

Ok sounds like Dungeon Run meets The Secret of Nimh, which (even without the backstabbing) seems like an awesome combination. Can´t wait to watch more of this after the rule explanation. Thx a lot for a truelly awesome show. Just loving it. It has (together with Tabletop) rekindled my love for Tabletop games. I stumbled upon it by accident when I was looking something up for Mansions of Madness. I ended up watching the adventures of Harvey Walters and his gang in one go^^ Keep on playing.

OK. I usually listen to rules while doing the dishes (I understand the the rulebook better after that). I did search a lot for good explanation of the rules of Mice and Mystics and never found any... till I found yours. Man, I remember why I suscribed to your channel last year. You're structured (I don't know if it means what I mean) and you know how to explain! Plus, your accent is unique :) I never heard someone with this accent. Hey, if you could hear me, you would just laugh.

Thanks for the video! It explained things a bit better than reading the information was doing for me. Looking forward to seeing it played before making the final decision. :) It looks like a lot of fun, but it's a bit of a plunge for a game to play solo, since it doesn't look like I'll be able to convince family to play (and my friends don't even live in the same state any longer!). My family needs a bit of easing into games this complex, I think.

Its like a friendly version of Kingdom Death. Looks fun!
I think in the rules that a minion can only attack the closest, highest ranked on the initiative track,and never attacked on the same phase, mouse. Otherwise, 6-8 roaches can attack one mouse, which is very hard to defend against.

A very informative video. Not a huge fan of not having a dedicated gm controlling the monsters and narrating the story. Its kind of a conflict of interest. Otherwise the game seems pretty accessible and fun. Fortunately I was part of the Hasbro Pulse Heroquest re-release and I am looking forward to getting back into it.
Got this today, so stunned at how beautiful the artwork and components are. So much better than video games. Although, the spiders and roaches are well scary. I am so not picking those up! Nice video.

I want to like this game so much as it seems to have a lot of things I like in games, but the rolling, rolling rolling along with super basic combat (or so as reviews have suggested) I have yet to buy it.
I can't decide if I would like this, Wrath of Ashardalon (or similar D&D game) or try for a solo version of Descent 2nd Ed.

Mice and Mystics Question: Abduction
After the successful search, does that count as both a "Find of the Abducted Mouse" and a Draw from the Search Deck? Or is it just the "Find the Abducted Mouse"?

This is definitely a LOT more complicated than I though it would be. Looks like it could be tons of fun if played with at least one player who knows the game.
I’ll just warn everyone now that this video does not do a sufficient job of teaching the rules. We just played the game last night, and while the video does an excellent job of giving an overview, we basically had to play with the rulebook open the whole time. There are a ton of minor and not so minor little rules scattered all over the place that you will just miss if you don’t read the rules yourself. It’s probably the worst rulebook layout I’ve ever seen.
you should try stuffed fables, it's another story book adventure by plaid hat. game play is very similar but it's easier to get going b/c the story book and rule book are light years better.
sparkingconduit - agreed! I just tried to play this - came here to watch the 'How To Play', but it's LOADS more complicated than it seems, which results in waaay too much back and forth to the very large Rules Book...
sparkingconduit yeah, this was back when plaid hat didn’t know how to lay out their rules in a coherent way. Their game’s rulebooks are much better now. And I agree, this video is great but there’s a lot of little nuances that are missed. Part of it is due to Jerry Hawthorne too (the designer of the game) his games are very mechanical, simple rules but have a lot of little upkeep rules that can be missed or forgotten. None of this is to throw any shade at the company or the designer, both have improved greatly now. Mice and mystics is a Great game overall though.

at 11:05 where you're doing the combat: you roll a sword with a 2 and a sword/shield with a 3: i'd been counting that as an attack of 5 (3+2) and the the defender rolls a shield with a 2 (defense blocks 2 of the 5 hits). But the way you do it is to ignore the numbers, so it's just two hits (two dice with a sword) and 1 defense (one dice with a shield). Looking at the rule book it's not very clear. If it's just the "number of dice with a sword" then what is the purpose of the numbers in the top left corner?

This looks like a great game, only real question I have is How many chapters and how do chapters relate to your overall w-l ratio? like if there's 6 chapters and you beat 2/6 your ratio is negative so you've lost the entire game?

So I want to check something on ranged weapons. Maginos's staff can be used as a ranged weapon and has a +1 on range. Does that mean I only role 1 die, or do I add another for his base attack? I'm not sure as I though you only add the perks on similar symbols.

I'll be frank, at first I thought this was a neat concept, like childrens dnd. Then here I am 16 minutes in, and all I can think is "Why bother playing this when I could play actual dnd?" This seems so involved I may as well just pull out character sheets and get to rolling several sided dice, at least there it seems more clear what I can do.
