I love your layering style. Looks simple n beautiful. The deer feels happy with fruits around. I see that you have other elements attached to your main picture. So creative. Tq
I really love the tree background! You always blow my mind Anna, the direction if branches matching the antlers and then fruits arranged in a circle 🤯🤯🤯 I learn so much about composition from you! 💙💙💙
Oh no! That’s not my intent - on the contrary I’d love to see-mystify the medium because it’s such a joy to work with 😊 I struggled with watercolors for years before finally getting more comfortable. I truly believe it’s a little bit of technique studies and a lot of just “feeling” the paint so over time everyone can get used to it ❤️ Thank you for your kind words!
Thank you so much! The calligraphy of this piece is stunning. The technique is so much more appealing to me than background washes. I'm eager to try it.
Really, so beautiful. I love your painting and your idea with the background. You are such an ispiration, and I just discovered you here on youtube. Thank you so very much. Ann from Norway
Thank you for this. Backgrounds are my nemeses! Unless I have pre planned and quick study etc etc. and yet I can still second guess if I have chosen the right one… I love how you layer and add detail yet still maintains that wonderful luminosity. Going to Pinterest and finding that inspiration is a fabulous idea. Going to try it.
Hello Anna! Your works are so beatiful and really inspiring, thank you so much for that! I have a question about the brushes you are using. I saw several brushes' reviews you did in the past and got impression that Escoda Reserva is your favorite brand (when talking about Kolinsky Sable). However I paid attention that quite often you use Winsor & Newton Serias 7. I am going to invest a bit into my new brushes and will be happy to get your advise what would you prefer in my case? Thank you in advance! Alexander.
Thank you Alexander 😊 Great question! Nothing beats real sable but it also has some serious issues with supply globally as they source it from particular areas in Russia / Asia. Which is why I typically get several when I see them available. A few years before the pandemic you couldn’t even get any sable brushes in Canada due to embargo’s. Then restrictions weee eased before the pandemic and I was able to get my hands on several Reservas. Sadly they run out around last spring. The only sable or squirrel I was able to get was WN in my local art store (I am weary of buying online). Series 7 is comparable in quality to Reserva but costs a lot more so my preference is Reserva always, and I am finally FINALLY! getting a few this spring 😊 I would say get either one Eacoda or WN but if you have a choice Escoda is priced a lot more reasonable for the same quality. Hope this makes sense!
I thought both of these backgrounds were beautiful. With the first painting, you might try neutralizing the blues in the lake and the greens touching the deer to make the deer stand out more. They are both lovely.
This painting seems to need a mystical fairytale ...just beautiful!
This background really makes the deer the focus. Love the fruit.
Thank you Angela! 🧡
That tree is absolutely beautiful. It's where my eye goes.

You are such an amazing artist. So amazing, in fact, that some of us are intimidated. I think, I’ll never be able to do that.
