you dont have to disable the parking brake to replace the brake pads, only when the discs need replacement. The handbreak is engraved in the rear side of the disc. since he didnt replace the disc you dont have to disengage it :)
@desp1se. Technically you do have to retract the parking brake. It's on the brake calipers on newer VWs. Also if retracting it with the computer you do not have to turn the piston in, can just push it.
@@Gwape_Jam Even my 2008 Audi A4 already requires you to do this. Without the scan tool you can't fully push back the Caliper. Even for a brake pad change.

I have a 2017 Mustang ecoboost with the performance package (bigger brakes). I bought it brand new and it now has 72k miles on it. I have not touched the brakes. I've checked the pad wear a few times since June 2017 and they were always good. I'm guessing it will need pads fairly soon but the brakes work well and they don't squeak.
This modern vehicle would probably have electronic parking brakes. So it's fully on when it's on and the car would not be able to move. You're thinking of the old school manual ones that can be left partially on and those don't engage the pads, they engage brake shoes in the Rotor
I was curious about this car, and googled: "A warranty letter was delivered to customers in 2023 stating that their rear brake pad warranty had been extended due to the possibility of premature wear. It affects certain 2020-2023 Model Year Jetta and 2022-2023 Model Year Taos vehicles, and the German automaker has claimed that the material may be excessively worn and/or a workmanship issue during installation."
I noticed in the 2018 Civic Si, stability assist will activate the rear brakes in a few different scenarios. I used to drive with it off all of the time until I got a new tune, which I thought then the VSA was basically not doing anything anymore. Turns out it was still doing what it was designed to do. I rolled through 3 sets of rears for one set of fronts....... Turn off VSA? No more problems. This is daily driving (spiritedly) One of the scenarios is heavy braking. It applies pressure so all the weight doesn't throw itself to the front. Turning is another scenario.
Needing brakes that soon, perhaps it has a recall or good will on the brakes. Had that with a Honda years ago. Brakes wore out quickly on that particular accord, dealer replaced for free.
Volkswagen tech here! Newer vw's have a tendancy to go through rear brakes faster than most other models, I believe its due to a softer composition in the pads but am not positive. multiple 30k miles taos's tiguan's and atlas's have had just rear brakes done recently at my dealer.
Correct me if i'm wrong but the newer Volkwagens with normal braking uses the rear more the prevent nose dive and thus increase comfort. Also if equipped with adaptive cruise control is uses the rear brakes. My neighbor had a Audi A5 company car without ACC and his collegues did have ACC and all his collegues had the rear brake pads done way earlier. Also wanted to mention that the brake pad box in this video is so over the top lol.
My front brakes on my '22 Taos were replaced under warranty due to "premature wear". Same applied for some model Jettas. Then I did my rears myself not too long ago.
FYI...it's always a good idea to pop the reservoir cap of BEFORE pushing the pistons back in, some cars are sensitive to the reverse pressure and can cause the low fluid switch to jamb...happened to me. It did manage to unstick itself after about 50 miles but that's not really helpful when working on someone else's car in a parking lot, they'll just think you broke it.
They should NEVER be over full unless some OCD knucklehead tops it off between brake pad changes. The reservoir is designed to hold enough fluid to compensate for the piston displacements when all for corners completely wear out the pads, and then some. If flushing following a single axle pad replacement, only fill it to the same level it was, not to the MAX.

