    Ren has said that he is not particularly religious but finds interest in the stories people tell about religion. I think that's why he uses a lot of religious imagery in his lyrics as a means of communicating his feelings of helplessness.

      Yeah, in Eden he explicitly states that he’s agnostic. As a storyteller, he dips into all religions because these stories are humans trying to make sense of the world around them, and there’s real beauty in that.

    Something that’s occurred to me after listening to his Chapters series that preceded this series is that he’s maybe saying that the “first time beauty for this gift of gold” is that his illness & pain are gifts because he could use them to reach others, and when he says “yours to hold” he’s not referring to God so much as his audience. Maybe I’m reading into it, but that’s the joy of music, it allows us all to take what we need from it. 💜

    With great power comes great responsibility, and Ren is truly a hero! He is using his growing powers and platform for so much more than simply creating brilliant music. Ren has said that he always had this feeling that he was meant to change the world for the better. So much that he defiantly yelled a challenge to evil into an empty room. And then he got sick…
    Ren has now shared the full story of his health journey in 8 video chapters leading up to the release of this song and what a journey it has been. If anyone hasn’t already watched them, I highly recommend you do. With all the chapters he is showing immense strength in sharing his story that is so hard to tell, being vulnerable and telling it because he hopes it will help others and raise awareness. And here he is with another rendition of that story, now told through music with a fire beat and delivering a message of hope. A beautiful hero that the world needs ❤️🐰🕳️

    Great reaction as usual, and your post song breakdowns are always so on point and well articulated, it's like you read my mind on this one..lol, kudos my man, well done!! Oh, and before too many people get on here falling all over themselves to tell you that it was Vera Hall, not Moby, know that your instincts were correct. Ren sampled the same thing Moby did, with just some different effects added to it. Fun fact, if Moby wouldn't have asked the Library of Congress to agree to let him sample Vera singing "Trouble So Hard" for Natural Blues, promising that he'd use her voice respectfully, nobody would have ever known who she was, unless you were heavy into early 20th century Alabama folk music.
    The song was taught to Vera as a child by her mother, who was a slave and sang it as a negro spiritual, Vera's version was recorded in 1937 a Capela by John Lomax for the Library of Congress. Her husband died a couple years after they married and her only child, her daughter, died of pneumonia at the age of 20. Vera made a name from her singing for a slight time, but never made a living out of it, and passed away in the mid 1960s, it is unknown where she is buried, it's believed the make shift cemetery she was laid to rest at was bull dozed over in the 70's. Moby sampling her song, sparked renewed interest in her music and life story, and why I even know this little bit of information about her. Kinda makes sense why Ren was drawn to her songs, ya know.
    Weirdest twist to the whole story, Moby's real name, Richard Melville Hall, obviously no relation though.
    Sorry for rambling, but I've been a sub for a little while now, and I know you appreciate back stories such as these, take care! ✌💚

    What’s wild is he got the stem cell treatment that really helped him because he’d been vlogging in chronic disease communities about the pain he was going through. A doctor in the US came across it and offered him a $25,000 stem cell treatment for free if he promised to keep talking about his experience… which clearly he is doing. He’s still receiving treatment for mast cell activation disorder, which is like the body is very allergic to almost anything, which is a side effect of Lyme disease lasting so long in his body and breaking down so much, but his primary Lyme disease was well treated by that generous stem cell treatment donation.

    • @ratmackay
      @ratmackay 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Slight correction...Ren's MCAS may have been triggered by any number of treatments that he tried to treat his symptoms from Lyme...or he might have developed it anyway without any of that and all of those supplements and meds simply worsened it.
      There's an as-yet-undefined genetic link between POTS, MCAS, hEDS, and neurodivergent conditions like ADHD (which Ren has said he has)...so...yeah...may or may not be related to the Lyme itself directly. (Not talking out of my ass here: I've got the whole alphabet soup of nasty and nearly every neurodivergent person I know has at least one of the conditions I mentioned and it seems to be that if you have one, your likelihood of developing another increases. I started with only having hEDS on top of being AuDHD...then after years of various supplements, creams, medicines to treat chronic pain from having a body held together by extra loose rubber bands...MCAS joined the party...while I struggled to find a diet that didn't make my MCAS flare as badly, the restrictive diet and not getting adequate nutrients meant that POTS crashed the same party. Because doctors don't really know enough about neurodivergence, they haven't caught on to it being one star out of a constellation of co-occuring conditions and don't automatically do the genetic testing to determine what else is going on and proactively treat other things until it becomes closing the gate after all the horses have already bolted.)

