Yeah, anyone I know who plays WoW (retail or classic) does so without music or ambience. I've never understood it, but then I don't think any of them are players who appreciate environments and immersion - they are more serious raiders/PvPers. Whereas I'm pretty much only solo PvE.
Well... Music is great and gorgeous to listen to, but the sad truth is, you don't have an orchesta pllaying beautiful music when you are killing 10 wolves for a quest, so I wouldn't call this "immersion". If you truly want to have immersion, you'd have to shut the music off
the only time i play without music or sound, is if i'm working on gathering professions or fishing, or even questing, but that's usually because i've got podcasts going. if i'm sitting in say Boralus...i've got game music turned on, because of 6:30 and 23:20 alone. two of the most epic themes in BfA alone IMO.
I'd like to imagine there's a warcraft music developer that put their ENTIRE SOUL into this music only for the company to crumble around him. We hear you, music person, we hear you and we love you.
That would probably be Glenn Stafford to be honest. The guy has been a part of Blizzard since 1993 and founded the sound department back then, and he's still making music for Blizzard games, after almost 30 years. I mean, that guy made legendary music like the Warcraft 2 OST and the Starcraft OST and is still pumping quality tracks like "Classic Battle E" at 6:33, guy is a legend. Surprised to see him still working there.
I don't see what the company or anything of that sort has to do with all of this. This artist poured their souls into this music and we all came here to enjoy its beauty, so let us just enjoy this incredible piece of art instead of making negative remarks at things unrelated to the music.
The World in BfA felt so alive. The music, the environment in both sound and visuals as well as the NPCs made the zones feel great. I miss Kul'Tiras and Zandalar.
As a WoW player, I always played horde. Mostly because it felt like I belonged there as an orc... but then BfA came... and Kul Tiras became a real place... the music matches the environment so perfectly it felt like the home I had grown up with and wanted to stay in forever. I will always be a fisherman's and a Marine's kid, I live by the will of the sea. To everyone that struck a note, designed a hair on the forearm of a Kul Tiran sailor, or designed a building in Boralus... thank you for bringing my home into a new and beautiful fantasy life.
Already nostalgia on this one for me. People who played Warcraft 2 from 1995 had been asking for a pretty long time about Kul Tiras and to see it fully realized from WoW's point of view with detail that prespective can bring. Getting to have details of their culture, architecture and other art styles. Man this theme FELT on point.
Yeah BFA wasn't great overall but Kul'Tiras is hands down my favorite continent. Drustvar and Tiragarde Sound in particular are amazing, they are some of the most beautiful zones in any game ever imo.
47:31 - this is the most amazing experience I have ever had listening to video game music. I remember winding down from a long day, quite frankly a long year... and standing in Boralus. And this variant of the music came on. I had been playing the xpac for almost 3 weeks at this point, and had not once heard this play before. And it sang to me... I turned off the sound effects, sat there with my eyes closed, and just wept. I never have a space or time to free myself of my bottled frustrations. The emotion and intensity in this piece is outstanding, and its extremely powerful. It's unreal the level of musicianship that goes into this game... very underrated music. To this day, every so often, I come back to that little piece of music and put it on repeat for about 15 minutes and just have a mental release.
Wow music is so underrated and amazing, epic, magical, peaceful, and immersive. Some music I listen to to just calm down like that, exploring the old world and listening to the music and nature makes me feel more at home then actual earth.
The atmosphere & ambience of the zones really made you feel like it was a real living world. 25:01 is one of my favorite songs here. I remember vividly hearthing back to Boralus after a long night of raiding and still seeing so many people online at 1am (peak quarantine) it truly felt like I was returning back to port for my character to repair his armor, kick up his legs and enjoy a frothy pint at the tavern and watch as busy adventurers get to where the next battle was.
Battle of Dazar'alor, Zandalar, warfront storylines, the booming music for tough sailors and ancient dinomancers alike There was a lot to bfa before Nazjatar wasnt there? I wish I could be there again

Honestly, Shadowlands has shown me how good we actually had it in BfA. NOT TO SAY IT WASN'T WITHOUT ITS ISSUES, but I'd take BfA any day over Shadowlands in a heartbeat

This expansion is by far where I got my best memories. I loved the raids, almost all of them, I loved every single zone in it's own way, the design, the music, the lore, everything. I spent so much time in Boralus I just realized I know every music part by heart. It felt right even with it's flaws.
Even though BFA wasn't the best expansion, the music and most of the zones, they still hold a special place in my heart and memories. The track that starts at 6:34 gave me instant chills. I was thrown back into 2019 almost instantly... That's when you know the artistic team really hit the spot.
I thoroughly enjoyed this expansion. Despite the critics, it reminds me of the best times with friends, where we went questing together and built unforgettable memories. Of course, the BFA soundtrack was the best!