I’ve taken two cars this year to Bessinger‘s automotive in Pacific Missouri, and both cars came back with new squeaks and alternator problems that they noticed 🎉🎉🎉😢
Just a quick clarification. The trick that maybe you need new brakes if the fluid is low only works for disc brakes. For vehicles with rear drum brakes, this trick won't help as it doesn't use more fluid to engage worn drum brakes. That being said, it is easily possible to get 100k out of rear drum brakes...
Further proof of why I hate having disc brakes in the rear. They've always worn poorly on every single car I've owned that had them. Give me brake drums in the rear any day. The ONLY exception has been my Prius.
If a tire and brake place is telling you that you need brakes and they aren't making the "Need Brakes" noise which happens when you have new brakes, they are trying to sell you something you don't need. Usually when your brakes are bad, you slam on the brakes and the car is still moving, you need brakes. Wish the shop would tell you which end you need the brakes on, front, back or both.
Was working on a 23 VW like a month ago and the car had 23k miles on it. Rear brakes were almost metal to metal. So idk might be a factory issue. I believe the customer got some money back from VW.
That guy that swung by I feel that even though he knew about your work that he could've be a little more respectful when it came to the language cause some people bleep it out while others may leave it in depending on their preference.
So here is the thing. The brakes are used for traction control. I bet she does jackrabbit starts so they are likely getting used a lot to prevent wheel spin. Also modern pads don't have have squealers on them often because there isn't room for them due to multi-piston and and squeal hardware. Good honest shop that was trying to help her from having amore expensive repair down the road.
I’m teaching my kids how to work on cars by taking in work to do in our farm shop. I run every vin through the NHTSI website to check for recalls and check Alldata for warranty extensions. I would have sent her to VW to get that job done for free under the warranty extension, and since I don’t have the license for VW on my scanner, it would have needed to go to the dealer to be calibrated anyways.
They told me the same thing about my Jetta at 10,000 miles. I declined any new brakes. My next oil change they told me the brakes were defective from the factory and they needed to replace them for free covered under warranty…
Just so you people know, you don’t need a scan tool, but it’s easier. You can take the electric motor off the back with metric allen wrenches, and you can then use a metric allen wrench to turn the screw in the center as you turn the piston back in. After assembly you turn that center screw until it locks the brake, then back it off a half turn and put the electric motor back on, job done.
Love your channel bro! Best on TH-cam ! Wish I lived in your service area I need the optispark and water pump changed in my 95 z28 . It’s a little too intimidating for me

Always remove some brake fluid before you compress the calipers. I have a turkey baster from Dollar Tree just for this. On older cars I want new brake fluid anyway, so I remove all most all of it. Then compress them, reassemble and remove the rest of the old fluid and add new then bleed.
@@klwthe3rd I've found that the closest thing still available is the sunroof motor from the mid 90s Jaguar xj models but it would require a retrofit mounting. Its the electronic module that usually fails, or the actuator gears break in my case.

Hey Mr. Parker, my dashboard brake warning light came on two days ago. The same warning light sprung up about two years ago (Nov. 2022,) and the brakes were done at that time. It's hard to say based off of just a dash light. Are you hearing any noise or feeling turbulence when you use your brakes? The light could indicate anything from worn pads, low brake fluid, faulty parking brake or even just a burnt bulb. It's best to take it to a trustworthy mechanic if that light is on because it is always better to be safe rather than sorry when it comes to vehicles. (Especially a Kia)

the fluid check is a thing of beauty. great tip.
I was a mechanic for about 15 years. The only free tools I ever got were pocket screwdrivers
This is daily driving (spiritedly)
One of the scenarios is heavy braking. It applies pressure so all the weight doesn't throw itself to the front. Turning is another scenario.
Those little Quick Look’s never pay
Needing brakes that soon, perhaps it has a recall or good will on the brakes. Had that with a Honda years ago. Brakes wore out quickly on that particular accord, dealer replaced for free.
I actually worked with a shop that the big O always sponsored us with anything and everything to help us complete jobs...
Helping a business out & good advertisement for O'Reillys.
It's amazing how you treat everyone. From the young lady at first, to Busta Rymes. Treats everyone the same love it.
There was a recall for this from VW!
true
The car came with organic brake pads??? What?!?
Was thinking the same thing
Trust me, shes definitely drying the hell out of them brakes. Have you seen how they drive?
Good tip on the fluid.
Over full conditions is why I keep a turkey baster in my toolbox. Great for sucking out xs fluid.

