I have been having the same problem for a long time now with a 2005 Toyota Sienna LE, and the squeeling noise is only on the start up and with the AC on the On mode. The squeeling noise only goes on for like 20 seconds and then it goes away, and the noise will not return as long as the vehicle is still warm. In the past, I've taken it to several name brand mechanic places and they have all failed to take care of this issue. What I am going to try and do myself is follow the steps that you give and tighten up that serpentine belt. As a matter of fact, I just checked the belt today and it is not as tight as you show on the video. So tomorrow, I will follow your steps and see if that corrects the issue that I am having with this squeeling noise. Thanks for sharing! UPDATE: It was exactly as you said in this video! I had to do the loosening up and retightening of the bolts twice, but I finally got that annoying screeching sound fixed! Thanks a million!!!
Here's what I did to fix mine. Take an old tooth brush with soapy water and carefully (be careful not to get hands too close) scrub the belt on the inside surface while it is running. That will improve the grip of the belt against the pulleys. Assuming the belt is tight of course and mine was tight. It may be wore some and need replacement eventually but cleaning the belt of oil and grease seemed to fix it for the time being.
This has been my problem. When my belt starts squealing I’ll go look at the sides or back of my truck for oil spots. Most hoses are under pressure so a loose hose clamp will be loose. Under pressure power steering, oil cooler, transmission cooler line is leaking getting on the belt. Ill find that leak and fix it by tightening the clamp.. once my power steering pump cap was leaking.. I leave car off and spray a pulley that has ribs with armor all car detailer. It conditions the belt. Then I turn on the engine. You got to find out why the belt is slipping. If you find a leak anywhere around the accessories fix it. If you have no leaks still spray the pulley with ribs. If it stops then check your belt. Dayco belts are cheap and when new will squeal.
Thank you for this video, my car was doing the same thing and I could never figure out what it was. I fixed it today by looking at this video. The belt needed too be more tighter. Thank you
I had the same problem and massive power steering leak from high pressure line and pump, I'm at 160k, doesn't surprise me. The power steering belt was OG Toyota 1998 and it's 2023. Was cracked but still didn't break. Great car, never give up on them, they will roll forever.
I had this issue. That is improper belt tensioning. I had my alternator, serpentine belt, and battery changed out. This issue came up and when I blasted my AC it would also make that noise as well as cold starts. The belt is slipping and is not properly tensioned. You need to get this fixed ASAP as if you do not your alternator will break in 5-6 months like it did mine. Especially if you did not have this issue prior to a new belt its likely not tensioned properly have a mechanic redo this over and over on cold starts till the noise goes away. Also, side note my VVTI camp shaft its a part in the toyota engine broke as well likely due to this issue. So let this be a lesson learned for all of you that you need to get this fixed ASAP. The VVTI toyota parts and the things connected to the serpentine belt as well as anything that is connected to starting a car can break....and its not cheap...
Great video. I am having similar issue with my car (Screeching sound while starting my car in the morning. The sound stays for 3 to 4 seconds and then goes away and does not appear for the rest of the day (I do multiple start/stop in a day because of multiple activities such as school run, going to office & coming back, school pickup etc..). I did check this issue with the Halfords and they were unable to identify the problem. I've even recorded the sound coming from under the bonnet and played it back to the Halfords Service Centre. Unfortunately they were unable to identify the issue. The interesting fact is that I did a full service (cost me £230) with the Halfords on 8th March'23 and this issue started appearing after the servicing. I am not sure if this is a coincidence or they have messed it up during the servicing of my car.

This has been driving me insane on my 2002 toyota solara. It is very embarrassing to get out of work and start my car and it squeals so loud. I have replaced both the alternator belt and power steering belt and it is still squealing! Is there some sort of specific torque it needs? I must not have it tight enough??
Thanks. I'm hoping it isn't my ac compressor because my ac on the 07 yaris I'm trying to sell, it's actually amazing at how powerful the ac still is... Issue is, it makes A LOT of noise randomly.. And it's fucking LOUD when it squeaks
Hey I have a 1996 Tahoe 5.7L with A/C, single belt system. Belt is good and snug. I get a steady and loud squealing noise when the truck is idling AND the A/C or defrost is on. If I turn the A/C on with it running above 1,500 rpms it will not squeal unkess I let the RPMs fall back down to near-idle speed. But if I turn on A/C and then increase RPMs it keeps squealing. The compressor clutch will turn easily by hand when truck is off, but it's not loose. It turns but won't spin after I push it or anything like that. No oil or anything wet around the compressor. Blows cold air. Squeal stops immediately when knob turns vents off Defrost or A/C button is turned off. And returns immediately when activated again. I also noted my Battery Gauge drops from 14 volts to 11.5 volts when the truck A/C compressor clutch or belt squeals. Almost like the whole pulley system is being slowed by the A/C engaging. I'm going to ohm test the clutch to make sure it reads 2ohm or higher, but other than that, what can I try to verify what's bad? Should I spray a little light oil like WD40 on the front of the A/C clutch? One guy did that online and it stopped his squeal, but that was a different make vehicle.