    ❤❤❤ So glad to see your handsome face! Hope all is well with you friend I get to thinking about you when I dont see you for a bit. I find it still amazes me at 39 years old to see the game telephone at its finest. Taking just some of what is said out of context without looking at the whole book if ya get what im saying by some of the answers put out there. Anyway Ren has never actually verbalized his beliefs. Its open to interpretation honestly. It means anyway can take anything he has said at any point and interpret it to mean for them what they need out of it, like with all his music he loves that everyone interprets his music differently to make it resignate with them. This song was Rens conclusion to his life until today. That he has said. One thing I know is that he has gone from one side of the extreme in beliefs to the exact opposite through his journey with his pain at times not believing, at times believing at times begging and ither times questioning even at a point feeling close to the devil. obviously at the end of this song the end of this period of his life he shows us as well as tells us where his faith is. Take it how ya will sweetheart. Again this only my opinion from what I personally have heard from Rens mouth only either his music or his streams or shorts or interviews so its my interpretation. ❤❤❤ ok adhd rant over lol sorry! Didn't realize you were a bar breakdown channel, 🤣🤣🤣. Great job. In the end, where he says Lord I forgive you, in part is because he had cursed the gods for his unrelenting pain. He had a huge spiritual battle all the years of suffering. So he no longer blames him and is turning it back over to him to hold. That's my interpretation anyway. He doesn't disbelieve in God. He just doesn't know. He's dabbled in many religions in his health journey.

    This is my first time on your channel and that was some intro singing Vera Hall like that! Red bought the rights from the family. Yes, Bobby remix the version as well. I’m not sure if red remixed Moby version or if he did the original version. Either way amazing powerful song to be used in the background.. it’s an old Lavery song that her family sang about Hope getting through the days and Ren said it had such an impact on him when he heard it that he gave him hope and helped him getting through his days! You should really watch his eight chapters that he released leading up to this song, he just sits at a microphone and spills his guts, so vividly that you feel like you’re there with him. He’s an amazing poet and has decided to be so open and vulnerable about his disease and hope that he can help somebody else that is searching for answers like he was. He said it would’ve really helped him mentally if there were more stories of hope at the time for people with similar conditions, auto immune diseases in particular. In these situations, your immune system attack itself. If it’s caught early on, usually a cycle of antibiotics will knock it out of you however, it’s often misdiagnosed at the longer you go on with your body attacking itself the worst the repercussions he said every time he asked for blood test, they told him it was just in his head, and wanted to give him some anti-depressants. If they would’ve given him the proper blood test, they would’ve saved them years and years of discouragement and pain. The craziest part for me is the fact that halfway through the second year, he told his mother, if there was no solution by the end of the year, he would not be around for a third year! Imagine having to tell your mother that you’re gonna take your own life if there’s no solution by the years end. It took his best friend, jumping off a bridge and witnessing the negative impact that it had on his family. He knew that he could not put his own mother through this, so we’re just have to wait for the disease to take his life. He has some solace in the fact that he was pretty sure it would happen relatively quickly. Little did he know it would be seven more years of suffering before he even had a proper diagnosis. This man has an incredible amount of pallet, strength, and intestinal fortitude as well as compassion.! so I enjoyed your review. Sorry the comment is so long. I enjoyed your review. I’m looking forward to checking out another one..

    Personally i think Ren was intentionally vague(?) In the last lines. He definitely flucuates between spiritual and nihilistic and agnostic. The "Lord i forgive you " serms like a huge step for Ren since he spent so long blaming or questioning God i feel a sense of acceptance of the gift of the perspective his illness gave him that now enriches his music and allows him to help others.
    Checj out the Chapters he posted on Renmakesstuff . I felt like a witness to all of it. He was very detailed abd vunerable in order to give hope and show others that he sees them.

    @JoeYo77 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If you were to ask him if he is a man of God at this point, I’m not sure if he even knows himself. In my mind, he was once a man of God, and then he entered the YB phase and had a lot of resentment that his friends were all out having fun and let their life and he was basically being tortured for no reason for so long, but I feel that this song is him expressing that he maybe has changed his mind and realized that he wouldn’t be able to give us the quality in caliber of music that he does and help amount of people that he does if he didn’t go through what he did! So I believe that he is coming around on something similar to a God. A higher being. If nothing else, I believe he certainly has become spiritual.