Oreillys, sponsor this man! Hes doing amazing work and treating people beyond incredible
I take it that you have the gen 2 stubby? Milwaukee really upgraded the torque on the new drill
I’ve taken two cars this year to Bessinger‘s automotive in Pacific Missouri, and both cars came back with new squeaks and alternator problems that they noticed 🎉🎉🎉😢
Matt, which camera are you using? and can we get landscape view please. I enjoy the content, keep grinding.
What always burns me is the "pads and rotors". When it's just pads. If at all.
Further proof of why I hate having disc brakes in the rear. They've always worn poorly on every single car I've owned that had them. Give me brake drums in the rear any day. The ONLY exception has been my Prius.
You say that until you have to stop on a dime while going 70 on the freeway.
That guy that swung by I feel that even though he knew about your work that he could've be a little more respectful when it came to the language cause some people bleep it out while others may leave it in depending on their preference.
brother just wanted to chat and he wanted a second opinion from a true bro.
Good Job Parker 🎉🎉🎉
So here is the thing. The brakes are used for traction control. I bet she does jackrabbit starts so they are likely getting used a lot to prevent wheel spin. Also modern pads don't have have squealers on them often because there isn't room for them due to multi-piston and and squeal hardware. Good honest shop that was trying to help her from having amore expensive repair down the road.
Every time I have my seasonal tires changed they tell me I need brakes.
"Does oreilly give you free stuff?" Maybe a free First Call light or magnet lmao
Tyre shops trying to upsell brakes, why am I not surprised...
They told me the same thing about my Jetta at 10,000 miles. I declined any new brakes. My next oil change they told me the brakes were defective from the factory and they needed to replace them for free covered under warranty…
Doesn’t the epb need to be turned in or go to maintence mode before you do the job. Unless you already did.
It’s a little too intimidating for me
Something else had to be wrong to wear out rear brakes that quick. The rears should last for 2-3 front break pad changes. Makes no sense they were wore. Either stuck calipers, malfunctioning parking break, or someone drove it with the parking break on.
it's those dumb "screw in" caliper pistons that burn your rear brakes up.....
I’ve always watch your my friend I’ve learned a lot of things even though I do desame stuff now I can’t do things anymore coz I’ve had a stroke twice Parker stay safe n god bless sir…
That damn tow truck drove his van off the road
My favorite thing working on cars for the public was when I could tell them, "Good news, my estimate was a couple hundred bucks off. (pause a beat) In your favor. . ."
Man wish you was out here in Arizona😂😂
I have that 3/8 fuel impact and it is the perfect balance of power and weight. Best tool I've bought in a long time. With just the regular XC 3.0 batteries it zips through lug nuts like nothing.
Always remove some brake fluid before you compress the calipers. I have a turkey baster from Dollar Tree just for this. On older cars I want new brake fluid anyway, so I remove all most all of it. Then compress them, reassemble and remove the rest of the old fluid and add new then bleed.
matthew "here's the deal" parker
I had to replace the pads on my 2021 Jetta at 25K miles, the service guy was like yeah thats a known issue on these cars. No one ever told me!
Hey Parker whats your recommendation on dealing with discontinued parts? I cant seem to find a sunroof motor for an old 90's buick regal
I have a 1993 Buick Regal with the optional power sunroof. You will have to check junk yards to find that rare part. Luckily mine still works.
@@klwthe3rd I've found that the closest thing still available is the sunroof motor from the mid 90s Jaguar xj models but it would require a retrofit mounting. Its the electronic module that usually fails, or the actuator gears break in my case.
Avoid having oil changed at Jiffy Lube. My local one tried to sell me new brake pads that were absolutely not needed. Got a second opinion from the dealer - they have many thousands of miles left on them.
Hey Mr. Parker, my dashboard brake warning light came on two days ago. The same warning light sprung up about two years ago (Nov. 2022,) and the brakes were done at that time. Its a 2007 Kia sedan and 100 percent of my driving is urban stop & go traffic and short hops. Could I already need brakes done again, just two years later? Please give me your opinion and advice before I take it to a shop. I'm pushing 70 and a single old lady and I just don't want to get ripped off. Thanks.
For my rear brakes, I was not aware I needed a special tool. I was able to use a big flathead screwdriver to twist it back in.
So many people don't know that if it's low don't add check da brakes
I bought a caliper tool a few months ago,,I lent it out and the guy didnt figure it out.lol..
