He was probably literally just a one night stand from the sound of things and this game isn't worth more of a deep dive than that, a one night stand who may or may not have been a good father, we don't know and it's not worth troubling yourself over

A lot of the bad dialogue was cut out, and a lot of the story is paraphrased, well it is intended to be that. But it really does a poor job to display just how truly bad the story is. And compressing it this way actually makes Frey look better. But that's a disservice to people, because they might buy the game thinking "oh it wasn't that bad" only to be hit hard with "oh no, it's way worse" For example. That bit where they go "I'm on Frey's side for this" about when the other girl's father died and she says she's not from here. They cut the bit where she actually tried to compete over how much more tragic a past they have by trauma dumping in return to go "Your pain don't matter because my pain is worse". Zero empathy, zero sympathy, zero cares. And by people, she doesn't refer to the people in authority, she refers to the people on the street.
Because as you go around talking to the NPCs, the down to the ground people actually seem to like Frey and are welcoming to her. So yes. She was welcomed with open arms. Only the authority did her wrong. But despite being met with care and kindness from the populace, she decides you all can go burn to hell because of your political leaders.
Also, up to this point, she has been raving on and on about how awesome her powers are. Back in New York, she lived a horrid life and seemingly had no friends. Here, she has a dedicated friend, a simp, and a few other welcoming folks. While the authority is on her hard, it was the same back in New York. And in New York, she wanted to both go to wonderland in a I'm dreaming of a better place, and on a realistic end wanted to go to greener pasture with Clean Air, Greenery and all that stuff which she has right here.
So you pile on the tired isekai trope of the reluctant hero who wants to return to a clearly crappier and poorer life back at home where she didn't even like said home. And you get a lot of frustration with Frey that isn't conveyed well with how they're showcasing her here... Also, Vambrace is often the voice of reason, and the voice of empathy and sympathy in the game. He is literally the conscience on her shoulder trying to guide her to both be a better person and be kinder to people and to do good. The twist that he's a bad guy is there but it's kind of mid. Really the best part of the game is Vambrace. And he's only okay at best, because everything else in this game is pretty crappy.

Fun fact: We are never told why Athia went to war with the nation of Rheddig, nor why they were so desperate they would summon a demon, as either a last stand or revenge. We are just expected to assume we are working for the good guys the entire time.
Tantas’ victory is also widely known as the "Purge of the Rheddig." Which has some...implications.
The "cleansing of the Rheddog filth" was self defence.
To be fair we dont even know if he is exactly a demon or just another higher being they begged to protect them. He may have just came in to try to protect them only for their genocide to be something he was unable to stop. With him retaliating in revenge giving to the tantas and their people what they had done to rheddig.

Guess they didn't want to spent all the rich lore on one game. You better believe they were dreaming of a prequel too. And a sequel. And a "how mum became a dragon" DLC.
$100 Million was spent on this game, and I say about 99.9% of that went to marketing, and 0.1% was for this skeleton of a game.

@branmanthe39th30 Yeah, from what I understand you spend nearly half the fucking game with only the initial cuff powers (and a decent amount of time with no powers at all, since it's still the prologue), so you get barely any time whatsoever to actually use the expanded ability set.
So if the people already knew about the war and what the cuff is at the start, why didn't they just tell fray "oh that cuff you're wearing is evil" instead of trying to execute fray
that would require dialogue, dialogue that makes sense can only be archived by good writers. In this case, less is more.
That would require them knowing what the story was. They just threw stuff at the wall towards the end.

playing devil's advocate here: I dont think the people knew anything about Susurrus or the Tantas' fight with it. They definitely didnt know about the Cuffs as they didnt even know the Tantas were insane currently.
The Tantas knew she was being manipulated by the cuff but were too far gone to coherebtly explain the threat to anyone. The second tanta shrieking 'QUIET QUIET QUIET' wasnt so much directed at Frey but her fragment of Susurrus.

Its kinda lame that of all things she became a dragon (unexplained), with no other tanta suffering the break to prove that all tantas become dragons or other beasts are possible.

Susurrus means whisperer. They literally wore a demon called the whisperer. If they're the best Athia has, it surprises me the demons haven't destroyed this realm yet

The biggest problem in my opinion is the writing. Yes, the gameplay is horrific, but the complete lack of subtlety is baffling. When they’re trying to foreshadow Frey’s parents it’s laughable how much they spell it out, as if they think the audience are complete morons who can’t think for themselves.