@@nirmalkayastha103 could be bad tensor however did u match up the belt to see if it was same size or bit smaller
Have done everything I have changed the pulley, changed the belt twice and adjusted tensor but still didn’t worked
@@nirmalkayastha103 It is a problem that it happens in same Mazda cars... For example, in my Mazda Protege. Could you fix it ? What was the problem ?.
Try turning your ignition on for 3-5 seconds THEN START THE CAR. No squeak that way
I am facing the same exact issue in my car. Why does it happen to begin with? How does it become loose i mean. Thanks for the video. Subscribed
Lionsclub over time belt gets weaker wears out stretches and degrades so if ur belt is old replace it
@@RBTheMechanic Really appreciate the reply and advice. Thank you so much 😊
Hi, would this Avalon be similar to a 2013 Lexus es 350? I am having a similar issue.
I only hear the squaking noise randomly when I turn the A/C to lowest temperature, if I keep it at let's say 22 degrees, then there is no squaking noise.. do you think this is the same issue?
Not same but similar
@@RBTheMechanic Could it be the compressor?
Or what is an obvious sign that it is the compressor? Thanks for the feedback
@@kjarrad what do mean ? This is video on belt and squeak what issue ru having?
what if the belt is not lose , do i just need to get it replaced ?
Yup it could be stretched out belt or bad tensioner
@@RBTheMechanic thank you , i will have it look are
How do I tell the mechanic that put this on that the belt is loud. It's a new belt and it is loud
Then u have to adjust it if it got adjusted like this video u can’t add this mechanism what year car u got
@@RBTheMechanic I have a 2004 Nissan quest built out as a camper. Everything I ask for them to fix they jack the cost up to over $2000 even to tighten a belt they put on $500
What is the belt called again?
Serpentine belt this car has 2 belts alternator and power steering depends on the car u got some most have 1
If mine slightly squeaks when its Hot in Az does that mean the belt id lose?
Yes spray windex on start up when it makes noise if it changes sound that’s what it is
@@RBTheMechanic thank you alot bro!!
I have no idea where those bolts are or what to tighten.
What car u have
Great info and video! Thank you!
Yup thank you
Me pasa lo mismo con un Nissan Versa 2015, cada vez que giro el guíe o prendo el ac, hace ese mismo ruido. Ya verifique la polea y esta bien. No se qué hacer.
Sorry I only know english
The same thing happens to me with a 2015 Nissan Versa, every time I turn the steering wheel or turn on the ac, it makes that same noise. I already checked the pulley and it's okay. I do not know what to do.
@@Matatanpr7 replace the belt if they r old usually the belt gets stretched
Could a low battery cause this same noise?
@@fearnest9617 I never had that case so I doubt it
Ever been on a date go back to your car start it up and your belts start screaming? So embarrassing 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lmao been there but yeah fix that

My car have a noise right when a turn on the AC help . only the AC is on, no noise if only the engine is on also no noise but if both engine and AC are on that's when there is a noise???????? Help
Well that noise might be related to belts or ac compressor
I have a diffrent issue.. there is a noise while switch ON the Ac only. Is this the same issue with it? Or diffrent?
Describe me the noise
@@RBTheMechanic
When I start the car there is nothing noisy but right after turn on Ac there is a noise from the engine side. Also not sure from engine or any part of it.
@@RBTheMechanic