Aside from that the music is just stunning and it feels great to have it all in one big video instead of having to look around for it. You know what I love about WoW? The fact that listening to this music a year or two after release you really only remember the good things. All the shit of the expansion just kind of gets forgotten. Like, I quite disliked BfA, but in hindsight it was really just the azerite and gameplay mechanics that made it suck. The music and art was phenomenal of course, but the story was actually not that bad either. Just some Sylvanas stuff that felt very Mary Sue-like. But the Kul Tiras story and zone substories were really neat.
The gameplay mechanics were largely fine it was just Azerite sucked ass in 8.0/1. 8.2 and 8.3 had a lot of decent content but the major problem was just slamming people into doing a million fucking dailies to advance their char. The dungeons were top notch though, some of the best in the game. The story stuff was decent, which is a surprise because WoW is typically on par with the writing of a kid who stuck a crayon up their nose. The premise of Pandaria, WLOD, and subsequently the source of the main conflict in Legion were all terrible (although Legion was seriously elevated by Suramar, the rest of it was pure stupid fuel).

I've been playing that long, too. And proudly play both sides. With Silvermoon and Suramar bith with the Horde (the most beautiful cities in game) I am so glad for the rough beauty of Kul Tiran architecture.

I'm so confused why people hate on BfA. I've been playing since early days, and got bored pre-BfA and hadnt played in a few years. Picked it up a little while back and I've never enjoyed playing so much! It's beautiful, it sounds amazing, and the story is actually interesting.
"Gilneas may be my mother but Kul Tiras is my true home" . My first experience with wow was leveling my mage worgen in 2021 post-Shadowlands in BFA old expansion as Alliance, fell in love with the place, ambient and soundtrack. So now Boralus is my reference and safe-place refering to the BIG wow open world, because technically I was born there as the rest of the universe of wow is just foreign to me.
I agree with OP. In hindsight, as many issues as BFA would have in the endgame, that first time levelling through and experiencing everything those rolling hills of Boralus had to offer was everything. The peak of quality content the game had to offer and a sense of home so far from everything else. My human paladin was 'born' in Duskwood (my first place enjoying levelling) but Kul Tiras is a home I never wanted to leave in the end. Honestly, if you can't enjoy the emotional attachment to this game, why are you playing it, Chrys? It's so much more meaningful like this.
Good to hear that WoW still manages to spark nostalgia for people who may not even have played that long. For me, Mulgore, Elwynn Forest and Dun Morogh are some of the most nostalgic places.
I remember starting in Shadowlands, played all the Campaign content until the "Grind" began, then my Veteran WoW friends pulled me out of Sl and pushed me into Kul'tiras, for Islands. Islands was infinitely more fun than the entirety of SL. The music helped the gameplay a lot.
"Come back with stories!" I love that line from Taelia. Brings a tear to my eye and gives me goosebumps, and the start of this music really puts me in the mood for adventure worth of stories.

I know people didn't enjoy it but I miss BFA just because it was an expansion of the actual world and personally I just absolutely loved the Alliance questing areas and Mechagon especially. I just wish one day I can revert time or relive the past. I can level through BFA now but it's obviously not the same as it was when it was the main expansion.
Bfa was bad. Literally every system they added into the game was awful, except Essences. Azerite, Azerite Armor, Azerite Reforging, Corruption, Island Expeditions, Warfronts, GCD changes etc... Warfronts were so bad that they literally abandoned them after the first patch, and they had 3-4 more of them planned for the expansion... they abandoned one of the main features of the expansion, in the first patch.. The only good patch in Bfa was 8.2, all the other patches were terrible. Like, how can you tell me 8.3 was not terrible? They added 2 "new" zones aka Vale of Eternal Blossoms and Uldum where you went to do boring dailies and terrible quests like "Kill 3 rares" which could sometimes take literal hours to finish. Corruption gear was a total nightmare. You are gonna add items into the game which can literally give you a 20% DPS increase, but there's no guaranteed way to get the items, they are randomly dropped... Oh and then they added the "Corruption Vendor" but for some goddamn reason they decided to put a rotation on it... The OST, the places, the raids were cool, yes, but that doesn't make up for all the garbage they created.
I've said it once and I'll say it again, the art team did a great job this expansion, kudos to them. Its too bad theres no substance in the actual gameplay these days though