@@ExeErdna To be completely fair, players can't be trusted -- but that's with gameplay; searching around, looking up etc. -- why things are brightly colored and seemingly out of place arrows and such are in the environments. **Narrative** shit, though, is not something that ever needs to be hand-held. It's the ONE thing a player can be trusted with.
Nah the gameplay is horrible, everything about the game is horrible. The story is decent at best, its very generic it's crazy.
If you ask me....the best thing in the entire game is the movement.

My biggest issue with this game is that it's so empty, not of content but of NPC's.
I thought that once we kill a Tanta and free that section of the map the empty towns would start to fill up again with people, shops and Quests but no Cipal is literally the only place where you can interact with NPC's outside of the Tantas and Cuff.
Imagine if they start filling up the towns with NPCs and quests in the post-game, but as DLC.
@@Anthropomorphicthat would have been awesome, maybe Robian was able to create a kind of protection or shield to ward off the Break. People would be ecstatic to finally be able to leave and start over, while knowing it could be dangerous and if the protection failed, they would surely die.
Sadly, I don't think this will get any more DLC, nor a Spin-off or sequel.
That's not what's important. But you know what IS important? That you're not alone. And some days, it might seem cloudy. But...just know...that you matter. Your cat matters. You can't give up hope. Even if there are no NPCs around...you are somebody and I love you. I'll see you soon.
The only section of the story that i find interesting is Vambrace, but just impressed by the voice actor. I love how villainy he sounds.
I don't like how he sounds like Wheatley from Portal who also becomes the villain because it made me guess he was also going to be the villain

There are so many “why the fuck’s” I could’ve wrote here, but I’ll settle on this one: why the fuck is she pals with Sus man at the end? This guy killed her mom and is responsible for the deaths of millions. On top of that, his only justification was “cuz it’s my job or something”
To be fair I am actually pretty sure he was the hero of the story.
Internet Historian skipped the horrible dialogues from Frey that was sprinkled into the gameplay, and didn't go in enough how insufferable she was.
The writing of this was insane.
So, the vambrace randomly gets sucked into the portal, if it didn't, Athia would be fucked.
Why didn't the demon just get the Tanats to kill each other until there's one left?
So, all the Tantas needed to do was have a child and the demon would've lost that first battle?
Why couldn't the demon kill off the Tantas in the first battle when he can do it i this game with a 1/4 of his power on a human girl?
Not to defend it too much, but he was able to beat the Tantas here because they were down one member (mom wizard was too busy being a dragon I guess), they weren't coordinating, and his other cuffs had already broken them mentally. Presumably they were more capable of fighting when they were working together and mentally sound.
@@TheAngryXenite His name means whisperer, and he's a demon. It's not exactly hard to imagine that being in close contact with a demon might not be the best for you. They could simply have locked it up or hidden them away separately without telling the others to make the locations secure and only telling the next Tanta that succeeds them and in a place where no people are so that no one would be able to be lured into serving him. It's pretty stupid considering they had plenty of options.

Kinda funny how a game that keeps nailing you in the head with ¨YOUR POTENTIAL DONT WASTE UR POTENTIAL!!!!!¨ and then the game makers go and wastes the potential of a triple A level budget of 100 Million USD.
I would like to take a moment to congratulate all those who managed to complete this game. Clearly, you are beyond all of us regular mortals, for I could barely sit through a comedic summary of this miserable excuse for a story.
Remember, you matter. You are big deals. Don't waste your potential. It is your duty to suffer through nightmares like this so others do not... Or at least, that's what I think the message of this game is, but I'm sure not gonna play it myself to find out.