Exactly the same noise 👆
@@saranyams7443 that noise is pully it can be ac compressor or idler any pully that’s running with belt u can check like he did and take off the belt with engine off and turn each bearing pully and see which one makes noise gonna have to do some physical diagnostic
@@RBTheMechanic
Thanks a lot .. it was very helpful 🙏
Very well explained good video, we have the same problem i was driving with my father and then this noises showed up when i opened the AC then we got rid of everything all the accesorries including wipers and all stuff just to get home was raining likr crazy today. I hope this will fix our car problem and im also pretty sure that our car have a very old belt.
Can you make a video that you will change a belt? 😃
When I get this job to do it I will make video on it haven’t seen the customer he comes in summer time
My belt only squeals when engine is cold but when I run it for abt 5-10 minutes it goes away. Please help
Yes that’s the case of loose or bad belt
What if my Nissan rouge is squealing like this only when I accelerate and blowing hot air from AC?
Bad belt replace the belt and about ac blowing hot check fuses and pressure in ac system
@@RBTheMechanicTY I really appreciate your response!
I'm also in Houston. Where are you located ... incase it's not the fuse? ...cos imma need AC stat!! :)

Hey buddy, im having the same noise but only when the AC is turned on, when i turned off the AC, noise is gone but once turned on, noise is coming
Possibility the belt or tensioner depends on the set up
I have the same problem( only with AC on )
How do you fix the problem ?
Compressor needs to be checked. @@MDEV-86x86
my car squeaks only when sitting until you start driving, then it stops, i turn on the ac and the squeaking is so loud, then i drive for about 1 min and it stops completely
Sounds like bad or loose belt which slips when it got load on it
I have that noise when accelerating a montero sport 2001 and it eat out the belt two times
Check if anything is jammed like pullies
I have a different noise, my ac makes a noise when I’m at a stop light but goes away when I’m hitting the gas, it’s a rattling noise
Check ur idle rpm when ur stopped if it’s below 7-800 that might be the problem or engine mounts
@@RBTheMechanic where should it be at so I know, I’m going to check that today when the sun comes up
@@newgrandorder the engine mounts?
@@RBTheMechanic if I change the engine mounts shouldn’t I change them all?
@@RBTheMechanic how do I do that? I don’t know much about cars but I’m learning
But why it is happening only during the cold start
Yes on cold start it dose that temperature effects components it’s just how it is
You can put an extension ontop of another extension on another extension to get to the bolt Lol 😁
Hey it happens when I steer the wheel what does that mean
Belt is prolly old and loose stretched replace it
@@RBTheMechanic question what happens if the bell breaks does it like damage the engine completely or the AC does not work
My Mazda Protege have the same problem but only with AC on.
Oh ok possability bad belt
@@RBTheMechanic No, It is new.
We same problem but I don’t to fix cuz im scared to touch anything to my car cuz this is mu first car
Von siojo take it to ur local trusted mechanic at least u have an idea of what it is
if u dont know what your doing..dont even try
Finally found the issue I have a Honda 2001 and my car does the same thing when I turn on the ac , heater, or defroster
Honda is diffrent set up but it got adjustments if u think belts are old or haven’t changed in years replace them
Thanks for the video!
Hey dude. Great video I have this issue when turning ON my car. I bought it used ( can't return ) I don't know anything really about cars but I checked it and saw the belt seemed new ( yes it had all the numbers) I'm guessing it's adjusting? Anyways thanks for this great vid
Do belt test I will send u link to another video I spray the belt soon as start up noise goes away that will determine bad belt

Omg i love u posted this video i cam across it. See if have this saaame issue exactly with my car its an 06 nissan sentra but mine at times also does that screech when it starts cold.. Or here and there thru out the day when i start it up.. I took it to a mechanic and he heard it with ac and stuff and said it could be the Air Compressor? Should i get a second opinion?
Get a second opinion
lol we had a long drive and thing thing just pops up. im glad we had the same noise.. sad thing is its holly week so no tech is avaialble.. but great to know its just the belt.
Aww ok yeah it’s king weekend we’ll be safe till u find a mechanic
I hear this same noise when I start my car and the AC or heater blower is on. I can turn off the blower and the noise goes away. I have also opened the hood, started the car and listened for the noise. It is coming from the passengers side. When I turned off the car, the chirping noise continued for several seconds. Any idea why? Thank you.
Nancy Ensley what kinda car u got seems like belts if ur belts are on that side it’s mostly is the belts
no is not,,is a pulley
@@RBTheMechanic i have a kia sorento 2005 i have same issue as Nancy. I’m thinking it’s the belt too. I checked and the belt was loose not sure if it’s too loose though 🤷🏼♀️