After having played Warcraft 2 Tides of Darkness and reading about Kul Tiras, and then seeing the insanely powerful Kul Tiran military in Warcraft 3's the Frozen Throne special Horde campaign I always wanted to see Kul Tiras. I like the country. And love the flute music in Boralas. 🎶
Played horde in bfa and swapped to alliance in patch 8.1, and omg, I'm so glad I did it back then. Playing storyline for the horde and playing it for the alliance was absolutely two different experiences.. 6:35, whole patch having this vibe in my heart 💜

I'm so confused why people hate on BfA. I've been playing since early days, and got bored pre-BfA and hadnt played in a few years. Picked it up a little while back and I've never enjoyed playing so much! It's beautiful, it sounds amazing, and the story is actually interesting.
BFA had great leveling content, but the endgame was awful with tons of grinding and systems that were left abandoned after each new patch.
My GOD what a nice suite of music this is. O__O Really outdid themselves with this whole collection here. SO cinematic sounding.
"Gilneas may be my mother but Kul Tiras is my true home" . My first experience with wow was leveling my mage worgen in 2021 post-Shadowlands in BFA old expansion as Alliance, fell in love with the place, ambient and soundtrack. So now Boralus is my reference and safe-place refering to the BIG wow open world, because technically I was born there as the rest of the universe of wow is just foreign to me.

I agree with OP. In hindsight, as many issues as BFA would have in the endgame, that first time levelling through and experiencing everything those rolling hills of Boralus had to offer was everything. The peak of quality content the game had to offer and a sense of home so far from everything else. My human paladin was 'born' in Duskwood (my first place enjoying levelling) but Kul Tiras is a home I never wanted to leave in the end.
Honestly, if you can't enjoy the emotional attachment to this game, why are you playing it, Chrys? It's so much more meaningful like this.
Good to hear that WoW still manages to spark nostalgia for people who may not even have played that long. For me, Mulgore, Elwynn Forest and Dun Morogh are some of the most nostalgic places.

I remember starting in Shadowlands, played all the Campaign content until the "Grind" began, then my Veteran WoW friends pulled me out of Sl and pushed me into Kul'tiras, for Islands.
Islands was infinitely more fun than the entirety of SL. The music helped the gameplay a lot.

I know the entire Boralus-pirates-themes songs are brutal, but man, that "Classic Battle E" at 6:33 is a masterpiece.
"Come back with stories!" I love that line from Taelia. Brings a tear to my eye and gives me goosebumps, and the start of this music really puts me in the mood for adventure worth of stories.
Taelia is just too pure. Finding out about her dad will break her heart ;_;
This actually makes me feel bad for all the Hordies that didn't get to experience this music or this region... so much better than Zandalar.

I know people didn't enjoy it but I miss BFA just because it was an expansion of the actual world and personally I just absolutely loved the Alliance questing areas and Mechagon especially. I just wish one day I can revert time or relive the past. I can level through BFA now but it's obviously not the same as it was when it was the main expansion.

BfA was not bad, they just needed lower the farm aspect. The ost, the places, the raids...were cool
Bfa was bad. Literally every system they added into the game was awful, except Essences. Azerite, Azerite Armor, Azerite Reforging, Corruption, Island Expeditions, Warfronts, GCD changes etc... Warfronts were so bad that they literally abandoned them after the first patch, and they had 3-4 more of them planned for the expansion... they abandoned one of the main features of the expansion, in the first patch..
The only good patch in Bfa was 8.2, all the other patches were terrible. Like, how can you tell me 8.3 was not terrible? They added 2 "new" zones aka Vale of Eternal Blossoms and Uldum where you went to do boring dailies and terrible quests like "Kill 3 rares" which could sometimes take literal hours to finish. Corruption gear was a total nightmare. You are gonna add items into the game which can literally give you a 20% DPS increase, but there's no guaranteed way to get the items, they are randomly dropped... Oh and then they added the "Corruption Vendor" but for some goddamn reason they decided to put a rotation on it...
The OST, the places, the raids were cool, yes, but that doesn't make up for all the garbage they created.

This place probably had my favorite music and ambience in the expansion and was my favorite zone. One of the good things about battle for Azeroth.

After having played Warcraft 2 Tides of Darkness and reading about Kul Tiras, and then seeing the insanely powerful Kul Tiran military in Warcraft 3's the Frozen Throne special Horde campaign I always wanted to see Kul Tiras. I like the country. And love the flute music in Boralas. 🎶
Played horde in bfa and swapped to alliance in patch 8.1, and omg, I'm so glad I did it back then. Playing storyline for the horde and playing it for the alliance was absolutely two different experiences..