55:34 Wait, hang on. She was already pregnant when they fought Sussurus? Doesn’t that mean 1) that Cinta just casually took a break from the war to bang a guy in another dimension and 2) it took _less_ _than_ _a_ _year_ for the other tanta’s to go crazy and start summoning magic hurricanes?
I had given the writers too much credit. I thought the corruption took years, and it was during that time that Cinta started traveling to other worlds. But apparently the wise-and-powerful tantas started going crazy almost immediately and did jack about it, and Cinta ditched an ongoing war to get her back blown out by a random New Yorker.
I think somebody on the dev team wanted to write a YA fantasy book but they didn’t want to go through the process of writing/publishing an actual book, so they made a video game instead.
Also people keep forgetting that you have to make a decent game or two before you can add a bunch of lore to its world and not the other way around.
Game studios keep looking at massive franchises like Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Pokémon etc and trying to create something at the same scale right off the bat while forgetting that it took between 10-50ish years for all those different games to become the way that they are today.
And that kind of success isn’t likely to happen on your first try.
So maybe just chill and use that money to make multiple games instead of blowing it on all on one and being surprised when doing that doesn’t work out for you 🤷
Well, technically, this was their second try, their first being Final Fantasy 15 which in comparison seems like an overall better game than this, although they still had the issue of a bunch of lore that isn't mentioned or explained very well. I think that makes people's shock at the quality of forspoken more than reasonable, 15 was actually decent, or at least a lot more ppl came out of it with a positive experience in comparison, with some even citing it as their favorite in the Final Fantasy series.
Only thing that's a bit of a shame for me rn is Idk that square will ever use the particular game engine they used for this ever again. Forspoken doesn't do any of it justice as the luminous engine through past tech demos seems like it can legitimately look very pretty, if anything it feels like it probably just wasn't right for open world games.
The worst part is that if you put a decent amount into the side content like i foolishly did, it isnt 25 hours befor the story gets anything close to engaging, its like 30 or 40. I have a real problem with games like wolfenstein the new colossus being 6 hours long with 3 and a half hours of cutscenes, but forspoken being the opposite is just as bad.
Also the " I'm here to f you up" line strait up has the same energy as DragonBall abridged goku telling freiza that he's going to rock him like a hurricane, only tfs meant for that to be as stupid and funny as it is. I don't think that was the intent here.

Internet historian made it so much more Entraining to sit through. Aside from that. To see The both of you this long after work was worth it! Honestly this game has one of the emptiest and most boring open worlds I've seen in a long time. Sure there are places that look fairly cool but there is nothing to the world. It looks fairly same and aside from collecting stuff there is nothing. No npcs to meet in the open world because all the people live only in this 1 city. No interesting sidequests or cool gear to find. All you get is cloaks and nails that give minor stat boosts which is the most boring form of rewards you can get in a game. New abilities to use or things that drastically change up how you play will always be way more interesting than stat boosts. So all you do is run around the world between boring sidequests and the main missions or going from map marker to map marker collecting stuff that is not interesting at all.
For a game developer credited with helping on Final Fantasy XV, I’m left wondering what they did for that game because Forspoken takes a huge step back of at least fifteen years in quality. These are PS3 quality graphics.
i'd really love to see a post mortem on what the fuck went wrong with the development of that game... how did they manage to burn that amount of money and this being what they have to show for it...
i mean the developers at bioware who worked on mass effect andromeda can at least say: "hey, management canned everything we had developed over multiple years, forced a complete engine change on us and we created that thing from the ground up in 8 months with a skeleton crew of mostly junior staff while the big wigs were all working on anthem." and i'd say that mass effect andromeda in the context of being developed from scratch in 8 months by mainly junior staff with unfamiliar tools in an unfamiliar engine... its fucking amazing what they accomplished in that short amount of time with the conditions set by management.
but forspoken... from what i heard, they got everything they wanted, all the time they needed, all the money to burn and it just resulted in a cringy mediocre and sometimes offensive mess with a whole cast of unlikable bullshit characters... (cant rip on the va's though, script and direction were fucked. they did what they were told to do and seemed to execute that beautifully. they were told bullshit though...
They just didn't have the ability to make this type of game with this type of character.

Yeah, my dad got me himself Mortal Kombat when I was a kid and he let me play it. The SNES was a family gift, lol.
I’m sure if I played the game I would have hated the story but I’m actually enjoying it through this commentary.
I don’t think they watched Marvel movies for this. This seems more like that surge of YA movies that came out. Like Percy Jackson and Maze Runner and Hunger Games. Also, this could have been Hogwartz Legacy. Just from this summary it felt like HL gone wrong.
Honestly, what could have made the Cuff/Sussurus a more interesting antagonist would be that if instead of just wanting to destroy Athia because it’s what he wants to do, have it be that he’s destroying Athia because it’s the only way his pact with the Reddig can end and finally allow him to go back to his own home. That way he can be a foil to Faye in that he actually SYMPATHIZES with Faye’s desire to go home because deep down he wants the exact same thing. The only difference is, of course, that Sussurus is willing to sacrifice anything and everything in order to go back home, whereas Faye learns by the end of the story that you can make anywhere home if you can find people to love there.
I had a great time.

I got to see how this game that I have not even heard of, but supposedly was gonna be game of the year flushed $100Million down the drain.
I got to have some laughs from the ridiculousness of some scenes, while also amused on how you guys reacted to it as well.
Would have hoped for more time at the end of the video for you guys to just talk more about your thoughts on the video and the game in general, but it was alright.
Hope to watch more videos from both channels where you react to videos together, the interactions you have with each other, the small jokes, the tidbits of random stuff, just talking about the video with each other makes it quite enjoyable, it gives the video's more something? Don't have the word for it, but its great to see daily videos again, even if the cause for doing so is the new AC.

At 23:27 was probably the most genuine STFU I heard in a while in media and at 1:06:46 they tried so hard to emulate Nero's Devil Trigger moment in DMC5 it made me laugh so goddamn hard!

As someone who reads lots of novels and manga it was obvious that the dragon was her mom, its the usual outcome of some powerful being trying to take the protag rather then kill them

Tbh this game could have been saved with some tweaks, (I know it was condensed but regardless of that I mean) Side quests, Morality scale(choose if you wanna be the hero or just someone trying to go home). Different endings
And give susurrus the back story of a demon with contractual obligation to do the evil he does, something about him being trapped in an unfeeling gilded form until he's upheld his side of the bargain or something. Make the "bad ending" leaving and make em have to watch as susurrus crumbles the kingdom and mc(forgot her name already) sleeps in an alley. Or the good ending which is how this played out but frey(was that the name? Close enough) gives the loop hole of "If I rename the land then the kingdom of whatever is technically no more" full filling his obligation and then Sus just has to stick around until that goal is sought through
Oh and obviously take out the dumb ass hour of being talked at about lore, make that shit part of a 100%ing easter egg or something, call em "fractured memories" and you gotta explore to find them like memories in BoTW or Dossiers in Ark. Remember folks, Lore is optional
Wow… that was hard to get through 😅. I mean every time the main character talks it’s just made it harder. I rather have a complicated ‘anime logic’ plot than one that makes me angry tbh.
i think the game just didnt know when to stop. a joke would happen and then you'd have 2 more lines trying to make the joke take longer. dialog would go on and on for no reason. if they just took some time and cut the fat off it would have ended up a better product.

My dad also introduced my brother and I to video games. The forespoke series never looked good to me. The main character was annoying in the previews so I knew it wasnt a character for me. I like it when the mains dont talk so you can really pretending your the person.
That isn't and was never the problem. Geralt talks a lot, Kassandra talks a lot, there are many MC's that talk in the games, the difference is you actually care about them. Frey was just an annoying sh*t you wanted your enemies to just k*ll already.
@@maozedong8370 Nobody is saying it's a problem, but it's a different type of MC. Instead of roleplaying as your own character, you're forced to roleplay as this pre-written MC, which works if the MC is well-written, like Geralt is, but falls flat if you hate their guts.

After Forespoken Failed The Studio Luminous Productions that made it got Bankrupted and Merged into Square Enix Main Studio. Trash all over legit in GameStop Trash cans they have copies in there because no one buying the game xD

Here is why I could never take the Tantas seriously.
Due to the pronunciation of the characters, I often hear them turning the first ''A' into an 'O' making it sound like "Tontas".
In Spanish, "tonta" means "dumb", so it always appears like people are calling their all powerful leaders and magic users dumb.
Honestly this game story seems so cringe worthy. It was a struggle to finish the video, the protagonist telepathically monologuing to her cat "what a big deal she is" ugghhh

I've never played the game so there's probably a ton of detail I'm not aware of, but the story feels really similar to a lot of Hero's Journey-type Young Adult fiction. It also seems really linear and lacking in actual gameplay. Basically, it feels like it really wants to be a big budget YA movie rather than a game.
Also, how does the magical fantasy demon know what artificial sweeteners are?
The answer is probably that Cuff could read her mind and learn about Earth from her memories. After all, presumably the Wisdom Tanta did the same thing to craft her illusions. That, or a Splenda packet flew into the building in NYC Cuff was chilling in.

i actually dig fay's "you're not alone" speech. it's a bit heavy-handed but clearly it's an anti-depressant speech and i vibe with those. honestly from what i've seen here i'd say the story isn't actually bad, just not told well.
I think the speech is really good too, the problem though, she was giving that speech to a cat. I feel it would have been so much better if instead of a cat, it was a child she was taking care of, another street urchin she decided to care for. This is coming from my perspective as a writer and reader.
It's a great motivational speech. Hopefully the cat takes it to heart and doesn't do anything bad to itself.

To your second point, that seems to be the general consensus I've seen from others. The literal thousands of isekai stories make it obvious that there is a clear market for a game like this. The one thing better than an isekai story is a good isekai story. You could have the most generic and predictable story imaginable, but if the characters are well written and the plot is well executed, then people will like it.

When cuff goes all butterflies it reminds me of the beast in the magicians. Great show if you never saw it and definitely a better and more entertaining antagonist.
